If you want non-stop flowers in your garden (and vases!), these are the best cut-and-come-again blooms to grow! 💐

🌸Cosmos – The more you cut, the more they bloom! Perfect for filling your garden with colour all summer long.

🌸 Sweet Peas – Keep picking, and they’ll keep producing fragrant, delicate blooms from early summer.

🌸 Zinnias – Heat-loving and long-lasting, zinnias provide a constant flush of bold, bright flowers until the first frost.

🌸 Dahlias – With regular deadheading, dahlias bloom from midsummer to the first frost, offering stunning, large flowers for cutting.

🌸 Rudbeckia – Hardy, low-maintenance, and blooming for months—perfect for late-season colour.

Bonus tip… Regular cutting and deadheading encourages even more blooms! Want to learn how to grow these flowers? Grab my flower-growing guides via the link in my bio!

Seed sowing season is in full swing! 🌸✨

There’s plenty popping up in the garden, but I’m still holding off on sowing my most tender summer annuals. I’m waiting for slightly warmer nights and longer daylight hours so they grow strong and sturdy instead of weak and leggy! 🌿☀️

Here’s some of what I’ve got left to sow:
🌸 Cosmos
🌸 Zinnias
🌸 Sunflowers
🌸 China Asters
🌸 Ammi Majus

And of course, it’s time to pot up my dahlia tubers for a spectacular summer display! 💐✨

📢 What are you sowing this week? Let me know in the comments! 👇

Looking back, there are so many things I wish I had known when I first started my cut flower patch. If I were to start all over again, here’s the advice I would give myself...

🌸Start Small & Simple - I’d focus on a few easy-to-grow varieties like cosmos, calendula and sunflowers to build confidence and avoid overwhelm. Boy did I want to grow it all, all in one go!

🌸Invest in Good Soil - Healthy soil = healthy blooms!
When I first created my no-dig beds, I didn’t put enough compost on. More compost and organic matter would be my top priority from day one.

🌸Plan for Successions - Instead of planting all at once, l’d stagger sowing to enjoy blooms all season long. Now I take more time to work out blooming seasons so l have a steady flow of flowers throughout spring, summer and autumn.

🌸Support Early - I’d add stakes and netting right away to avoid floppy stems later on. I now put my supports in as I plant out rather than waiting until they need them.

🌸Enjoy the Process - Gardening is about progress, not perfection. I’d embrace the learning journey, stop comparing and realise that patience is key!

If you’re starting your own cut flower patch, take it one step at a time. Your dream garden will bloom before you know it!

It’s been a busy one! Seed sowing is in full swing (with plenty more to go), snapdragons have been potted on, and the baby dahlia seedlings have germinated. Outside, the mulching and wood chipping continue, and I’m attempting to create a little wildlife pond… watch this space!

Meanwhile, the first anemones are here (🥺) and sourdough is back on the menu after a good baking session (starter is still going strong 💪).

How lovely has the sunshine been 🌞🌞🌞 hopefully a little taste of what’s to come this spring!🤞🏻

March is the month when spring starts to take hold and the gardening seasons really kicks up a gear!

🌸 we can start sowing our half hardy summer annuals undercover. These will be my main crop of cut flowers on the plot.

🌸 it’s a good idea to get dahlias tubers growing undercover before planting out in May. Plant them up into large pots and keep them inside (greenhouse, porch etc).

🌸 early spring is the perfect time to prune and divide perennials. I’ll be dividing my hardy geraniums. Other perennials to divide now include irises and hostas.

🌸 I will be continuing to mulch and w**d my flower beds this month in preparation for planting out.

What’s on your to do list for the month ahead?

Anyone else itching to get their cosmos sown?! 🙋‍♀️

It’ll be a few more weeks yet until I do get them started when light levels are better and temperatures milder, meaning the plants should grow stronger and there’s less chance of them getting leggy or pot bound 🌱

I’m having a break from my beloved double click bonbons this year and will be growing cupcake blush, candy stripe and sensation. And probably a few more I’ll pick up between now and sowing!

What cosmos varieties are you growing this year?

The best perennial on my cut flower plot…

🌼Giant Scabious🌼

The perfect lemony ruffles and long flower stems to die for!

Now is the perfect time to cut back perennials and give them a good mulch. And as the temperatures get milder, lift and divide them if needed.

What’s your favourite flowering perennial?

School holidays can be chaotic but I relish the slow mornings, no dragging people out of bed and rushing to get everyone out of the door. And this half term week we’ve definitely enjoyed the slow starts.

We’ve had lovely days out with friends (Manchester airport runway viewing park was brilliant, the pilots waved at the kids as they went past!) I’ve also managed to get the boys out for quite a few walks (with the occasional McDonald’s bribery!) and that’s meant we’ve spotted lots of spring flowers 😍 and we’ve the milder temperatures at the end of the week it’s definitely felt like spring is near!

I have managed to spend a bit of time in the garden clearing boarders (spent a good amount of time digging up the dreaded creeping buttercup that likes to invade my garden every winter!) I’ve also found time for some baking sessions too. I baked my 4th sourdough loaf and I’ve managed to keep my starter going for well over a month now 🙌🏻

I’ll be heading back to the flower plot next week to check on my spring bulbs (will we have daffodils ready for cutting soon?!), finish mulching the beds and start to get the polytunnel ready for the mass summer annual seed sowing that begins in a couple of weeks, I can’t wait! 🌱

What have been your highlights this week?

It’s been dull old month so far but that hasn’t stopped me cracking on with getting the gardening season underway 🌱

However, I have put a hold on sowing anymore seeds at the moment as light levels are just too low. My early February sowings of hardy annuals are germinating and growing slowly but I won’t be sowing any half hardy annuals until March.

And if you haven’t sown a single seed yet this year, that is absolutely fine. We still have plenty of time and, from my experience, the later sown flowers tend to be stronger plants.

My main focus this month so far has been on mulching and getting the soil in the best possible condition for when it comes to planting out. Healthy soil = healthy blooms!

What have you been up to in the garden this month so far?

Feeling inspired after reading article about searching for moments of glimmer - small moments of joy in everyday life, here are mine from this week….

🌸 Sowing sweet peas, snapdragons and larkspur and noting them down in my cut flower planner. Is there anything more satisfying than ticking off a to do list?!

🌸 Getting some of the flower beds mulched, a freshly mulched bed makes the whole plot look more tidy and ready for a new season.

🌸 Spotting hellebores in flower, spring is on its way!

🌸 Finally getting my sourdough starter to work and then bake a decent loaf - it’s a long process but a very enjoyable one.

🌸 A fun weekend in York with good friends! Nothing better for the soul than a good catch up with old friends.

What have your glimmer moments been this week?

February may still feel like winter but there’s plenty to do in the flower garden to set the stage for a beautiful spring and summer. Spring really is just around the corner now.

Here are some gardening jobs I’ll be on the flower plot this month and you can do in your garden too:

Keep sowing those hardy annuals, ill@be sowing more sweet peas, scabiosa, larkspur and snapdragons this month. Don’t be tempted to do half hardy annuals just yet (I know it’s tempting!!)

Don’t let the w**ds get comfy—pull them up before they take hold.

With cold snaps still lurking, make sure your plants are protected. I have a frost fleece ready and waiting for my ranunculus and anemones.

February is also the perfect time to prune roses and late-flowering clematis (group 3) to keep them looking their best.

And don’t forget—mulch, mulch, and more mulch! Your garden will thank you for it. Healthy soil = healthy blooms!

What have you got planned for the garden this month?

As winter’s chill lingers, the delicate snowdrop emerges, braving the frost to bring hope and renewal. These tiny white blooms, often seen pushing through snow covered ground, are a symbol of purity, hope and new beginnings.

I spotted the first snowdrops blooming near me this week. They are the first sign of the shifting seasons, heralding lighter and warmer days ahead.

There are some beautiful folklores about snowdrops. One of my favourites is an old European tale:

It is said that snowdrops were once ordinary green flowers. One winter, as the Snow Queen swept across the land, she noticed their resilience against the cold and gifted them her colour, pure white, as a mark of their courage. Ever since, snowdrops have symbolised the promise of spring.

Have you spotted any snowdrops flowering yet other signs that spring is not far away? Share in the comments 🤍

If you’ve spotted my Instagram name change (or maybe you haven’t! 😂), here’s why:

When I first started this account years ago, it was all about my floristry work with a sprinkle of growing my own cut flowers. But as time has gone on, I’ve discovered that growing cut flowers is where my heart truly lies.

Now, this space is all about my flower plot and sharing tips, tricks, and experiences from my cut flower journey. It only felt right to embrace that with a new name! 🌼✨

Thanks for being here and growing along with me!

Right now, the flower plot feels still and quiet. The soil is resting, the seeds are waiting, and the promise of spring is just below the surface (or starting to poke through if you look closely for bulbs growing 🌱) January is the month for dreaming and planning for what’s to come.

It might look bare now, but just wait a few months…

👉 Swipe to see the transformation! 🌸 and this never ceases to amaze me! That the tiny seeds waiting to be planted now, will be beautiful and colourful flowers in a few months time! And that is what keeps me gardening, the whole process is miraculous🌱✨💐

Lots of food, lots of family time & friends, and a trip to the seaside 🎄💕🌊

Apart from coming down with a horrible cold and throat infection on Boxing Day, it’s been a lovely week! I hope you’ve all had a restful and happy time too 🥂

I’ll be heading back from the coast tomorrow and I’m really looking forward to start properly planning the 2025 flower plot and garden renovations! I’ve had a few lovely gardening related gifts from Santa that will definitely help with this - I’ll share them on my stories when I’m home.

Did Santa bring you any garden gifts? 🎅🏻💕🌸
