Come and join us for our first film down at 17Nineteen. We're delighted to be screening this film by Carol Morley, depicting a fictionalised portrait of the late "avant-garde and misunderstood" Sunderland artist Audrey Amiss (played by Monica Dolan alongside Kelly Macdonald).

We're also excited to be joined by Bojangles Ukes, also featured in the film, who will be treating us to a short set ahead of the screening.

Amiss studied at the Royal Academy of Arts, but was unable to complete her training after being hospitalised due to mental illness. She died in 2013, leaving behind a vast collection of artworks and writings which were discovered after her death, and subsequently donated posthumously to Wellcome Collection.

The film features several scenes filmed in Sunderland, including the street that 17ninenteen sits on.

Is it Friday yet? This week we are bringing back Lindsay Hannon, a firm favourite of ours, to perform a variety of blues and blues inspired classic songs by artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Etta James, Robert Johnson, Irma Thomas and Tom Waits all with Lindsay's signature twist.

Lindsay is supported by the fantastic Alan Law on Piano and Paul Graingher on bass - no strangers to the Old Black Cat stage. Get yourself along and support grass roots music at the city's only dedicated Jazz programme of events in a historic venue now entering the next chapter in its story.
