It's still too early to start seed sowing at the moment because of the low light levels, but there is one seed you can start right now - Sweet Peas - which are my absolute favourite! They're very easy to grow. Place the seeds between damp kitchen roll in a container with a lid for a few days (I use an old takeaway pot) until they start to sprout. Once they've sprouted put into 9cm pots of compost. I put 1 seed in each corner. Keep on a window sill (if you don't have a greenhouse or other light space to use). Within a week or so they'll begin growing for you. What's not to love! 🌸

The sun was out this morning! The main plot is looking organised and tidy and the seedlings in the polytunnel are also looking pretty good. Why does a bit of sun always make everything feel better? It's supposed to be sunny again tomorrow so am looking forward to making the most of getting back outside. Hope everyone is having a good week. 🌸

Today I thought I'd post a picture of our flower plot on another cold, grey January day! Sometimes it's hard to remember how beautiful the plot will look when the flowers are blooming. Still, we carry on weeding, tidying and mulching in the hope of all the flowers to come. January is our month for planning, nurturing the soil and preparing for the season ahead. The flowers will be here before we know it. 🌸

If you choose us for your wedding flowers then we also offer the unique experience of Pick Your Own wedding flowers. Perfect for DIY weddings or if you want to create part of the wedding floristry yourselves. If your wedding is between May and October, our flower field can be exclusively yours for a few hours. You are welcome to bring along friends and family to share in the experience. You can even, as this lovely couple did, invite your wedding photographer to take wonderful lasting memories of the day. We're booking for May-October 2026 so please message or call if this is something you'd like to discuss further. Thank you Debbie 🌸

This week on the flower farm we have been dodging the showers, wrestling with the almost constant windy days and watching our flowers in the polytunnel for the exciting first buds which hold the promise of things to come. So far this week we've spotted: our first stocks budding up, our first phacelia and calendula flowers and finally - our favourites - the first sweet pea buds. Beautiful bunches of flowers are just around the corner! 🌸

Our apologies to customers who have tried to order gift bouquets recently. Our season has not quite started yet, so we thought it would help if we posted pictures of part of the plot and polytunnel so you can see how the growing is coming along. As you can see, it's all looking quite green and the plants are beginning to grow now but there are still very few flowers in sight. As soon as we have enough flowers for bouquets we will advertise here and on Instagram. In the meantime we're crossing our fingers that the rain will stop soon as we're underwater in places on the plot!🌸

Thank you to everyone who has already put their name down for our Flower Subscriptions. We have just 2 places left for this year's deliveries, so if you are still keen to start a flower subscription with us then please do get in touch. Deliveries are fortnightly, cost either £10 or £20 and there's never a problem if you don't always want your flowers, as we always contact you before hand to check. The flowers should be starting in a few weeks so not long now! Thank you 🌸

🌸FLOWER SUBSCRIPTIONS 🌸- The weather's warming up and in a few weeks time we'll be ready to start our Flower Subscriptions again. If you'd like beautiful, fresh flowers cut from our farm and delivered straight to your door then it's time to get in touch. Deliveries are fortnightly, on a Thursday, meaning you'll have perfect flowers for the weekend. There's no commitment either, as we check before every delivery in case for some reason you don't want flowers a particular week. Bunches are either £10 or £20 and being a subscriber, you will always get some extra stems that won't be in our shop bunches. If you'd like to try our flower subscriptions then please get in touch - either by Facebook or 07402 002001. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you 🌸

A massive thank you to all of our lovely customers who bought flowers from us over the Mothers Day weekend. We sold out of everything which was an amazing feeling and we really do appreciate everyone's support.
It's still so grey and wet outside at the moment and it's going to be a few more weeks at least until we can start cutting bucketfuls of our own lovely spring flowers, but in the meantime we're beginning to get ready for our Flower Subscriptions. These were very popular with local residents last year. We will give more details out next week about how to subscribe. Have a good week 🌸

We're now taking orders for Mothers Day flowers...
It's a little early for our own flowers, but thanks to the British growers in Cornwall and Lincolnshire we are able to offer fresh flower bouquets for Mothers Day. We're making bunches of beautiful spring flowers including double tulips, narcissi and alstroemeria plus foliage and p***y willow from our plot. Priced at £12.50 or £25, we have kept the same prices as last year. These will be available for collection from our shop all day on Friday 8th March or Saturday 9th March in the morning. Delivery on these days is also possible. We have a limited number of bunches available, so please message us on Facebook or call/message 07402 002001 to place your order. Thank you 🌸

This week, as there's now over 10 hours of daylight, it's time to start sowing our hardy annuals. (These are the tough flowers that can handle a bit of cold!). We'll sow a few different types every week over the next few months to ensure that we have a constant supply of flowers throughout the season. Once sown, we leave the trays in the polytunnel to germinate. Hardy annuals are the main work horse of our flower farm through the summer months and so getting them started now is very important. Hopefully they'll give us hundreds of beautiful flowers to harvest later this year. 🌸

Happy Valentines Day ... and as you can see there's not a red rose in sight here at Barnfield Blooms! This is the reality of being a British flower farmer - we do not have any home grown flowers available on February 14th. Instead, we have a flower plot full of the promise of the season to come. So we'll keep on with our weeding, sowing and tidying and wait for spring to arrive. Hopefully not too long now. 🌸

My lovely companion this week during quiet times out on the plot! Apparently, the robin is a symbol of good luck and happiness. I'm also one of the many people who love to believe that they are a messenger for lost loved ones. He's probably only there for the tiny worms and grubs I'm unearthing in the big clear up outside but I love it when he's around. Wishing you all good luck and happiness this week x🌸

This week we've been taking care of our autumn sown annuals that have been sitting in our poly tunnel all over the winter. It's tempting with these milder days to start thinking of planting them outside but you never know what weather February is going to give us! So for the time being we're watering and feeding and keeping them safely protected just in case. Not too long now though until the days start to get noticeably longer...spring is just around the corner! 🌸
