Novice and Intermediate are national qualifying levels where horses can win points and qualify for national championships. They also qualify to compete internationally by entering this level. This means we see entrants from amateur one-horse riders to multi-horse owners and international/Olympic riders looking to qualify their horses or gain experience. The event is free admission for cars/people.

A new approach to the water for the BE100s this year, this hedge precedes a turn which will help the greener or spookier horses to sit up and get ready for the punt, which in previous years has needed a good kick! Ground is good with a good soaking over the weekend and we are ready for 3 days of action!

New location for Intermediate log double this year will help prevent people cutting the corner before the water! And the below is part of our canal system at Swallowfield Park which was installed in the 18th century to irrigate the park! It doesn't work any more but we can tell how the ground will ride by how much water is in it - in this case the top of the ground may walk firm but there is plenty of give underneath.

What a wonderful three days of Eventing we had. We may have found a new phase to be included in the pre-dressage arena preparations!!

Michele Hill and Terrygreehan Dempsey navigate the BHS Road Safety Memorial. This fence commemorates four beloved event horses lost in a lorry crash last August belonging to Nick Gauntlett and Sophie Hulme, whilst broken down on the way to Blair Horse Trials. We will be making a donation to the road safety campaign in honour of their memory.

This fence caused a few issues, the feedback from the riders who had a problem was that they under-estimated the "revs" needed at the top of the mound and underrode, then meaning they had to scrub at the top of the mound and got too close to the V. Demonstrated below the fence rode well with maintained power to the V and horses could choose 3 or 4 strides down the slope with equal success. The iron stone on landing helped with grip and shortening, rewarding the bolder rider. However with rain all evening so far tomorrow is another day! Good luck to the Novices and Ints tomorrow!
