An interesting evening at Sidcup J C yesterday with John Ellmer's SWISH. The band should have included Sarah Spencer in addition on reeds but unfortunately she was indisposed. John Ellmer didn't disappoint, bringing with him a full array of reed instruments - Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Soprano Sax, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax & Baritone Sax. George Webb is regarded as the 'Father' of the revival of Traditional New Orleans Jazz in the UK. Every year, about the date of his birth (8th October 1917), we honour the memory of George Webb and his band the Dixielanders with existing musicians emulating the style and enthusiasm of the George Webb Dixielanders of 1949.
