Stonehouse Folk Club

Stonehouse Folk Club The folk club meets in St. Ninian's Church Hall, Vicars Road, Stonehouse, on the 2nd and 4th Fridays

Over the years many well established groups and solo artists have appeared at the club. The club has also given many local singer/songwriters and groups the opportunity to perform and raise their profile on the folk and traditional music circuit. The club has supported many local musical events as well as having ventured further afield and since the recent move to the church hall, the club has thr

ived, bringing better acts and bigger audiences through the doors. The second Friday of the month is usually an act, eg a group or solo artist, and the fourth Friday is a session night so feel free to bring along your instrument and either do a floor spot on the second Friday or just jam along in the session on the fourth (dates may sometimes vary, please see posters and leaflets for any changes to this schedule).

Stonehouse Folk Club (Returns 10 January)

With the turn of another year we welcome back visitors old and new to Stonehouse Folk Club. Established in 1997 after a ‘one off’ traditional music event broadcast live on radio from the ‘Thistle Inn’ in New Street, a Club was soon formed providing regular open sessions and guest appearances throughout the year. The Club moved the ‘Crosskeys Inn’ in Queen Street (now the Back Road) with the ‘Black Bull’ and the ‘Bowling Club’ supporting larger events. However, with changes in the operating license of public houses some years past, the Club was once again on the move to its present location where ‘St Ninian’s Church’ invited us to meet there under threat of closure.

Today the Club thrives in the large church in Vicars Road, providing live entertainment in Stonehouse from September to June every for the past 28 years. During this time the Club have supported numerous charitable causes and organisations in the village and beyond. As well as supporting local talent, the Club has welcomed many artists and bands established in traditional music throughout Scotland, with other Folk Clubs in Quarter and Strathaven providing a strong foundation for live music in Lanarkshire only few miles apart. Although based in traditional music, the Club welcomes a range musical styles including Bluegrass, Americana, Country and Blues.

If you haven’t been before, now is your chance! Despite the cost-of-living crisis and pressure on Club finances, we have endeavoured to keep the cost of entrance as low as we can to encourage everyone to attend. There is no membership costs with the entrance fee being £5 (free for under 16s accompanied by an adult) for guest appearances and only £2 for the open sessions (sing-a-round). The costs are subsidised by a Club raffle generously supported by our patrons. As well as the main act we are always looking for new talent, young and old to provide floor spots at the start of the night. If you can’t play or sing don’t worry, just come along and listen to the nights entertainment and tap yer wellies! If you want to know more about the Club and our activities in the village and beyond, please contact us for further information on future events or like our page.
