Sometimes we need to stop and realise what we have achieved.

I'm really proud that this is my third front cover shoot this year.

In fact, it's my third consecutive one with Your Devon & Cornwall Wedding 🧡

Thank you 😊 it's always lovely to be recognised for a good job. Obviously couldn't do it on my own and it's a reflection of the hard work of the fabulous suppliers and venues I work with; but nonetheless it's great to see a good few days work come to fruition.

WHO DO I TEND TO WORK WITH? //

Recently I was having a chat with one of my beloved past clients who happens to be a health coach.

It's so lovely to be able to have an in-depth chat with anyone about health - but to be able to have a half an hour convo about all things health with a previous happy client of mine is just so so satisfying!

In recent years I fell off the health wagon. Between a lot of trauma (before covid reared it's ugly head) and trying to concentrate on the business in between said trauma - I allowed myself to fall off, but now I am very much back on and un-doing all my bad habits (so watch this space)

I'm also likely AuDHD..so much of my last makes so much sense now. It has consumed me for a while, but now I carry on, inevitably creating strategies for success as I always have (hello masking and coping systems!)

You don't have to be a health coach to work with me - far from it - but a love of all things natural health, taking care of the planet, recycling and sustainability etc and you know we are going to be able to talk for hours on our "hyperfocus" 😂 and you will know I'm going to 'get' your Wedding styling 💜

I say this all the time - if I wasn't a Christian I would be a full on hippy! ha ha!

Happy Hour is a 1-hour, informal but valuable conversation with me about your wedding day and your plans.

TUESDAY TESTIMONIAL//

Now this is exciting!

I reached out to Merihan to see how she was doing, as I was writing up some copy for my new website, and I had really enjoyed running her wedding, and we had become quite close, right from her menu tasting, all the way through to her special day.

Well, I have a full testimonial coming later which I'll share but for now, here's a lovely word from one of my past clients during my time at a rather lovely small, luxury hotel.

Referring back to my post about being baptised into the Coptic Orthodox Church, what I didn't mention then is that I could speak a little bit of Arabic (shway shwaya) (Also, I'm rusty now, please don't test me lol)

Merihan and her family speak Arabic so as a surprise I got the words 'congratulations' or rather 'Alef Mabrook!' Piped in chocolate on the rim of hers and her new husband's desert plate.

I love thinking about ways I can go the extra mile for my clients.

I WAS THE FIRST IN MY FAMILY TO GO TO UNIVERSITY. (But def. not the last)

Although I fell in love with weddings at 16, and I went to uni to study event management it wasn't a straight path.

Whilst working in a hotel, I was also working at a fast food restaurant, and attending 6th form.

I didn't have much self-confidence growing up and didn't think I'd ever be much.

I'd been wondering what to do after 6th form, initially interested in pursuing dietetics or psychology, but was dissuaded because I wouldn't get the English or Maths GCSE's

At the time I was studying GNVQ, health & social care but apart from psychology/nutrition I hated it! I was disinterested and falling behind✌️

I decided to leave 6th form and work at the ff restaurant full time.

Then something amazing happened.

I started doing well in my job and was promoted to floor manager within in a year, passing the exams. 💃

I started to believe in myself!

I WAS MORE CAPABLE THAN I WAS GIVING MYSELF CREDIT FOR! 💪

Boom! 💥 Just like that I decided I would go back to college.

I considered two courses: Hospitality & Catering and Leisure & Tourism.

Initially I was leaning towards hospitality and catering. That is, until one of my friends said to me:

"Jenny, I just can't imagine you cutting up dead fish" 🐟☠️

At that time she was right! I didn't have much of a seasoned palete; I wasn't well travelled and open to all that I am now!

For that reason I chose the Leisure & Tourism option! (Lol)

I enjoyed my GNVQ so much, I got a distinction within the 1st year and could only pass the second year!

Such a contrast to school where I was failing and nearly expelled!

It was during our event management module that I would co-organise our end of year prom on a riverboat in London.

After our successful prom I filled out my UCAS personal statement, applied for 6 uni's and was accepted into my two first choice!

Within 5 months I packed my bags, and moved to the Big Smoke to begin my new life as a Uni student.

Wedding Rant of the day

"X amount of guests have cancelled just two weeks before my special day"

Ok it is annoying and even hurtful. You think you've done something wrong perhaps?

Nope nope nope.

The majority of these people WANT to be with you and celebrating, but again.

LIFE HAPPENS.

I've been in the wedding industry for over 20 years and I'll tell you now that a few people from your guest list are going to have things that come up last minute which mean they can't unfortunately prioritise your wedding.

It sucks, but ultimately your wedding is not their main priority in their life.

Harsh?

Truth!

My loves, I need you to get over the fact that your priorities are not everyone's priorities.

When you realise this you'll be able to get excited about your special day, but without holding others to the exceptionally high expectations you're holding for yourself!

WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE? //

🌸 7 years of education up to masters level IN EVENT MANAGEMENT, CATERING AND HOSPITALITY
🌸 1 BIIAB retail license to sell alcohol & up to 50 Temporary event notices a year
🌸 22+ years experience in weddings, events, hospitality and catering
🌸 I personally ran 70 weddings in one year (many Friday, Saturday, and Sunday weddings, mostly between March to October) and that's without the added conferences & other celebrations in between! I've probably run close to 500 in my lifetime in a hotel setting.
🌸 Assistant manager of a conference and banqueting department in a 5* Hotel Venue that turned over £2million that year alone, (2011) never mind the rest of the hotel.
🌸 Logistics queen: overseeing supervisors to run events in 12 rooms over 3 floors, day in and day out sometimes with multiple room turn-arounds
🌸 The most expensive wedding I personally ran: £120,000 (Just for the hotel element, back in 2010)
🌸 Assistant Coordinator for a year for a highly respected luxury London Wedding Planner across multiple weddings.
🌸 2 years as the director of an outside catering business at just 23 years old, turning over £250,000
🌸 Wedding operations manager at a boutique hotel in Essex
🌸 Business insurance held
🌸 Customer CRM system to streamline my customer process and give you, my client that VIP feel from the outset

REAL WEDDINGS | MARK & JULIA //

Mark and Jules just celebrated their Paper anniversary and I thought I'd share a small selection of their day (with permission)

This was such a beautiful day and one with memories that I'll treasure forever.

What can I tell you about it?

It started off with a beautiful faith filled ceremony in St Peter's church in Brighton.

Mark's Dad is a minister and got to marry his son (queue tears) and there were some beautiful readings and prayers.

The couple travelled to their reception venue in a vintage VW Camper and throughout the day there was

A LOT of dancing!! 💃💃💃

Anyone who's ever attended a Middle Eastern wedding will know what I'm talking about, lol.

What I loved about this particular wedding was the beautiful fusion of English and Sudanese Cultures, especially with Mark and Julia's parents fully embracing each others wedding traditions 💜🥺

Due to Covid, many family and friends couldn't attend from abroad, and I had a hand in secretly organising a handful of pre-recorded video speeches from loved ones, along with Mark's Best man's speech.

There was not a dry eye in the house! 🥰😭

They say never to get too emotionally involved with your clients but it's hard not to when they're so lovely.

Jules and Mark, I love you guys and I wish you every blessing and joy for many years to come.
