Sowerby Bridge Fire and Water Creating a landmark centre for arts & culture, education and community in Sowerby Bridge It is an organisation for the community run by the community.

SBF&W is a not-for-profit organisation, initially set up as a limited company, run by a board of trustees and special advisors, all of whom are drawn from the local community. But anyone can become involved with the project and we expect the active membership to expand to reflect all sectors of the local community.

Join Northern Broadsides as they invite you to witness something truly spectacular โ€” a FREE outdoor performance inspired by Ted Hughesโ€™ The Iron Man and The Iron Woman, at Eureka!

As part of a year-long project, three towering puppet creatures (designed by local children from Todmorden, Sowerby Bridge & Park Ward) will emerge from the rivers, moors, and streets of Calderdale to confront us about how we treat the planet ๐ŸŒฑโœจ

Step inside the stories of Sowerby Bridge with Talking Walls, a three-day exhibition blending virtual reality, photography and multi-sensory installations to bring the townโ€™s past to life.

Discover the histories of three iconic buildingsโ€”the former fire station, swimming baths, and council officesโ€”through art to showcase the voices of local people. Experience the town from a whole new perspective with a 360-degree VR aerial view of Sowerby Bridge, transporting you above the rooftops.

Created by local artists Lucy Rose Fee and Jason Foster (currently exhibiting at The Puzzle Hall), Talking Walls is part of the ongoing Calder Tales oral history project, capturing the memories that shape our community.

Our Story

Fire & Water exists to provide facilitate and promote education, training and culture for the people of Sowerby Bridge.

Our aim is to provide a meeting place for community groups and organisations; support community events such as open days, pop-up events providing services to the community and exhibitions. We want to create a local history room, studio spaces, teaching spaces, studio theatre, venue, band rehearsal space, centre for public events, cafรฉ, riverside garden and river viewing places, spaces for hire for community groups, workshop space, community storage spaces (e.g. depot for emergency tools and PPE), centre for community anchor facilities, spaces for hire or rent to individuals or groups.

In essence, we want to provide facilities, available to everyone in the community, where no similar facilities exist.
