Mark Hayden has worked in some of the country’s busiest and most exclusive kitchens up and down the country – from the glamour and glitz of the Savoy Grill to Claridges’ classical surroundings. Now he is working in the Woodland Kitchen combining more than 20 years experience to produce exquisite dishes for those special events – everything from a family celebration to a sumptuous charity banquet – along with his own range of smoked artisan products.

A sad day for the team today, as we say goodbye to a close friend of the kitchen, Geoff Melling. Mark will miss his yearly catch up's at Christmas, which he always came along to with his lovely daughter Sam, collecting all of his products to enjoy over the festive period. Having looked after a couple of events for the family over the years, they are forever VVIP's of The Woodland Kitchen, and we're honoured to have been asked to arrange something extraordinary for them, on what is such a difficult day.

From Mark, Stuart and the rest of the team, our heartfelt condolences to the Melling family, and goodbye to Geoff, a lovely gentleman and friend.

A big thank you to everyone (couples, singles and friends) for making Valentine's such a fantastic night at The Castle Inn! In Chef's own words, 'a cracking evening!' Mark, Suzie, Jo and the team all received a lovely round of applause (and a drink or two), and they would just like to say how kind everyone was, and how much they enjoyed the whole event... thank you for all of your support.

"I had a fantastic time. Lovely people, unbelievable venue, and some amazing food to prepare!" Chef's thoughts on Saturday night, as he and the team looked after a VVIP of , with help from our good friends at Serving Services. We also had some EXTRA special help from an in house sous Chef, which Mark was thrilled with... see if you can spot them...


We had an off menu request for this event, which you'll see below, Thai jumbo river prawn, Tom Yum soup... delicious! Along with one of our classic dishes, chocolate mousse brandy snap basket.

So as we approach the end of 2023, a special little parcel arrived via The Pudding Wagon, from a company we have come to rely on this year, and a big support throughout, Serving Services. Having a resident chocoholic in the kitchen it was a lovely treat... just got to decide where to start! A huge thank you from the team to Phoebe and co at Serving Services, both for the lovely gift and their help all year. And a big thank you to The Pudding Wagon for making them... delicious!

"Food… top notch. Atmosphere… exhilarating." Now that's what we like to hear! Just a couple of comments that we've had recently, as Chef and the team have been busy over the last few weeks. These lovely comments were specifically about our Sunday Roast Extravaganza, and so a big thank you to The Castle Inn for helping make it such a success. On that note, our Pie Night at The Castle Inn on Wednesday 20th is filling up fast, so get in touch and don't miss out!
