Buddleja
Common name: Butterfly bush

Known as the butterfly bush, the fragrant flowers of buddleja are a favourite nectar source for butterflies. These undemanding, mainly deciduous shrubs, deserve a place in every garden with their spectacular displays of blooms and honey scent. Some selections are compact and can be grown in containers.

Nigella damascena "love in a mist"
is an annual garden flowering plant, belonging to the buttercup family Ranunculaceae.
Slender, upright plants carry bright-green feathery foliage and single or double white, pink, blue or violet flowers. Each flower is surrounded by a ‘ruff’ of finely dissected wispy leaves which are followed by inflated seed heads.
Seed heads are great for drying and using in dried floral designs

Phlox paniculata
Historically, phlox has symbolized unity and harmony. Phlox plants are herbaceous and can be annuals or perennials. The plants usually have oval or linear leaves. The tubular flowers have five flaring lobes and are often borne in dense masses. The flowers of many species are fragrant and range in colour from white to pale blue, purple, pink, and red. Ideal for planting at the back of a border as Phlox can get up 5feet tall.

Rudbeckias flower between late summer and autumn
Thrives in sun

Single flowered rudbeckia are good for pollinators
Seedheads are attractive in winter

Fuchsia.
In fact, fuchsias are tender perennials. This means that you can grow these plants outside if you live in a very warm climate and they will come back year after year. However, in many chillier climates, gardeners grow fuchsias as annuals, planted outside after all risk of frost is passed.
Fuchsia flowers always remind be of tiny little ballerinas 🥰

Cardoon cynara
Cardoons were a common vegetable in Persian, Roman, and Greek cuisine and maintained a presence in European cooking through the Middle Ages. In the Victorian Era, the stalks were a favorite vegetable among the English upper class.
Cardoons are thorny plants related to thistles (and close cousins of artichokes.). Don’t be deterred by the spines — this daisy family member’s bark is worse than its bite, and its stems are delicious.
I love growing this in the garden such a stunning plant 🪴

Lily Symbolism
Lilies have different meanings throughout different cultures, but generally, these amazing blooms represent grace, royalty, beauty, and rebirth. As with other flowers, meaning change based on color so when choosing lilies to gift someone, keep the below guidelines in mind.
White lilies represent purity, virtue, and innocence.
Pink lilies represent abundance and prosperity.
Red lilies represent love and passion
Orange lilies represent confident, wealth, and pride
Yellow lilies represent joy, thankfulness, and good health.
Lilies are a flowering plant that grow from bulbs.
“True Lilies” belong to the genus Lilium.
When the flowers bloom, they are large, colorful, and often fragrant.
True Lilies all have 6 petals and 6 stamens with anthers (oblong pods that contain pollen).
Unfortunately lilies are poisonous to cats.

"Sweet peas" Lathyrus odoratus.
Sweet peas are not actually peas, but colorful flowering plants with a sweet fragrance, symbolizing joy and romance. They are easy to grow and attract butterflies, adding elegance to any garden.

Native flower from Mexico. Cosmos means "universe in balance" due to the evenly placed and orderly petals. They are brilliant pollinators.

Helianthus aka Sunflowers...
The name sunflower comes from the Greek helios "sun" and anthos "flower." Sunflower got its name because the flowers turn toward the sun.
Sunflowers come in an amazing variety of sizes and colours. On one end, some varieties grow as tall as 15 feet, with flower heads larger than a foot in diameter. On the other, smaller varieties are only 1-2 feet tall. In the middle are medium-height varieties that stand 5-6 feet tall with heads 8-10 inches across.🌻🌻🌻

Callas lilies
Best I've grown this year. I love these unique shaped flowers. Calla means beauty in Greek.

Lupins.... beautiful multi coloured spikes of blooms. Pollinators love the lupin. They are great plants for fixing nitrogen in the soil. Lupins symbolise Imagnation and creativity. 💓

Alcea rosea "Hollyhocks"
These beautiful flowers are part of my plan for our "cottage garden" next year. Seedlings are growing nicely. Interesting facts about this stunning plant...
They can grow to 9feet tall.
Butterflies love Hollyhocks
It is believed that growing hollyhocks in the garden would bring blessings of prosperity and good fortune to the household. So fingers crossed our seedling reach for the sun next year ❤️

Some fun facts about hydrangeas
1. Hydrangea means "water vessel" in Greek.
2. Hydrangea don't have petals the heads are made up of a cluster of bracts. These bracts also have the ability to soak up water.
3. Hydrangeas have no fragrance.
4. Hydrangea colours are determined by the pH of soil they grow in
Blue below 5.5 pH
Purple 5.5/6.5 pH
White 6/6.2 pH
Pink over 7pH
Green is neutral pH
It can be quite normal for 1 Hydrangea bush to have a variety of colours due to the change of the pH in the soil it's growing in.

5. Hydrangea colour meanings
Blue = apology, gratitude, understanding
Purple = pride, royalty, understanding
White = vanity, purity, grace
Pink = romance, true feelings, sincere emotions.
Green = good fortune, health, prosperity, rebirth.
Hydrangea flower heads dry very well.
