Not long now until we celebrate St Beer, Patron Saint of German Beer 🇩🇪 🍺

Born in Baveria, sometime around October, St Beer was well known in the region for his love of beer and of white and blue. Just as well, because if St Beer preferred cider it would be really confusing.

If you’re celebrating Oktoberfest Saturday 21st September to Sunday 6th October - the festival of St Beer - why not sport this tasteful hat? Available in store or online.

We’ve restocked on sparklers ahead of Bonfire Night and Halloween this year. These 45cm crackling sparklers are new in and awesome!

We recommend going to organised displays and you’ll find them at VisitStroud.uk/Fireworks. When you’re celebrating at home, sparklers are a great way to do it, without creating disturbance to wildlife and neighbours.

Okay, this one is far less controversial than the others (phew). New in is this Burger Costume! It is the perfect accompaniment to “Fries” and “Hot Dog” we shared a few days ago 🍔 🍟 🌭

I personally feel they may have overdone the lettuce 🥬 a little in this one (mainly by putting any in at all), but other than that it’s just the ticket if you want to go to a party or celebration as a burger.

I’m no expert in hairy chests (for the record) but I imagine they would look largely the same today. Please don’t share a picture of your hairy chest for reference - this is not a shout-out.

***STROUD SHOP SHOCKS WITH ITEM THAT HAD GONE FOREVER***

Shoppers are shocked and bewildered after a visit to Stroud town centre this week, as a long-lost item has inexplicably returned.

A mixture of amazement and confusion has taken over Threadneedle Street shoppers where beloved sweet treat peddler Confection Affection suddenly started stocking Caramac bars without fair warning.

“I couldn’t believe it!” exclaimed one shopper who was taken aback by the reintroduction. “We’d been told they were discontinued - it was all over the media and everything.”

“What is this? Witchcraft?” commented another, who quickly donned their tinfoil hat in a hope to escape any alien brainwaves that the popular retro treat may be sending out.

“This is unacceptable. We were not given warning of this and it has just appeared, there in front of me, at the till. They need to think more about me and cover these things up!”, added a third as they hurried from the shop to seek out the nearest pea-milk latte and a sit down.

We contacted the shop, who have been trading for almost 17 years, to establish their view on the turmoil they are causing. Not being strangers to controversy, they seemed to have quite a rehearsed response. “Confection Affection takes customer care very seriously. We would like to assure customers that there is no witchcraft involved and that should they see a Caramac bar they should not be alarmed. The reports in the media at the end of 2023 were correct and the bars were discontinued. We have secured this supply as the manufacturers have agreed to make a limited-edition run.” When we pushed on the impact of the chaos they have caused in this shock move, they added “Don’t you think ‘chaos’ is doing a bit of heavy lifting in your statement?”

For several days we have been sharing items from our new Stag Do collection. Some we’re not entirely sure should be worn outdoors and today’s is no exception.

Today … “can you put out a social media post of a costume will a big w***y, please?” I’m not thinking this is the pinnacle of my career to date. This may be my last week 😉 ]

***THREADNEEDLE STREET SHOP SHOCKS FASHION-FOLLOWERS***
Confection Affection, treasured Stroud treat shop that opened its doors almost 17 years ago, has shocked locals by the introduction of something they had not expected.

The Threadneedle Street based retailer is now selling this seasons must-have fashion accessory.

Their new Jute and Hessian bags have a natural look, whilst sporting bright magenta side panels and their iconic logo. In a direct dupe of any other shop who also uses the name, “Stroud” can be seen perfectly placed within the side panel.

The colour scheme is both bold and contemporary, pairing with many different ensembles one may choose whilst on a shopping trip into town.

We asked a fashion expert for their take on this new line. They responded “This has to be the seasons must-have shopping accessory; well made and at a bargain price of £4 for something designed to be timeless. I would pair it with a silk cerise scarf, or maybe magenta pocket handkerchief for a nod to the style of the receptacle.”

Wondering what impact this may have on fashion outlets across the town, we spoke to other shop owners. We were keen to know if they feared a drop in their sales as customers flocked to the confection haven for this new item. The response was mixed and such was the strength of feeling that they asked to remain anonymous. “I like it” commented one. “It would go perfectly with this summer dress. We don’t sell shopping bags, so I don’t think it will impact us”. Another was clearly more concerned: “I don’t work here. I’m just looking at these awesome Blend summer shirts” - brilliantly disguising their true feelings on the matter.

With such a level of concern brewing, we contacted the store for their view on the situation they had caused. Playing down their involvement, they responded “We’ve had it in mind to commission these bags for quite a while. We’re not at all concerned about making it clear we are in Stroud - it’s where our shop is so it made sense. We know our customers value quality items and that extends to their choice of bag - something that is designed to last and yet kinder on the environment than some alternatives.”
