FEBRUARY21st:
AcousticCafeNights@theGranary are delighted to be hosting the very talented Anna Cassidy, Irish singer-songwriter, now based in Glasgow. Willem McKie from QUICK and ‘The Black Denims’ will be accompanying Anna on guitar/mandolin and backing vocals.
Anna began her
musical career performing alongside her parents in
her early teens. Steeped in Irish traditional song
she is also influenced by contemporary singer-
songwriters Kate Bush, Duke Special, Joni Mitchell
and Carole King, which can be heard in her vocals and driving rhythmic piano accompaniments.
While still at school Anna joined the electro-pop band Go Wolf on synth and backing vocals, and
they supported Bastille and The Killers at Tennent’s Vital in Belfast 2014. Anna’s solo journey began
during her time at university in Scotland, when she released her debut 4-track EP ‘Sparks’ in 2016.
Anna’s next release was a home-recorded single ‘Breathe’, released in September 2020 following
the first UK Covid lockdown which landed her in the semi-final of the International Song Writing
Competition 2020. Anna’s second EP ‘All Part of It’ soon followed in April 2021 with a full band line up of strings, percussion, bass and trombone.
Following a stint of living and working abroad after the pandemic, Anna has now returned to Scotland and been performing regularly across the country. Autumn 2024 saw the release of
two new singles ‘The Dog Song’ and ‘I Must Go’, produced by Gus Stirrat at Solas Sound which
have gained radio play on an array of programs including The Iain Anderson Show (BBC Radio
Scotland), The Scots Connection (Celtic Music Radio), and Folkwaves Radio (Hands Up for
Trad).
