Enjoy your private party in the most unique setting.
A very special celebration was hosted in the Walled Garden recently with a beautiful Glass House constructed in the Orchard, surrounded by wildflowers and apple trees.
Our Theatre Garden was transformed into an elegant ‘chill out’ zone beneath our Italian Marquee.

With Summer being the traditional season of travel for so many of us, we wanted to share this wonderful map. It’s one of many exquisite works that resides in the Wormsley Library.
The pages literally sparkle, thanks to the azurite used to illustrate and embellish each one.
PTOLEMAEUS (C.)
Cosmographia
Ulm:1482
Printed on vellum, with 32 hand-coloured woodcut maps. Bound by Derome, in Paris in c.1780, for Count Maccarthy Reagh.

Every year, the Garsington Opera chooses an image for its Summer programme cover from the books in the Wormsley Estate Library.
This year the image is from Aventures prodigieuses de Tarascon by Alphonse Daudet (Paris, 1937) and illustrated by Raoul Dufy with 107 colour-printed lithographs in the text and 34 colour-printed lithograph initials.
One of only 130 copies, this stunning binding, with its lion’s-head mask of coloured leathers and gilt tooling, was designed by Paul Bonet. It was executed by René Desmules, gilded by Charles Collet and completed in January 1957.

We were delighted to welcome Founders Forum back to Wormsley earlier this May. Their fantastic event provided us with the opportunity to host marquee fine dining on Home Farm Lawn, with glorious views over Deer Park - a first for us.

Stand out on the perfectly manicured lawns of Home Farm House in summertime and you’ll often hear the lilting sound of opera echoing through the gardens from the Garsington Opera.
There are some wonderful performances to experience this summer, including A Midsummer NIght’s Dream, Le nozze di Figaro and Un giorno di regno.

Bees are essential to our environment. We rely on them, and other insects, to pollinate most of our fruit and vegetables.
The sad fact is that these amazing creatures are under threat. But not at Wormsley. On World Bee Day and on every other day of the year, we do everything we can to attract them to our gardens and grounds.
Beekeeper, Paul, has been checking that our queens are laying. We have about 40,000 bees in our hives currently and will soon have around 60,000. In return for our care and nurture, we get to harvest their delicious honey.

The Wormsley team has been preparing Home Farm Barn and lawn for some very special events.
There’s St George’s dragon…and there’s Wormsley’s dragon. Both look a bit fierce but only one of them languishes on a couch, brandishing a cricket bat!
Wormsley Cricket Club’s dragon emblem was born from an original sketch by famed artist and illustrator, Tony Hart, who came up with the half-heraldic, half-cartoon design - kindly donated to us by his daughter Carolyn Ross.
Tony carefully researched the word ‘Wormsley’ for inspiration, realising that ‘worm’ can also be old Norse for ‘dragon’. Considering associated words, he settled on ‘lair’, which is derived from the old English word, ‘leger’, meaning ‘the act or place of lying down: a bed or a couch’.
And there it was. The perfect logo.

The Cracked Egg arguably looks its most exquisite on a day like today, when the sunshine magnifies its vivid colour and reflective beauty.
Created by Jeff Koons from high chromium stainless steel with transparent colour coating, it is the first of five versions, each rendered in a different colour.
Best of all, guests to Wormsley’s Island Pavilion this Summer will have a unique opportunity to dine beside it.

The beautiful clock at the Wormsley Estate Office dates back to 1729 and was installed to mark the hours for the workers out in the fields around the Estate. Thank you to Christopher Gamester, who repaired the clock in 1986 when Sir Paul Getty bought Wormsley. The inner workings needed expert care and attention, but it was still in good order for a piece of machinery created so long ago.Christopher still looks after it twice a year to make sure it keeps perfect time and the chimes can be heard far out across the Wormsley valley. ...#Wormsleyestate #Clockchange #clock #mastercraftsman #artisan

Set in rolling countryside outside Stokenchurch in Buckinghamshire (Jct 5, M40), Wormsley is a private estate and has been home to the Getty Family since 1984. The Estate is first mentioned in official records in 1106, and since 1547 has been in only two families; the Scropes/Fanes and the Gettys.
On moving from London to Buckinghamshire, the late Sir Paul & Lady Victoria Getty embarked on a significant renovation of the Estate over a seven-year period, which was completed in 1992. This involved renovating more than 30 buildings across the Estate and bringing Wormsley House and The Walled Gardens back to life, after years of neglect. This improvement program included some wonderful additions such as the Lake in the Deer Park, the world-renowned Cricket Ground (and the establishment of the Sir Paul Getty XI) and the addition of the castellated Library, which today houses one of the finest private collections of books & manuscripts in the country.
Since 2011, and continuing the Family’s long-standing support of the Arts, the Estate has also been home to Garsington Opera. Architect Robin Snell created a wonderful 600-seat Opera Pavilion located in the Deer Park, near Home Farm, which hosts the two-month long summer opera season.
In 2014, the same architect also designed The Island Pavilion to house some of the Getty family’s sculpture collection – it also provides a perfect location for small gatherings, events and private dining experiences. The Estate’s association with Robin Snell continued through 2016 when he was commissioned to design The Boundary Room, a wonderful hospitality and event space for 300 guests, overlooking the Cricket Ground.
Primarily a private family home, for a limited number of days each year, the Estate provides the perfect canvas for a small number of private individuals and organisations to hold events such as meetings, conferences, private dining experiences, festivals, corporate days (up to 5,000 guests), family days, cricket and country sports days, private parties and weddings.
The beauty of the Estate, its vistas, traditional Chiltern buildings, roads, gardens & woodlands, also makes it an excellent location for commercial TV & Film production.
Since the inaugural cricket match in May 1992, Wormsley has welcomed people to enjoy the Estate - including private individuals and families, corporate guests, from some of the world's greatest cricketers who have played for and against the Sir Paul Getty XI, the artists and Opera-lovers who gather each year for Garsington Opera’s performances in the The Opera Pavilion and bibliophiles and academics who visit the world famous Sir Paul Getty Library.
We are committed to protecting the 900-year history and heritage of this family Estate whilst enabling the wonderful things that Wormsley has to offer to be enjoyed by a wider audience.
