🌿 Time to Divide! 🌿
Early spring is the perfect time to divide perennials, creating new plants and giving them a fresh start for the season ahead! ✂️In this reel, I’m dividing a hardy geranium, one of the easiest perennials to split and replant.
Why divide perennials?
🌱 Encourages healthier, more vigorous growth
🌱 Prevents overcrowding
🌱 Gives you more plants—for free!
Water your plant well before dividing, and replant sections quickly to reduce stress. I have a trug with a bit of water in the bottom close by to keep the divided half happy whilst I replant the other half!

Nasturtiums are the ultimate multi-taskers in the garden! 🌼💚 These vibrant blooms aren’t just pretty, they’re also…
🌼 Companion planting superstars – They repel aphids and whiteflies, making them perfect for planting near plants that are vulnerable to these pests.
🌼 Totally edible! Both the leaves and flowers have a delicious peppery flavour that’s perfect for salads, garnishes, and homemade pesto (I have a recipe reel for this - it’s delicious!)
🌼 Great for cut flower arrangements – Their trailing habit and delicate blooms make them a gorgeous filler in bouquets!
Nasturtiums thrive in poor soil and full sun, so they’re easy to grow almost anywhere. Sow them now for blooms this summer!

If you’ve had crocuses, or any spring flowers, blooming in pots, don’t throw them out now that they’re past their best! These little gems can be planted into your garden, where they’ll settle in and bloom again next spring. ✨
Here’s how:
🌱 Find a sunny or lightly shaded spot with well-draining soil.
🌿 Dig a hole deep enough to cover the corms, about 3 inches down.
💧 Water them in, then let nature do the rest!
By replanting your spring flowers, you free up your pots for gorgeous summer blooms while ensuring a burst of early spring colour in your garden next year. Win-win! 🌼

Sweet pea sow-along part 3 🌱✨
The tips that we pinched out last time should now have developed a good set of roots after sitting in water on a sunny windowsill for a good few weeks.
To pot these up, plant the tips up to the first set of leaves in deep pots filled with fresh co post. I’m planting 4 tips per pot.
Water well and leave them to grow on where the rest of your sweet peas are currently growing.
Come back for part 4 soon where we’ll be planting out!

Usually caused by lack of light, overcrowding and depleted nutrients in the soil, leggy seedlings are tall, thin and weak and definitely not what we want for strong, healthy plants!
But you can come back from it… when you notice your seedlings are growing leggy, pot them on into fresh compost and bury the stem up to the first set of leaves. Roots will form out of the buried stem. You can also do this when planting out.
To prevent seedlings from getting leggy, make sure they are getting enough even sunlight and don’t sow seeds too early. Early sowings are usually under lower light levels and will have to sit in their pots for longer until they can be planted out.

Our baby snapdragons are growing up! By now, they should be developing their true leaves, these are the second set that appears after the seedling leaves. This is a sign they’re ready to be potted on!
🌿 How to pot them on:
✨ Gently loosen the soil and lift the seedlings by their leaves (never the stem, as it’s still delicate).
✨ Transplant them into small individual pots filled with fresh compost.
✨ Water well and place them in a bright, sheltered spot to continue growing.
Stay tuned for Part 3, where we’ll be planting them out! 💐✨

Sweet pea sow along part 2 🌱
By now are sweet peas should be germinated and growing well. Now we need to move them somewhere cooler to grow on or they’ll become leggy. Becoming leggy means the plants become too tall and spindly as they reach for the light resulting in weaker plants and disappointing flowers.
Sweet peas prefer to grow in cool temperatures, around 10 degrees but they can tolerate lower as they are fairly hardy. I’ll be moving my seedlings to a zippy greenhouse outside. A cold frame would be perfect and you can make your own using a clear plastic lidded box, just drill some ventilation holes in the lid and place it somewhere sunny outside. The lid can be removed as needed.
Before we move the seedlings outside, we’re going to pinch out the growing tip. This means removing the very top part of the main stem, just above a set of leaves. You should be able to pinch it out easily using your thumb and index finger, some clean scissors will work fine too. This will encourage the plant to become bushier rather than growing tall and result in more flowers! These pinched out tips can be placed in a glass of water on a sunny windowsill to root. Once rooted they can be potted up and grown on as new plants.
Once you’ve moved your sweet peas to a greenhouse or cold frame, keep any eye on the weather. If a frost is forecast, cover them over night with a fleece blanket.
Came back for part 3 soon where we’ll pot up our pinched out tips and create a structure for the sweet peas to grow up ready for planting out!
