I am Kerry, the Secretary of Northumberland County Show. I am so thrilled that we have been shortlisted for the "Tourism Festival or Event category in the North East England Tourism Awards 2025." It would mean the world to us if we won this coveted prize and would recognise all the amazing hard work of our hundreds of volunteers who have made the Show such a popular event.

Tynedale Agricultural Society exists to support famers, local charities and provide learning and networking opportunities. We are rooted in our community and giving back is part of our ethos.

Thank you so much to Visit Northumberland and Sarah Jayne Davidson for inviting us to the annual Visit Northumberland Conference today. We met some great people and learned so much from the expert speakers.

Thank you to everyone who attended our conference today, it’s been a pleasure to catch up with familiar faces and to meet new faces as well.

It is two years since 15 year old Holly Newton was fatally stabbed in Hexham. Her death shocked the whole region, leaving local communities in Hexham and Consett profoundly affected by the tragedy.

In her memory, Holly's mum and step-dad Micala and Lee Trussler set-up a non-profit organisation called Holly's Hope. The Trusslers have launched a fundraising mission they hope will help spare other families the heartache they have endured. They have set themselves a goal to help teens and young adults to spot the signs of domestic abuse and raise funds to buy emergency bleed boxes to go in to the community that could help prevent further tragedies.

The life-saving boxes are specially designed first aid kits that give people on the scene of a stabbing or incident where someone is bleeding heavily the equipment they need to help before emergency services arrive.

One of the first of these special emergency kits was delivered to Northumberland County Show last month. Secretary, Kerry Robson explained, “Here at Tynedale Agricultural Society, we all felt the same disbelief and horror that violent knife crime had touched our town. We want to support the work of Holly’s Hope and see positive outcomes from such a terrible event.

“The bleed box will be stored at our office most of the year and be on site at the Showground for our event in May. Hopefully we will never need it, but at least we are prepared for a major trauma injury, and it is also available for any staff or visitors at Hexham Auction Mart.”

Show organisers are keen to promote the bleed boxes to other organisations. Kerry added, “Micala and Lee are also offering full training with the kit, which means that staff and colleagues are aware how to use this brilliant facility. In the farming industry, sadly accidents with machinery and livestock are common, and the cost of a bleed box is a small price to pay if it could save a life.”

Fantastic news that our very dedicated Sarah Davidson has been shortlisted for Volunteer of the Year with the North East England Tourism Awards.
Designed to champion those dedicated volunteers who keep our visitor economy ticking, the Volunteer of the Year category was open to those volunteering within the tourism and hospitality sector. Sarah has been a brilliant help to the office and show team during show set up......Well Done Sarah!

Delighted to announce that our very own Assistant Show Secretary, Ellie Robson has been shortlisted for the Rising Star Award in the Destination North East England Tourism Awards.

Celebrating those new to the industry, whether they are fresh out of training or exploring a new career, The Rising Star Award will shine a light on the most exciting new talent in the visitor economy, from amazing apprentices to superstar trainee managers to those making a real impact on their business or organisation.
