This solemn day brought together veterans, active servicemen and women, and families who have lost loved ones to honour those who served and sacrificed. Held against a backdrop of Sunderland’s historic sites, the atmosphere was charged with reverence and quiet reflection. The early morning saw crowds gather at Mowbray Park, adorned with poppy wreaths, and veterans in their well-kept uniforms stood alongside younger attendees, bridging generations through shared respect. Our cameras focused not just on the larger ceremonial events but also on the quieter moments — the father explaining the significance of his medals to his young son, an elderly woman wiping away tears as she laid a wreath, and the poignant silence that stretched across the crowd as Sunderland fell still for the two-minute remembrance. We also captured the voices and perspectives of those attending, taking care to record the speeches who each shared their unique connection to this day. For the new documentary series, the day represents more than just remembrance; it’s a reflection of how communities continue to hold onto tradition and honour history.
