So, this post is coming from the perspective of my behind-scenes-role designing posters/match/cards graphics for wrestling promotions:
Wrestlers/performers; you are not just simply āa wrestlerā, you are a brand, therefore please promote and invest in yourself both inside AND outside of the ring, particularly with your promo pics which is specifically the point iām getting to.
Iāve been doing posters and graphics for a few promotions for some time and not saying my work is absolutely perfect, but itās a matter of opinion and promoters are generally very happy and I receive positive feedback, and as long as the promotion iām doing the work for are happy thatās what counts. However, over the years I have constantly encountered an issue with experienced wrestlers providing extremely poor promo pics with an expectation that theyāre ok to use, some examples being:
- extremely blurry/low resolution
- parts out of the frame i.e top of the head missing (only ok if youāre the Tizer guy)
- tag team pics where half of one person is blocked, and expected to crop and use for a singles match card (if youāre a team, always get single shots as well as team ones)
- the same singular promo pic for 4 years - mix it up and keep up to date, and get several shots with different poses and angles
The thing is, when Iāve pushed back on this sort of thing, Iām perceived as being awkward. But thatās not the case, I take pride in my work and I canāt just slap a low-res selfie with your left arm missing on a poster and āmake it workā, it devalues you as a wrestler, the other performers appearing AND the overall graphic itself. Itās ālittle thingsā like this that get overlooked in my opinion and I want to make people/posters look as good as I can š
