For all our followers, new and old, here’s a glimpse into the rich history of Cambo House!

Cambo House has been a cherished part of our community for centuries. It all began with John De Cambo, who likely received the estate as a Norman land grant in the 12th or 13th century. Over the years, it changed hands until it became the property of the Erskine family in the 17th century. Sir Charles Erskine, the Lord Lyon King of Arms, purchased the estate in 1668, and it eventually passed to the 5th Earl of Kellie, who lost his lands after supporting the Jacobite rising in 1745.

In the late 18th century, Thomas Erskine, the 9th Earl of Kellie, put his mark on the estate by commissioning architect Robert Balfour to remodel the house, creating the stunning Georgian architecture we admire today. After a fire in 1878, a new design was built, intended to outshine the Balfour family home.

Fast forward to the late 1940s, when the estate opened its doors to tenants, including students and holidaymakers. In 1976, Peter Erskine took over the estate, dedicating his efforts to making Cambo a thriving community hub focused on sustainability and inclusivity.

Today, under the guidance of the Cambo Trust, we’re proud to carry on the legacy of this beautiful estate while embracing modern values. With a focus on community, opportunity, heritage, sustainability, and fun, Cambo House continues to be a beloved destination for everyone. We’re excited to share our history with you and look forward to many more memories to come!

It’s time to get your friends together and spend a weekend cooking together, on long walks through the countryside, and hanging out by the fire pit with a morning coffee or evening drink in hand.

The bothy may be small, but it's full of heart – with a wood-burning stove, a big bed up in the sleeping nook that lets you gaze at the stars, and a stylish, comfortable interior. It’s a chance to disconnect, enjoy nature, and share simple moments with the people who matter most.

At Cambo Estate, we’re proud to have Kingsbarns Distillery as a tenant, where a rich legacy of craftsmanship and tradition comes to life. Their Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made from just three simple ingredients: barley, water, and yeast. By sourcing barley from local farms, they support British farmers while embracing sustainability in everything they do.

The Wemyss family’s passion for malt whisky stretches back to the 19th century when John Haig established his first distillery on Wemyss land. Today, that legacy continues as Kingsbarns transforms a historic farmstead into a thriving distillery. Originally built around 1800 as part of East Newhall Farm by Thomas Erskine, the ninth Earl of Kellie, this charming Georgian farmstead once served Cambo House and the estate.

A must-visit on our next trip to Cambo! 🥃

A family day at Kingsbarns Beach is always an adventure!

With its soft sand stretching for miles and the dunes providing the perfect spot for hide-and-seek, there’s something for everyone. The kids will love exploring the rock pools, where crabs and starfish peek out from under seaweed, while you can relax and take in the stunning coastal views. After a fun day by the sea, wander back to Cambo Estate for a peaceful stroll through the gardens, coffee, and woodland to round off the perfect beach day.

Did you know that The Inn at Kingsbarns, just a short distance from us in the picturesque village of Kingsbarns, has successfully completed a community buyout?

This historic inn, which has served the community since the 1800s, is now under the care of the Kingsbarns Community Development Trust. The Trust plans to transform the inn into a vibrant community hub, preserving its traditional pub, restaurant, and beer garden while also adding a daytime café and a community shop.

This initiative reflects a growing trend of community-owned pubs in the UK, and we're excited to see The Inn continue to thrive as a beloved local gathering spot. We look forward to our guests enjoying the warm hospitality and vibrant atmosphere it offers.

After their stunning wedding at Cambo Estate, Kara and Joseph enjoyed a peaceful stroll down to the beach. With its 2 miles of sandy shores and breathtaking coastal views, Cambo Sands was the perfect place to unwind and reflect on their special day.

We hope they brought the whole family to the beach the next morning for a refreshing dip to wake up after dancing the night away!

It’s the perfect opportunity for budding cyclists to gain confidence and enjoy the outdoors. Routes will be signposted and stewards will be circulating. Don’t forget you can fuel up in the cafe before or after you set off.... 🥪☕️ 🪖Helmets must be worn and we ask for a ratio of 1 adult to 2 children. 🖱️Book your bike in via the online calendar at cambogardens.org.uk/whats-on (select ticketed event at 1pm on 23 Nov) for a £2 donation to Cambo Heritage Trust so we can manage our numbers.
