Maybe last Friday was meant to happen. A heartwarming update from Rick and Chrissy.

In a crazy world where record companies decide how good your music is by how many Spotify listeners you have, venues work out if they should book you by how many digits your social numbers have and musical success is measured by mathematics not by music, how on earth does a band make a judgement as to the REAL strength of their own fanbase?

Wait until a torpedo hits your boat and then see how many swim out to save you.

I am literally welling up writing this. You’ll probably know our story of how our mixing desk blew up on Friday night on the first chord of the first song of the first date of our UK tour. For a band like us, replacing something like a mixing desk is a colossal expenditure. That’s the price we pay for being 100% independent with no-one to pick up the pieces.

We offered our fans the opportunity to become a k**b on our new desk in return for a donation. I cannot possibly describe the feeling of watching our inbox become flooded with love, gorgeous comments of support and messages from PayPal saying
“You have received money”. There have been 211 of them so far. TWO HUNDRED AND F****** ELEVEN!!!!!

Looking at our new mixer is going to be like looking into the eyes of our darling fans when we look out into the audience. So far we’ve sold 197 of the 209 k**bs, 6 faders and 5 entire channels - so almost the whole of the desk is now sponsored and funded by YOU. Unbelievable. Incredible. And so much more than we ever would have dreamed with many of you paying way more than we asked for the k**b you now own.

We cannot say thank you loud enough, big enough or long enough. Our small piggy bank had been full of money saved for recording the next album and we were thinking it was now inevitable that we would have to spend that money to replace the mixer and keep the tour on the road. But now it’s looking like the mixer AND the new record are both safe and sound.

Thank you YOU and thank you God for coming to our rescue! There are still a few k**bs left and no-one has yet bought my vocal channel (Ch 2) or my bass channel (Ch 4). Of course Chrissy’s vocal channel and her omnichord and pink telecaster channels are long gone but under the circumstances my ego can take it (!!!).

Thank you all one last huge time for confirming that we have the best fanbase in the universe and please…enjoy your k**bs.

We're trying to find a date to reschedule our concert with The Blackheart Orchestra that works for us both. But in the meantime we're sure that some of you will want to do what you can to help Rick and Chrissy replace their mixing desk. All you need to know is in the post below. "Well that didn’t quite go to plan!!
1 minute into The Blackheart Orchestra set at the Ryepiece Barn their mixing desk fused and despite various attempts to resuscitate, it appears to be an ex mixing desk!
THE GOOD NEWS is that ALL of the rest of the Winterspring 24 tour dates WILL GO AHEAD AS PLANNED. The band are borrowing and buying new equipment. PHEW!!
It was such a pity for Chrissy Mostyn and Rick Pilkington but the audience was fantastic and so supportive of their situation. And wow, what a lovely venue.
The best thing that we can do as fans now is to get out and see the band as many times as possible on this tour. Take friends, buy merchandise and help them to recoup this significant, unexpected cost.
If you’ve seen them before then you’ll know what a great live band they are; and if you haven’t, well now’s your chance 😊
