Friday is Winter Wonderland in South Molton - Starting around 5pm.

Most of the stalls will be in the Pannier Market with other activities outside in the main street, which will be traffic free. There is also late night shopping, with some shops staying open until 9pm.

Food and drink stalls, Christmas gifts, children’s workshops in the Pannier Market. There will also be live music outside on the stage and fairground rides.

This event is for all the family, young or old. Entry is free so come along and soak in the atmosphere.

Mole Valley Farmers have organised a Polar Express which will take people to and from their store to the centre of South Molton. Mole Valley Farmers will stay open until 8pm and will also have a Santa’s Grotto.

Winter Wonderland update - Children's Workshop

The Hele Project – 2nd December 2022 in the Pannier Market, South Molton.

‘Join us for a drop in craft activity for kids and the young at heart. We will be making flying angel decorations using found and recycled materials. Our aim is to make creating together open to all while minimising our impact on the environment. ‘

This year at Winter Wonderland we will have creative activities for children (and grownups if they want to join in).

Using recycled materials, natural objects, pencils, colour and paint you are invited to create flying angel decorations. Bring some materials with you if you want and join in with the family fun.

Our Winter Wonderland event will take place during the evening, from 5.00pm.

Like the Christmas events put on pre-pandemic, there will be lots to do and opportunities to purchase those special gifts, eat food, drink and be entertained. Christmas stalls and handmade gifts, a broad range of food and drink vendors, will be in the Pannier Market and live music and fairground rides will be outside. Many local shops will also stay open during the event and the centre of South Molton will be traffic free making the event truly fun for all the family.

We are very pleased to confirm that this year’s Winter Wonderland will be going back to its traditional evening format. Like the Christmas events we put on pre pandemic. There will be lots to do and opportunities to purchase those special gifts, eat food, drink and be entertained.

The centre of South Molton will be traffic free.
We have several fairground rides including: Hulk ride, trampolines, jump the boom and a train ride.
There is also a live music stage behind the medical hall.
This year there will be a variety of food vendors as well as seasonal market stalls selling unique Christmas items in the Pannier Market.
Other inclusions to the event will be announced ASAP

Griffiths are co-hosting a Macmillan Cancer Support Charity Lunch at The Stags Head, Filleigh on 29th September from 12.30, with the Sue and John Pryor, owners of The Stags Head.

Winter Wonderland 2nd December 2022 - This year our Winter Wonderland event will take place during the evening. Set up is from noon, starting at approximately 5.00pm.

The Pannier Market layout will be the same as previous years with traders being offered frontage only, in multiples of 10’ tables. There will also be stalls in the centre of the town available if you are interested.

Node Cowork, Barnstaple run a business support programme and are running a project called ‘Kickstart your Business’ which is fully funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund.

Barnstaple and District Chamber of Commerce at the North Devon Show

The North Devon Show is on 3rd August, 2022. The North Devon Show, is run by a registered Charity, North Devon Agricultural Society formed in 1966.

The North Devon Show is a traditional one day show and is a celebration of all things Rural and has something for everyone.

The Showground at Umberleigh Barton Farm is a 50 acre site with car parking of 42 acres.

Children’s Hospice South West have a new fundraising campaign for North Devon. They are working with the Art of Fundraising to bring a sculpture trail to North Devon.


CHSW are working on this project, which will feature 25 5ft Bears decorated by renowned local artists. These will be placed in and around the area and will be ‘hosted’ by local businesses and organisations. We hope to make 5 mini trails within the overall trail to feature all areas within our beautiful geography. We are looking to work with partners across the area to deliver the event and maximise the opportunity for the charity and the local area / businesses.

Following on from the Chancellor’s spring statement, it is apparent that we must brace ourselves for the possibility of harder times to come. The most affected will be the poorer paid and those (including pensioners) who rely on some form of state support.

It is accepted that those who are in lower income brackets rely more on the use of cash – this can be for a variety of reasons including; they do not meet the criteria to qualify for a bank account or they are paid in cash etc.

It is therefore alarming to see many places, including swimming pools and some shops no longer accepting cash as a form of payment for goods or services. The cost of banking cash, local bank closures, the additional security risks and policies entailed in handling cash within a business are factors in why we are heading towards a cashless society.

To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Devon, Lady Arran, of Castle Hill, wishes to get as much of Devon as possible covered with native, broad-leaved, deciduous trees, as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy. This is in accordance with Queen Elizabeth II's request that to mark her 70 years on the throne, individuals and communities create a 'special gift' by planting trees with a view to increase and protect the native tree cover.

The Winter Wonderland by Day last year 2021 was successful and as a result SMBA were able to distribute the following gifts to:

Scouts – £50
Community Rock Choir – £100
South Molton Town Band – £150

The funds raised by South Molton Business Association during the Winter Wonderland event are used to promote South Molton Town and the surrounding businesses throughout the year. South Molton Business Association is run voluntarily by an Executive Team and as such do not seek to gain personal profit through the organisation of events.
