🍓I’m having a little strawberry moment 🍓

One of my favourite plants in the garden, I love their leaf shape, the endlessly cheery little white flowers and of course the strawberry itself.

It’s time to say it…I’m not the florist for you if you want all white 🤍

In the right hands white and very pale neutrals can look amazing, but it’s just not for me.

Colour palettes I LOVE:

🌈 springtime pastels: lilac, delicate shades of pinks and peach, pops of blue

🌈 Italian sunset: soft pinks, oranges, blues and yellow with bright accents

🌈 creamy yellow and tonal blues

🌈 summer sherbert: frothy white with abundant pops of pinks, peach and tangerine

🌈 ALL THE PINK (with or without a splash of red or white)

🌈 PSL: muted toffee, terracotta, burgundy, vintage pink and creamy coffee

🌈 Full goth barbie: velvety purple, red and pink

The list goes on and on and on….but for traditional white I don’t think I’m your gal.

I’m not saying this to be controversial or to but down anyone’s vision. We’re all individuals and your wedding vendors should get you and be as excited as you are for your floral dreams. So I’m laying my cards on the table!!

Exciting News!

I’ve launched another floral offering to go alongside my full design service!

I really wanted to offer playful, whimsical florals to couples who don’t need installations built on site and therefore perhaps don’t meet the usual minimum spend.

The idea is you can choose from the menu, we’ll have a chat around your vision and the vibe of your day and I’ll design your florals to celebrate your individual style. You can then either collect your florals from my studio near Stroud in Gloucestershire, or I can deliver and set up for you.

I love being present for the small squad moments 💫

From the bridesmaids reactions when I first bring the bridal flowers in, to the banter between the men-folk when I’m delivering and pinning buttonholes.

I also really enjoy the chats the following morning, hearing about how the night went when everyone’s feeling just a teeny bit delicate 😅

💫Choosing your wedding florist 💫

My biggest tips:

⚡️find a florist whose style speaks to you. Do they love colour as much as you? Or are they into super classy white and green? Do they love to create a whimsical garden feel or are they all for clean, modern spaces?

⚡️ engage with them! I always try and have an initial consultation, during which we should see if we are a good fit

⚡️ be honest around your budget. The right florist will always try and suggest ideas that feel comfortable for the amount of money you want to spend

⚡️ if you love them book them! Dates get taken quickly and we really hate having to say no to couples!

I’m partial to this kind of close-up!

When designing your personal flowers I carefully consider colour, shape, texture and scent to capture your individual style on the day of your wedding.

This bridal bouquet was full of rich colour and velvety texture with the snakes head fritillary adding interest and just the right level of quirkiness.

It’s getting to that magical time of year where British gardens, roadsides and common land start to come to life. In my garden I absolutely love geums, they’re happy in my heavy clay soil, surrounded by perennial weeds and aren’t even bothered by the constantly marauding slugs.

I use their open, smiley faces in my May and June weddings. You can’t buy them wholesale from the flower market so they bring a touch of whimsical garden character to your wedding flowers.

That includes Gloucestershire, Cirencester and other parts of The Cotswolds, parts of Herefordshire, if you’re not sure if I cover your venue just ask!

Continuing with the prompt I’m considering today is ‘details’.

There are so many details to consider as a floral designer and business owner, some more fun than others (I’m looking at you accounts).

In terms of design I love the tiny details that go into a bridal bouquet, I LOVE texture, wiggly stems and flowers that dance, I use lots of different varieties of flowers to achieve a whimsical, unique bouquet that captures the personality of my bride. I also love a good ribbon and will always mention this in our first call as I just can’t help myself 🙈

I’m taking part in this year, organised by the lovely who is such a warm and inspirational lady.

Why I became a florist?

I started growing flowers in our back garden during Covid, I struggled with my mental health during and post pregnancy, then covid hit and we had a few medical issues with our little boy. Learning about gardening and flowers and how I could connect with nature through growing was such an amazing help to me.

Through growing flowers I found arranging flowers and then wedding and events and I was completely hooked! I’ve always been creative but have never really found an outlet that really suited me, turns out it’s floral design! I now use a mix of imported flowers with local/British grown as the icing on the cake.

This year I’m scaling back the commercial growing to focus on meaningful floral design for weddings and events which means I can re-connect with the amazing health benefits of growing flowers purely for the joy of growing.

Creating an atmospheric entrance to your wedding really sets the mood and energy of your day.

Here we decorated the beautiful entrance sign and created a wildly romantic, rose filled 1/2 arch to frame the doorway. This created a magical feeling before the guests even saw the ceremony room.

Veeeeery close to the first wedding of the year for wild poppy blooms.

This is the stage where I’m finalising my flower order, checking, counting and cleaning bud vases, prepping foam free mechanics, choosing gorgeous silk ribbon….the list goes on!

Definitely full of nervous anticipation as we count the days but can’t wait to create something magical!
