Sittingbourne Rugby Clubs sixth Player Sponsorship!

Sittingbourne Rugby Club is excited to announce our Sixth sponsored player of the season! Luc Jeffery

Entering the club in a pushchair as a baby, Luc was always destined to play for SRUFC. After being sidelined for years through injury as his senior rugby career began and running rugby’s best instagram account… (this one) He seems to have put those injuries behind him and has become a regular first team starter in our back row.

We would like to say thank you to Smart CI Group Limited. For sponsoring our player and their continued support, hopefully we can continue to show our support to both company ( ) and player ( ) on and off the field.

Beckenham and Barbarians Day.

Both teams this weekend fell short to quality opposition.

SRUFC 1XV faced Beckenham 2XV at home this weekend. With the game being played at a physically draining pace, both sides went at each other for the full 80 minute affair. Bourne having the more of the possession throughout the contest initially went behind but managed to claw back a lead at the HT leading 13-8. But Beckenham showed good finishing skills with some nice maul work scoring early doors in the second half. After which Bourne found themselves in the oppositions 22 from extended periods but failed to convert. Beckenham took their chances in the second half ending our winning streak and handing us a home loss of 13-27.

SRUFC 2XV face league leaders Ashford Babarians in a physical matchup our boys. The scoreline swayed between both sides in the first half with baba’s leading 12-7 come HT. The match was then turned on its head after a crazy 5 minutes which resulted in Bourne seeing 2 yellow cards and a sending off from the ref. Down to 12 Bourne defended valiantly not conceding a single point in this period. Until the 13th man came back on in which Bourne’s 2XV would go on to score twice taking the lead. Reinforced with the 14th man back on the pitch baba’s showed why they deserve to be top of the league by fighting back. Ultimately at penalty slotted through the posts by Baba’s kicker on the final play of the game would seal the win for the home side, having again beaten our last on the final whistle. The game needed in an away loss of 24-21.

Beckenham, Baba’s or Bourne?

Please find below your 1XV line up to face promotion rival 2XV this weekend and your 2XV line up to face league leader

The 1XV are looking to solidify their grip on second place but in front of them is a mammoth task. Beckenham 2XV got the better of us at Balmoral Ave and have the most points in the league. Being the leaders ‘highest home points’ and second in ‘highest away points’. But SRUFC up The Grove is no easy task for any opposition, having rectified all of their previous losses earlier in the season can the lads do it again on Saturday?

1XV fixture will kick off at 12:00PM

The 2XV travel away to tough competitors and friends Ashford Babarians. Leading the league and having only lost twice they look set for promotion. With such a tight game played last time out between these two sides SRUFC 2XV will be looking to get their revenge! Fielding a strong side with a good mix of experience and youth can the lads get this win over the line?

Promotion Battle and Revenge Time!

Please find below the fixtures for your 1XV and 2XV this weekend!

The 1XV will take on 2XV who gave Sittingbourne one of their hardest tests last time out and walked away with a decisive victory. The lads will be looking to make things right and again with Bourne at home you never know what’s going to happen! With one point between 2nd, 3rd and 4th it is all to play for!

MUST READ,
The 1XV kick off has been changed to 12pm due to Beckenham 2’s captain Graham Murray’s passing earlier in the week. Sittingbourne Rugby Club will accommodate Beckenham in any way possible to make things as smooth as they can be in these hard times for the club.

The 2XV face who last time out took the win with a try in the last play of the game. Table leaders, away from home and having beaten our 2XV in such fine margins last time. The conditions couldn’t be better for our lads to cause the upset of the season! Can they do it?

Weekend Winners!

Both SRUFC 1XV and 2XV came out on top this weekend against their opposition!

The 1XV headed away to Tunbridge Wells 2XV as side we were yet to beat in the last couple of seasons. Playing against a good outfit Bourne put in one hell of a shift with 3 disallowed try’s in the first half and 4 yellow cards throughout the match it looked desperate at times, but Bourne grit and desire to win this match up shone through with a full 18 man performance required to in the end just edge past Wells. We won the game 12-19 and currently sit in second place in the league.

The 2XV replicated if not bettered the scoreline of when they last met Canterbury Rugby 4XV. With a decisive 59-0 victory at home showing some great attacking skill and good defensive work rate to keep the opposition from getting a single point. Dominant for the full 80 minute matchup it was only ever going to end one way! Thank you to everyone who also stepped up with late notice to help the side out!

1XV Match-day 16 and 2XV Match-day 12 Squads!

Please find below your 1XV squad to face 2XV and your 2XV squad to face 4XV.

The 1XV are away to Tunbridge Wells 2XV this weekend as mentioned before this is all to play for! With a feeling that Bourne should have won the last encounter at home and only losing by a point in the last couple of minutes the lads are ready to get their revenge. Can they make it a nice 8 wins consecutively this weekend? We think so!

The 2XV are facing familiar foe in @ 4XV dominating the previous fixture the lads will be looking to better that, this time on home soil. Ready as always to put in a big shift to defend ‘The Grove’ teams do not come here and win easily, every point must be hard earned when any SRUFC team plays at home!

So if you’re travelling with the 1XV or staying closer to home with the 2XV be sure to bring your cheering voices to support the guys on the pitch!

Tough Tests Ahead and Finding Form.

This weekend sees the 1XV take on 2XV away, while the 2XV host 4XV.

This weekend sees the 1XV face a team they haven’t beaten so far in the last couple seasons in Tunbridge Wells. But with 3 points separating 4th and 2nd place and with this being both sides ‘game in hand’ over 3rd this is all to play for! With the boys in red hot form this very much last time out has the potential to be the game of the season! With the winner guaranteeing that 2nd place spot… until next weekend at least.

The 2XV face Canterbury 4XV and as always you never know who’s going to turn up and what to expect! Last time out the boys put in a stellar 2nd half performance with a 45 point second half and 60 point overall points tally. The lads will be looking to find some new year form and keep pushing for those ever important top two spots!

Tight Affair!

This weekend saw Sittingbourne 2XV face 2XV.

It wasn’t quite Bourne’s 2XV weekend. As very good game was played with good skill on display from both sides. Bourne the more physical while Maidstone the slightly quicker. Both sides had a close matched skill set and the halftime scoreline showed that as it was tight the whole way through the affair but unfortunately Bourne did succumb to the faster Maidstone side. Ending the fixture 24-12.

However, a positive display from the lads considering this team hasn’t played since December! With plenty of games left SRUFC 2XV will be looking to take some names in the games to come up!

Next up for the 2XV is a big clash against Canterbury 4XV. A game that they were losing at halftime to only go and turn it around in fantastic fashion. Still living in the memory of all that played and watched that game, they can’t do it again can they?

Bourne’s 2XV Are Back!

Please find below your 2XV to face 2XV this weekend!

This is how SRUFC 2XV lineup for this weekend. Fielding a physically strong pack and fast exciting backline has become a regular occurrence for our 2XV this season and this weekend is no different!

Combining both the experience and know how of some of the seasoned members of the side with the eagerness and hunger of our young players makes for an always exciting watch.

Be sure not to miss it this Saturday away at Maidstone rugby club! As always let’s get a big Sittingbourne Sideline down to support our lads this weekend!

Long Time Coming!

Only the one game this weekend and Finally we get to see our 2XV in action against 2XV.

After multiple called off games our last 2XV game was back in December! But the 2XV are back and ready to show their skills down at local rivals Maidstone 2XV.

With a few games in hand over teams the 2XV are still in this promotion race and a win against a solid Maidstone side this weekend would prove why! So let’s get behind the lads and take the short trip over Detling Hill to show that Bourne Support!

Bourne Avenge Past Mistakes!

It was a good day at the office this Saturday when SRUFC 1XV faced a tough

Sittingbourne came out on top this time at home and made amends for the result earlier in the season.

Sittingbourne started strong after knocking up a 20 point lead in the first twenty five minutes, it looked like Bourne were onto a BP before the first half however Old G’s stood strong.

Going into the second half Old G’s came out well. Bourne were knocking at the door for the majority of the half, having had the lion share of the possession Bourne changed the point of attack before a ball was intercepted on Old G’s five meter line in which their winger ran the length of the pitch to score their only try of day which was nicely taken. Bourne needed that fourth try which came from the base of a ruck with our number 8 Leon Gomm picking up his Hat-trick and Bourne BP try. A yellow card for both sides saw the pitch open up and Bourne managed to get in a fifth try on the final play of the match up. With SRUFC winning 32-7.

Sittingbourne are wishing everyone at Old Gravesendians the best of luck with the rest of the season.

Inform Bourne or Haunting Old G’s?

Please find your SRUFC 1XV for this weekends fixture against

As mentioned in the previous post, Old G’s had a massive win against us earlier in the season at their place. However, as every team knows coming to Sittingbourne is a different story.

Hopefully the lads can keep their strong home record and reputation up and get a big win against a side who proves a thorn in our side every time we play them. Will the lads have a few new tricks up their sleeve to outfox this Old G’s side this time out? Or will Old G’s put in another stellar performance?

When we traveled to Old G’s it was a packed sideline for the home team with a good amount of traveling support from Bourne. But let’s better that and get a huge crowd supporting the lads this weekend to see them over the line and back into 2nd place.

Old G’s Grudge!

The rugby drought come to an end, with the six nations just around the corner you want to see some of the highest quality of rugby… that’s why this weekend sees only the 1XV in action against a strong

With Old G’s deconstructing Sittingbourne last time out and throwing us back up the M2, this match now has double the pressure for our lads! Vying to keep a promotion spot and self pride on the line this is not one to be missed!

Bourne will be looking to inflict a scoreline similar to what was inflicted upon us in the return fixture and with the boys in red hot form I can’t see why we couldn’t do it!

Want to find out what happens? 2PM Saturday up The Grove.

Unfortunately the Vets game tomorrow has been cancelled due to the opposition pulling out; this puts us through to the finals in April. Please look out for future announcements!

Bourne Bounce Back!

SRUFC 1XV faced a tough, hard hitting this Saturday.

After Bourne took the lead with a quick three points from kick off, Hasting’s responded scoring two quick fire tries in the first half hour of the match. Being 12-3 down and not finding a great flow Bourne looked to be in for a long away day. Untill a great kick played over the top was chased perfectly and with a nice support and exchange of hands Bourne crashed over the line, adding a conversion and another penalty to the score resulting in us being 12-13 up going into the second half.

The second half was an even stale mate for large parts of the game. Bourne broke over the line first with a few phases off of a dominant scrum leading to us scoring in the corner which was also expertly converted. Another penalty slotted would see Bourne’s final point tally for the match, however Hastings scored another to add their third and final try of the afternoon to get a LBP. Full time away at Hastings ended in a 17-23 victory for SRUFC and a messy coach trip home!

Good luck to Hastings for the rest of the season.

Thank you to everyone who made the journey down the coast and even though it looked bleak at points the lads are happy to have not let you down.
