Copied from my friend Spencer over at Elliott's Bouncy Castle Hire. A few years ago my son was diagnosed with Leaukemia when he had just turned 3 years old. After almost 4 years of treatment he rang the bell and is now a healthy young boy.
Most of his treatment was administered by Tiger Ward, which is the child cancer ward at Queen Elizabeth hospital - The doctors and nurses on that ward are absolute walking angels in human form. Without them, my son would have perished. I owe them my life and will forever be in their debt.
The thing is, my son isn't the only child to be diagnosed with cancer and he wont be the last. The ward is full of incredible nurses and doctors, but there is always something that can be done to help improve the situation for the patients.
Simple things like high speed internet access so the child can stream netflix instead of a collection of DVD's, toys for the play-room, craft bits etc.
Quite often the patients are so ill and vulnerable they aren't allowed to leave the room and need to be isolated - With no access to the play room - So something like a tablet with internet helps breaks their isolation and tedium.
We're hosting a great big outdoor inflatable day on August 6th on the school field at Welling School - With 100% of the money raised going to Tiger Ward - The child cancer ward at QE.
The venue is set, the port-a-loos are booked, catering is arranged, the companies are commited, the generators are lined up and everything is set.
What we really need is people to buy the tickets and attend.
Every single pound raised is going directly to Tiger Ward - The money will help to make patients lives that little bit more comfortable, it will help make their rooms brighter, modernise the play room, help give them something during what I can personally attest is the darkest time of their lives.
I cannot really articulate or demonstrate through words what it meant to my son to just be able to watch Paw Patrol or the cartoon Hulk on a tablet - We was lucky, we could afford to buy an iPad and streamed it from our mobile for him, but other children and families can't. Sadly, child cancer often means that you have to choose between your job and working or being their for your child - Money is a constant worry and you can't afford things.
We rely on being allowed to post adverts in Facebook groups which now come with a lot of restrictions and all posts being declined. Facebook also now has restrictions on how many people can see business page posts so we rely on people sharing and getting behind the event, dropping notes in their whatsapp groups to other parents, texting their sister and asking if they want to come with their nieces/nephews - It's this personal ground approach that helps get tickets sold.
I am begging you, if you are reading this - Please help make this event a success and get as many tickets sold as possible.
We promise we wont over-crowd the event, their is a limit on the ticket sales and it's session based, so we will never be over-whelmed - Even if we do hit the limit, we have offers from more bouncy castle companies and can always add more!
It's going to be a great day for Bexley - The largest outdoor inflatable day in the UK. You won't be able to see an event like this ever again and it's right on our doorstep. What's even better though is that while having fun and a great time, you will be helping to make a real, genuine difference to local children with cancer.
I am on my knees asking you to buy a ticket, to ask your brother to buy a ticket and your best friend, to ask your friends to come with their children and school-gate mum friends. If you're on a PTA to put a post on your page, to help in any way that you can think - Post about it in groups, make it a group booking trip for your karate club or dance group - Anything! Please, please help.
