Scout's honour 🙋

A new blue plaque has been unveiled at The Fire Station to commemorate the beginning of the global Scouts Movement.

The plaque, presented by the Lord-Lieutenant of Tyne & Wear Lucy Winskell OBE and Ben Hodgkiss, UK Contingent Leader for the Scouts, commemorates the site where, in 1908, Lt. Gen. Robert Baden-Powell inspected what is believed to be the first official Scout troop in the world, Vaux Own Scout Group.

The blue plaque will be affixed to the front entrance of The Fire Station building in the coming weeks so that Scouts and the general public can visit the site.

🎙️ A Night of Sinatra Magic 🎙️

Get yourselves along to The Fire Station on Saturday, the 1st of March 2025 at 7:30pm for a night of timeless classics as Joseph O’Brien pays tribute to the one and only Frank Sinatra. Fresh from The Rat Pack Live in Concert, Joseph’s smooth vocals and captivating performance will transport you straight to the golden age of swing, Hollywood glitz, and Vegas charm.

Backed by a seven-piece swing band, expect an evening packed with Sinatra’s biggest hits in a spectacular show you won’t want to miss.

Doors open at 7:00pm (subject to change). Tickets start from £27, and under-14s must be accompanied by an adult.

"BBC Introducing has launched its first region-wide partnership with the north-east of England in the hope of creating more opportunities for musicians.

The Glasshouse Centre for International Music in Gateshead, The Fire Station in Sunderland and Middlesbrough Town Hall will host musicians to play live, record and develop ideas directly to the BBC Introducing platform."

The initiative will provide development opportunities for local musicians including live gigs.
