Creating a landmark centre for arts & culture, education and community in Sowerby Bridge It is an organisation for the community run by the community.

SBF&W is a not-for-profit organisation, initially set up as a limited company, run by a board of trustees and special advisors, all of whom are drawn from the local community. But anyone can become involved with the project and we expect the active membership to expand to reflect all sectors of the local community.

A family-friendly roadshow is making its way through Calderdale this summer, working in partnership with Eureka! The National Children's Museum and Play Services.

Tinker, Make, Create Roadshow will continue in Elland on 23rd August and brings together local makers, artists, engineers & crafters for eight half-day sessions.

The Roadshow will culminate in a day-long festival at Eureka! with more than 30 different activities - from launching rockets to art exploration.

This weekend we will be joined by Porcus

We had our AGM and first open mic for several years tonight. The news from the AGM will follow shortly, but thought we could share some lovely photos and videos from the open mic. (More in comments) We are currently planning bi-monthly open mics and in between bi-monthly jam sessions. Let us know if you're interested!

If you are coming by vehicle this evening, please park in our car park which is now open, and make your way to the arched doorway in the middle of the building. If you can't make it at 6.30, or can only pop in for half an hour or show your face, please feel free. It is a very informal occasion, with no strict schedule. Hope to see you later.

Our Story

Fire & Water exists to provide facilitate and promote education, training and culture for the people of Sowerby Bridge.

Our aim is to provide a meeting place for community groups and organisations; support community events such as open days, pop-up events providing services to the community and exhibitions. We want to create a local history room, studio spaces, teaching spaces, studio theatre, venue, band rehearsal space, centre for public events, café, riverside garden and river viewing places, spaces for hire for community groups, workshop space, community storage spaces (e.g. depot for emergency tools and PPE), centre for community anchor facilities, spaces for hire or rent to individuals or groups.

In essence, we want to provide facilities, available to everyone in the community, where no similar facilities exist.
