Congratulations to Susan Ayres, Eric Catton, and all at the Patient Partnership Group Hardwicke House Practice (thats a mouthful) for pulling off a really successful Health Awareness Day today!

We had around 300 visitors despite the monsoon rain, including hearing assistance dogs and other furry friends, with entertainment from Happy Sounds Choir singing for wellbeing.

Thanks to all that gave their time to highlight the many health and wellbeing organisations available to the community.

PWYCA LUNCHTIME CONCERTS ARE BACK 🎵 on Thursdays so you can pop to too!

We’re working in collaboration with the inimitable maestro Roger Green, bringing together a selection of musicians who give their time and talents so you can enjoy their music on an affordable basis. The recitals are essentially free of charge, but if you can make a donation based on ‘pay what you can afford’ it would be really appreciated.

All are welcome to come and enjoy getting away from work or the busy-ness of life to listen to some live music and enjoy the space.

Our cafe will be open too so you can enjoy a spot of lunch or a cuppa/drink.

(*Please don’t bring food/drink in as we rely on cafe sales to support what we do). 🫶🏼

Fabulous review from Pete Woodman at of the Under the Surface gig and the beautiful film shown here last Friday. We’re still thinking about the whole amazing evening and were sad to wave goodbye to artwork and sculpture today. Really hope to collaborate again with these guys sometime.

Under the Surface at Sudbury Arts Centre — Under the Surface (Joost Lijbaart, Bram Stadhouders, Sanne Rambags)(Sudbury Arts Centre. 21 June 2024. Review by Pete Woodman) This was special. In the magnificently restored former St Peter’s Church, the Dutch improvising trio Under the Surface presented a multi-media event of extraordinary power and beauty. Their music is inspired by folk, jazz, classical music and the musical traditions of the many countries they have visited. Joost Lijbaart (percussion), Bram Stadhouders (guitar & electronics) and Sanne Rambags (voice, harmonium, percussion) formed Under the Surface nine years ago and have since performed improvised concerts all over the world. Meet Pete! 🐦‍⬛Since creating a slightly wilder environment in the graveyard, we’ve seen lots more bird activity including Pete and his missus who seem to be nesting with us. Pete is very friendly and quite tame and between them they make some lovely songs. 🎵

On sunny days when we are open, we’re unlocking the graveyard for you to sit on the new benches and enjoy the space. You might see Pete or hear the swifts we have nesting in the bell tower, as they swoop and scream in formation. It’s shady and cool on these hot days too. 😎🪭

All we ask is if you plan to sit there with refreshments please buy your drinks or ice cream from us to support what we do! 🍨🥤☕️

Thank you!

We’re open today with our cafe from 10 till 3. We have the organ builders in doing some maintenance and tuning so you might hear them noodling the notes.

Looking at the work they are doing, its like a step back in time. Wooden handled screwdrivers are a must. You can see some complex components of the organ that are usually hidden away and if you look closely you can see the corresponding notes for each pipe stamped onto the wood.

If you are an organist *pssst* or a pianist that would like to have a play on it let us know. (Not today obviously)…

We’re so here for this. Last week, visitors to the arts centre were randomly treated to hearing Sinfonia Viva and local musicians rehearsing for a project we’re collaborating on with Orchestras Live

Adults with learning disabilities will come together with people living with dementia, and residents of Sudbury care homes, to perform a very special concert at the end of July, helping to bring the highest quality of music to those that otherwise really wouldn’t have the opportunity to participate at this professional level.

We are very grateful to the Arts Council and Babergh cllrs who have helped to fund this magical project. If you’d like to contribute as a sponsor please get in touch and we’d be very happy to pick up that conversation. Perhaps you can help fund the printing of the programme, or contributing ££ towards the overall project cost. Any help is gratefully received. We want to do much more of this kind of work, but can only do that with your continued support.

Repost from

At each of the songwriters’ circle sessions, I set a prompt for the next month. Just a word or a phrase to kick start the creative juices. I figured I would start sharing these here as well.

The next Sudbury session will be on the 07th July at and the next Colchester session will be on the 11th of July at

Were you at our hustings last night? If you were you know that, just for fun, we took an exit poll asking audience members who they thought they would vote for after hearing the candidates speak.

Well, it was a very close call and quite surprising - we even had to do a recount!

From an audience of 95 people:

1) Emma Bishton (LAB) - 25 votes
2) Tom Bartleet (LD)- 24 votes
3) Jessie Carter (GRN)- 21 votes
4) Beverley England (RFM) - 9
5) James Cartlidge (CONS) - 5
2 undecided

🙈

If you are interested in hearing the candidates speak, we did film the hustings and will share a link soon!

All tickets have now been allocated and no tickets will be available on the door!

We have restricted numbers to 100 as we rely on volunteers to help steward and to keep it manageable.

All being well we are hoping to record the event for those that are unable to attend. TBC

We look forward to a positive and enjoyable evening for our candidates and audience.

If you didn’t see here last night you missed a really magical evening. Such a talented songwriter and singer who had us totally in the palm of her hands, and used the beautiful acoustics in the chancel to go unplugged for a couple of songs.

We recommend that you catch Carter next time she tours the UK as we were the last stop before she heads home to Oklahoma. Safe journey Carter and please come back again!

A lovely creative mood here today. Artwork went up for the multimedia event on the 21st including large format prints and amazing sculpture which we’ll share tomorrow. This artwork is all by Mark Wilkinson, who well known for illustrating album and merch art for Iron Maiden, Marillion, The Darkness and many more.

Our lovely Stitch n Sip group were in at the same time, busy making more Sudbury silk poppy seed heads. Lovely vibes in the cafe too.

We’re closed until 10am tomorrow but if you’re looking for something to do this evening why not pop to where there is a danceathon raising much needed money for the local charity supporting people experiencing domestic abuse. They’d love your support! ❤️

🌼🌼🌼 We’ve planted up the planters outside our front door after a little wander around fab The Garden Nursery, Constitution Hill ! We had lots of compliments from passersby when we were working out there earlier, and we can’t wait to watch them fill out.

The planters have helped to provide a lovely ‘patio’ area which we’ll have a few tables and chairs on so you can buy a treat from our cafe and watch the world go by. Can someone please turn the sunshine on though! 🥶

We’ve got a little band of green fingered volunteers starting to help look after the planting and graveyard, so if you’d like to be involved please get in touch. We have some lovely wildlife too, including pipistrelle bats and swift boxes in the tower, we’ve spotted a little wren in the graveyard, and of course plenty of bees and other insects in our bug houses painted by the students.

There’s cake and tea, training, researching, and even maybe a little trip out to visit other gardens for inspiration! Did we mention cake? We’d love to hear from you.

St Peter’s is a welcoming cultural and community venue at the heart of Sudbury that provides enriching social experiences.

St Peter’s is not only a prominent landmark, it is also Sudbury’s main venue for large events. It is already well used for a range of activities, but with leaking roofs, inadequate kitchen/bar space, and lack of toilets, the long-term use of the building is uncertain. It is in need of urgent repairs and new facilities, along with an expanded and enhanced program of activities and events to make it sustainable for future generations.

The project to regenerate the building has secured initial support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and work is now well underway to develop plans for its transformation to:

  • Undertake urgent repair work to ensure the historic fabric is preserved.

  • Create a venue that meets the 21st century needs of Sudbury’s expanding community. Crucially this will involve ensuring that the venue is accessible for all.
  • Nearby event planning services
