One of the plaster plaques that hangs in the Community House is cracked and needs a repair before it can be hung again. Does anyone know of a professional that can do this? Please contact Kathy Miller on 2775615090. Thanks

Owing to drainage works in August we are unable to take any further bookings from the 1st to 26th August. The same will apply when the roof is replaced, this work is due to be carried out from 26th September and will continue through until the end of the year.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

News from the Community House
The initial lifting of the Covid restrictions in 2021 encouraged us to commission an extensive Fire Safety Report resulting in the installation of an integrated Fire Alarm System and other improvements to the safety features of the House.
In September 21 we eventually obtained planning permission from BDC to change the roof to one of natural slate. Fortunately they did not insist that we use Welsh slate which is considerably more expensive than the Spanish variety which is nevertheless guaranteed for 100 years. Quotations were sought from three companies but when they eventually arrived just before Christmas they were found to be far too expensive so we were obliged to start again.
In the meantime insurers appointed builders at last got to grips with repairing the subsidence damage to the front of the House. Previous investigations had shown tree roots to be the probable cause of the damage so trees near the House have been removed or pruned and hopefully the chance of repetition of subsidence is substantially reduced. Insurers require that the pruning process is carried out every three years. The new roof will necessitate a dedicated rainwater drainage system leading away from the House whereas rain currently falls off the roof, down the walls to the foundations encouraging the roots of trees to grow towards the House especially during dry spells when the ditches dry up.
Contracts have been awarded to Shuttlewood Roofing and Peter Trew Ltd for aspects of the roof replacement. Work on the new drains is scheduled for August and the main work on the roof will commence at the end of September and take a month or two during which time use of the House will be restricted.
Our fund raising efforts have been a little more successful with grants obtained from the Garfield Weston Foundation, the Community Initiatives Fund (E C C) and the Fowler Smith and Jones Foundation. Other applications are in the pipeline. Together with funds built up over many years we have sufficient to complete the scheduled work but need to raise some more to cover contingencies and the probable need to redecorate the outside of the House as we suspect removing the 60 year old thatch will be a rather messy job.
