I’m an experienced baker and cake decorator based at Gedney Drove End, near Holbeach in South Lincolnshire. I make cupcakes, celebration cakes, party cakes, and “tea time treats” using good quality ingredients, including free range eggs, to order. I take your specifications and work with your ideas or themes to create cakes individual to you. I will do my best to cater for any special dietary requ

irements, e.g. dairy free, ingredients not including gluten, etc., but please be aware that as I work from my home I cannot guarantee that my cakes will not contain traces of nuts, dairy or gluten. I’ve been baking since I was a small child, encouraged by my mother, and my Nan. From an enjoyable pastime making small cakes and treats for family, I started taking an interest in cake decoration skills and completed a short part-time course whilst I was at college studying other subjects. I enjoyed the course so much I took over the traditional annual making and decorating the family Christmas cake from my father and was hooked! I started making cakes for friends’ parties and birthdays and getting compliments. That was quite some years ago now, but normal life took over and saw me reverting to only making Christmas cake, but then I discovered cupcakes – who knew that you could be quite so creative with these little cakes that we used to call “fairy cakes” when I was young? Again I was hooked – re-visited my love of making big cakes too, friends again started asking me to make them cakes – and here I am!

This isn't what you'd normally think of when you are asked to make a sandwich cake! For a recipient who is partial to a nice sandwich, Vanilla sponge, decorated to look like a cheese and tomato sandwich with an extra tomato and a slice of red onion on the side.

Still on catch-up with the photographs. Congratulations to Shereece and Carl last weekend on their wedding. This time a purple and gold theme, with real gold leaf. The flavours were vanilla, lemon and chocolate. The decorations were kept simple, with graduated purple airbrushing gently brushed with a soft-bristled brush while wet to give a textured finish, the gold leaf applied, joins piped with royal icing, and finished with the customer's supplied silk flowers.

I've been a bit lax on posting pictures recently, so belated congratulations to Christine and Paul who were married earlier in September at Woodlands Hotel in Spalding. A cake with very pink theme, with roses and a 3D version of their wedding monogram which featured on their invites.

A rare weekend off coming up, but not before I had the honour of providing cake for the 101st birthday of the rather younger looking Douglas on Monday. The black and white theme was derived from the 101 Dalmatians. 100 sugarpaste covered lemon or chocolate cupcakes in the tower, topped with one 6" vanilla sponge made up the total 101 cakes. Happy birthday Douglas #101

Back at the Holbeach show today, and the sun is out for now. I'm not commenting on what the weather app says today after it gave me false information yesterday!!! Restocked with plenty of cake after a late night baking session last night!

It's little damp at the Holbeach show at the moment but I am informed by the weather app that the rain should stop in a while and then be dry for the rest of the show. Why not come along later, we are here all day tomorrow too.

Its that time again, although we did miss the May market, it still seems to have come around so quickly again! I'll soon be starting to prepare stock for the June Indoor Farmers Market (including of course the ever popular carrot cake!) and looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

Belated congratulations to the happy couple who ordered this black and white themed cupcake tower for their wedding on Sunday. I complimented the theme with some special cupcake wrappers as a finishing touch. Thank you for your custom and I'm so glad you and your guests all enjoyed the cakes.
