An interesting evening at Sidcup J C yesterday with John Ellmer's SWISH. The band should have included Sarah Spencer in addition on reeds but unfortunately she was indisposed. John Ellmer didn't disappoint, bringing with him a full array of reed instruments - Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Soprano Sax, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax & Baritone Sax. Listen to the multi-talented Mr. Ellmer on Alto Sax and vocal with this version of LOUISIAN-I-A, with COLIN GRAHAM - Trombone & Valve Trombone, JOHN STUART - Banjo & Guitar, MURRAY SALMON - Bass, ROD BROWN - Drums.

George Webb is regarded as the 'Father' of the revival of Traditional New Orleans Jazz in the UK. Every year, about the date of his birth (8th October 1917), we honour the memory of George Webb and his band the Dixielanders with existing musicians emulating the style and enthusiasm of the George Webb Dixielanders of 1949. We had a truley excellent evening with the latter day Dixielanders: - PETE LEONARD (Leader) - Cornet, PETE RUDEFORTH - Trumpet, ROB PEARCE - Trombone, SARAH SPENCER - Clarinet & Soprano Sax, JOHN STUART - Banjo, CHRIS NEWMAN - Piano, MARC EASENER - Sousa, JOHN ELLMER - Drums. Listen to their terrific rendition of 'Weary Blues'.

George Webb is universally acknowledged to be the 'Father' of the postwar traditional jazz revival in Britain, serving as an inspiration to, and frequent band member with, the trumpeter Humphrey Lyttelton. The movement George created, which grew steadily in the late 1940s, led directly to the "trad boom" of the late 1950s and early 1960s in which he also played a leading part, first as pianist and bandleader and later as agent and promoter.
Each year, close to his birth date (8th October 1917), Sidcup Jazz Club pays homage to the man and his music by getting together some of todays jazz musicians to replicate the style and enthusiasm of The Dixielanders of the 1940's, consisting of an eight piece band of Clarinet, Trombone, two Trumpets, Banjo, Sousaphone, Drums and of course Piano. Always guaranteed to be a swinging night. We shall look forward to seeing you.

A big thank you to all those that attended or sent donations to join with friends and family at last Thursday's 'Tribute of Life' for Chris 'Thumper' Thompson. The Golden Eagle Jazz band played to their usual high standard, with some of Kevin's "True Stories", making it a very happy and joyful occaision.

I am pleased to announce that together we raised the magnificent sum of £1,000 which will be donated to Cancer Research UK in Chris' name.

Well done everybody.
