BKL FINALS are Go!

Twelve British teams take their final step today in this years competition to win entries into the European SAILING Champions League in 2025.

The BKL Finals which just happen to be scheduled on the same weekend as the Sailing Champions League finals, are being sailed in J70's from the Royal Southern Yacht Club. Racing started at lunchtime today, and the BKL Champions will be crowned on Sunday evening.

Hot favourites going into the finals must be the Academy team from the Royal Thames Yacht Club who won last years finals and went on to represent their club in the SCL in Berlin earlier this year.

Equally strong are expected to be the teams from Solent University, Southampton, winners of the University Keelboat Sailing League, who also competed alongside Marconi Sailing Club and the team from The University of Strathclyde Sailing Club, in the SCL in 2024.

Two womens teams will be aiming to finish high in the final league table, as both the winners of the Women's Open Keelboat Championship BKL event, team SMASH, and last years BKL Womens team winners Lymington Town Sailing Club will prove strong competition.

Many of the teams have younger crew members onboard and this doesn't just include the teams from the Ryde School and The Royal Hospital School from the National School Sailing Association and a team of leavers from Sherborne School. All our younger teams will be trying to win an entry into the youths SCL competition next year.

Burnham Sailing Club, runners up to the RTYC in the Eastern event in June, will be looking to progress in what for them is their first year competing in the British Keelboat League, and like the teams From Waldringfield Sailing Club, and the St Helier YC, they'll be sailing hard to make their mark in this years finals.
