Thanks guys for your recommendations for the next Secret Supper! It was fab to see so many of you asking for a repeat of previous themes- breakfast was a hot favourite for an encore! In the end I have been convinced by 3 people suggesting for Mexican and so am bringing to you, Inspired by… Botanas! Translating to ‘snacks’, the Mexican version of tapas, I look forward to devising a menu different to the previous Mexican theme. Following spending hours researching last month’s menu on all social media channels, my feed is nearly entirely food related (please let me know if you have a significant life event that I miss as a result). This food feed has introduced me to concepts I have not seen before which has given the inspiration for the next Secret Supper. May’s Secret Supper is Inspired by…Boodle Fight!

Do you know what this is? Have you heard of it before? I hadn’t a clue until a couple of days ago when I watched some wannabe influencer vlog attending one and I felt compelled to research more.

A Boodle Fight is a Filipino tradition where food is served on top of banana leaves in the middle of a long table, traditionally eaten by the military when plates were not easy to transport. You are expected to eat with your hands, called kamayan (bear hand eating). A boodle fight typically consists of a pile of rice topped with meat, fishand veg cooked in various ways with salad, fruit, dips and sauces on the side, and bowls of water for cleaning your fingers. Secret Supper menu is going to consist of all of these boodle fight components - Filipino style small dishes with a variety of flavours. It’s then up to you whether you serve traditionally or opt for crockery and cutlery (you can buy banana leaves online). This menu is definitely one that can be enjoyed in a group!

This tiny little morsel was one of the big hits from this week’s Gen Z Secret Supper. Dates, stuffed with peanut butter and dipped in chocolate. Tastes just like a snickers! 😋 The whole menu was devised from short online recipe videos, now my feed is full of them making me hungry every time I look on social media! Next Secret Supper is 13th May and is actually going to be based on a something I discovered very recently on social media. Keep your peeled out to see what’s in store!

Next month’s Supper a bit of a back story to my choice…

Later this year my daughters and friends are taking on a challenge in support of Young Minds- a children and young persons mental health charity. They have called it the 5,4,3,2,1 challenge- 5 friends, 4 hills, 3 days, 2 nights, 1 goal. They are walking up Wrekin, Ragleth, Caradoc and Longmynd over 3 days, camping in between, hoping to raise £543.21 for their chosen charity. I am so proud of their desire to do something to support other young people and also of their skills in planning this challenge! So, with this in mind, I want to also support their efforts and have decided that Secret Supper March 2023 will be inspired by… Generation Z!

Zed? Zee? Zoomers? The generation born between 1997 and 2012 which includes my girls and many of the people supported by Young Minds. The menu is going to be made up of dishes found on short video social media, I am replacing recipe books for TikTok and IG Reels, and tentatively sharing some of the creative responsibility of menu writing to the girls.

If you have never tried baked feta then why the heck not?! It’s such an easy but delicious dish, and was part of last weekends Moroccan Secret Supper topped with sundried tomatoes and chilli. Sweet, salty, savoury, delicious!

Saturday 11th February is the next Secret Supper and is going to be inspired by… Morocco! The second ever secret supper was inspired by The East, and included some Moroccan style dishes, however being one of my favourite cuisines there is plenty more recipes to fill a menu of entirely Moroccan dishes. If you have never had this type of food before you can expect fresh herbs, fragrant spices, rich, sweet, savoury deliciousness with some similarities to both Mediterranean and Arabic cuisines. I was delighted to have the opportunity to prepare the food for Tori’s baby shower this weekend. I have had the pleasure of cooking for this beautiful family in their stunning homes at a number of events over the last 18months, this time was in newly renovated kitchen of dreams. I think I would happily swap my entire house for the kitchen alone.

Kicking off 2023 by taking it waaaay back. January’s Secret Supper will be inspired by… Retro. Set to be a hot culinary trend next year, childhood flavours and nostalgic recipes will be making their way to menus in 2023. I am planning to take you on a delicious journey down memory lane. Expect more finesse than a findus crisp pancake but just as much reminiscence. A Mumbai inspired menu to round off the second full year of somehow managed to create a menu of small sharing dishes based on a new theme. Now it’s time to tell you what I have in store for next year… due to popular demand for some advanced warning on dates I have set a schedule for the whole year. November’s Secret Supper is likely to be the last one of 2022, with December looking full already. I bring to you Inspired by… Mumbai!

Mumbai is the capital of street food with an endless variety of market sellers pitching up in the busiest parts of the city offering delicious snacks to be eaten at all times of the day, by all types of people regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, religion or class. Eaten by the roadside with many of these ‘cheap’ dishes considered better than in the restaurants. There are a couple of Mumbai inspired dishes that are firmly in my repertoire when I am thinking of making street food, which I can’t wait to share with you all.

One motivation behind Secret Supper was to offer something different to what can be easily obtained from local takeaways, and this month is no different. Although undoubtedly recognisable as Indian, I hope to bring to you new flavours and new favourites.

It’s soup season! My Mum has fully embarked on daily soup making, turning up with her latest creation in a pan for us to try every couple of days - I think I will eventually have all of her pans in my kitchen (not sure why she doesn’t use a jar or some Tupperware!) Inspired, this was last nights dinner - chicken & sweetcorn noodle soup. My girls usually disagree whether to order chicken & sweetcorn soup or chicken noodle soup when choosing a takeaway so I made both in one. Empty dishes and full stomachs all round! What’s your favourite soup?

Time to tell you the theme for October's Secret Supper, it’s one that I have been thinking about doing for ages and now is the time. October Secret Supper will be inspired by... Cicchetti!

The Italian answer to Tapas - small, delicious plates of food typically eaten in a Bacaro (bar) alongside a small glass of wine- it fits the Secret Supper concept perfectly,. Traditionally Cicchetti is dishes that can be eaten with hands or cocktail sticks, so no cutlery is required. The list of dishes at the moment stands at well over the 10-12 that make the final menu, I can already see it is going to be a tough job whittling it down!

Brunch Secret Supper last weekend. It was brilliant to be able to enjoy this with our wonderful friends who just happened to be visiting at the right weekend. For once I remembered to take some photos, though I did miss the homemade bagels which are just incredible- I don’t think I will ever buy them again when they taste so good homemade! July 2022 Secret Supper is on Saturday 16th and is going to be inspired by… South Africa. Only 9 days away and booking is open now. In my day job I have some awesome colleagues who are interested and supportive of my sideline business. This includes my South African friend who is always interested to hear what I have been cooking and has been telling me all about her favourite foods from her home and has leant me a recipe book full of delicious ideas that I can’t wait to share with you all. I couldn’t quite decide which theme to do next month, I have several half written menus but no firm plans on which order to use them so I put a poll for you to decide and with 60% the consensus was ‘Great to be eaten al fresco’. June 2022 will be inspired by… Festival. Think street food, campfire type vibes. Pitch a tent in your garden, hook up some lights and get the playlist on to set you in the mood for a feastival! This month’s supper will be for collection on Friday 24th June but can be eaten any time over that weekend! Spaces are limited and go on sale at the slightly early time of 17.00 tomorrow. Do you love cheese? I do, so much so that I have decided to base an entire Secret Supper around it. I reckon that at any one time we have at least 5 types of cheese in the fridge and probably have some cheese in some meal every day! Throwback to a Secret Supper from last Spring. Sometimes I choose theme that might not have an obvious connection to food and keep my fingers crossed that people will have faith in me and will embrace the surprise of the menu. March 21 was Inspired by… Motown. I loved creating the menu which was a mixture of foods that were popular in the 60s and 70s as well as dishes from Detroit, the home of Motown. When I look back at the photos there are some things I have forgotten I made so it’s great to look back and remind myself. This menu included Maple Butter Cornbread, a take on ‘cheese and pineapple’- halloumi fries with a mango salsa, a Coronation chicken curry and meatloaf! This was one of the most popular themes of last year and definitely had the easiest accompanying playlist I have ever created! The next Secret Supper is Saturday 9th April and will be inspired by… Levant. The Levant is a geographical area in the East originally described as ‘Mediterranean lands east of Italy’ and includes countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Cyprus, Eygpt, Palestine and Jordan. Levantine cuisine has a 10000year history beginning with the development of agriculture followed by the first diners, dinner table settings and menu, dishes include heaps of fresh herbs and spices, flat breads, dips, grilled vegetables, skewered meat and the distinctive taste of sumac. I will have no problem whatsoever filling a Secret Supper menu! Levantine cuisine is said to be one of the most popular food trends of 2022 and I can understand why! Saturday 12th March 2022 Secret Supper Inspired by… Smokehouse. Ok, so firstly I need to disclose this was not entirely my idea and credit should go to for this being her suggestion (thank you Emily!) I have a couple of dishes that I have wanted to include in Secret Supper for some time now but I wasn’t quite sure where they would fit so was excited to see Emily’s response to my story. As soon as I saw this I began writing the menu straight away, it currently stands at around 20 dishes that somehow I will need to streamline! You can expect a feast of American influenced BBQ style deliciousness, with a dessert that a friend once described as the ‘best thing I have ever tasted’. Tonight I made a Nacho Bar for a surprise party a great way to feed a crowd something slightly different to standard buffet. Nachos, chilli, pulled pork, bbq chicken, nacho cheese (just like the cinema!) and all the toppings! Happy Birthday ! Hope you enjoy the rest of your celebrations! thanks for having me!

Bonjour! February’s Secret Supper is Saturday 12th which is the weekend closest to Valentines Day so what better theme than inspired by... France! A country world famous for it's interesting culinary history, diverse flavours and strong traditions, there are so many dishes to choose from. Taking inspiration from fine dining to foods considered 'peasant' dishes and everything in between, this supper aims to make you feel as though you are transported straight to the top of the Eiffel Tower, wearing a beret with a string of garlic round your neck! The menu will be the same familiar Secret Supper arrangement of dishes designed to share with people you love! Whether that is a partner, a pal or a parent, you can enjoy dinner for 2 (or 3,4,5…however many you like!). Secret Supper January 2022 Inspired by… Plants. Last night’s Secret Supper was a celebration of all things plant based, I tried to avoid any processed plant based meat substitutes in order to really showcase what can be made with veg, fruit, herbs and pulses alone. SS menus are always a mixture of hot and cold dishes, often with something to dip, something picky, and something to nibble on as the first few items which this month were: Pitta chips with smoked sea salt, coriander and lemon olives, basil pesto houmous and muhummara. This was followed by quinoa, beetroot & mint salad, sweet corn & oregano fritters, celeriac with date bbq sauce, tumeric roasted cauliflower with pink onions, charred harrisa aubergine, garlic & chilli baked beans. Dessert was chai poached pears with a vanilla vegan yoghurt and ginger nut crumb. I was nervous about this theme to begin with, as it was a bit out of my comfort zone to make an entirely vegan menu but was delighted with the end result, and the feedback has been brilliant! Next month’s supper is on Saturday 12th February- Valentine’s Weekend. I am expecting this to be popular so booking is opening early- the theme will be released TONIGHT with booking opening tomorrow at 19.00. Spaces are limited! 😍🥰
