What a great weekend we all had at powwow! It was lovely to have so many of you there to enjoy the weekend and to see so many new friendships being made! We’re so proud to host such a warm, positive and inclusive community where everyone is welcome 🥰

Despite the rain on Saturday morning and the wind on Sunday, we were treated to some absolutely beautiful skies over the weekend too 😍

Planning has now started for our next powwow in September, we’re hoping to make this one even bigger and better than the last! We would absolutely love to hear any feedback you may have about our event, whether it’s something you liked or something we could do better next time. If you’d like to share anything with us please feel free to drop a comment below or reach out to us directly via DM!

Beautiful handcrafted dream catchers, created by Dreamweaver who will be with us for our powwow on 8-9th June 💫

Dream catchers originated from the Ojibwe (Chippewa) tribe, who believed that any bad dreams would be caught in the web, while good dreams would fall down the feathers to the person sleeping below. In the morning, the sun would rise and destroy any bad dreams that were caught in the web and therefore it was very important to ensure the dream catcher was hung in location where it would be exposed to direct sunlight!

Take a look at this beautiful beadwork, crafted by Hania's Trading post 🤩

Prior to the arrival of European settlers in the 1500’s, Native American bead artists used materials they could find in the environment to embroider onto all kinds of items and make beautiful pieces of jewellery. Some of the materials commonly used included stones, shells and porcupine quills.

When Europeans settlers came to America, they brought with them coloured glass beads which were traded to the Native peoples. This allowed Native bead workers to craft amazing and intricate designs and patterns, such as the ones in the picture below!

Beadwork is a timely process, but with a talented bead worker can result in some truly beautiful and unique designs 💜

Native inspired bead bracelets & Ear rings. Made by us, will be for sale at High Wycombe Powwow & All Nations Powwows in June & September.. prices start from £16.50…

Did you know it only takes one person to pitch a full sized tipi?

While it’s always easier and faster to pitch this type of tent with helpers, it is actually possible to do yourself as a single person without any assistance!

Learn all about pitching and more at our tipi talk on the 8th June during our summer powwow 🏕️

Almost half of tickets have now been reserved so don’t delay if you’d like to secure a space - it’s absolutely free and anyone is more than welcome to join 😊

This talk will run for approximately 45 minutes, and will include an opportunity to ask any questions you may have at the end of the session.

‘Regalia’ is the term given to the distinctive clothing and items worn for formal occasions. During powwow you will see a variety of dancers performing in all different types of regalia.

The regalia a dancer chooses to wear is selected based both tradition and personal tastes. Dancers will also often wear or carry inhereited items that have been passed down to them by family or friends.

A dancer’s powwow regalia is a therefore collection of clothes and items that reflect their lives, interests, and family background. Wearing regalia is both a form of self-expression but also a way to feel close to and connect with past generations 🪶
