The Dorset town of Swanage contains dozens of quirky old bits of London

Fundraising for the Loft Community Centre comes from the recycling and sale of donated items at the Emporium and the Old Forge.

Also recently @61 in the High Street, where there's an area dedicated to analogue and early digital stereo equipment, including stack systems, CD players, vinyl turntables and speakers, all safety checked and cleaned.

Also 45's, cassettes, portable radios and PA amplifiers and much more.

Happy New Year to everyone!

We shall continue to fight back against the Forces of Darkness with our blend of humour, determination and chaos, hoping for your continued support and indulgence!

2024 will, of course, be remembered for being the year that Mickey Mouse entered the public domain...

One cannot think of Mickey, Minnie et al without remembering the name of Walt Disney, but who recalls the splendidly named Ub Iwerks, who drew the mouse originally?

There's a strong rumour that the Loft will be having its regular lunchtime feast on Wednesday, for those jaded palates.

There's also a rumour that it will stay open for as long as people come in, maybe with a game or two, the usual scintillating nonsense and even some music and film.
Come along, bring whatever you like.

Lunch is on as usual tomorrow Weds 13th December, 12:30-2pm for food, tea coffee and chat continue until 4pmDecember, baked potatoes with vegetarian/vegan side dishes

Stop giving money to the CEO of Spotify and actually give it to the artists themselves for all their hard work. Buy physical media from them. Support them. Cherish being able to hold it, the new smell when opened, actually sitting and reading the lyrics and liner notes, and having ownership of something that exists.

After a break, during which your appetites for quality cinema were hopefully satiated by the excellent Purbeck Film Festival, our Film Nights are back!

On this Friday 24th, we offer you Frank Capra's 1934 "It Happened One Night", the multi-Oscar winning, best romantic comedy ever made, starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert.

Released just before implementation of the Hayes Code, the sight of Clark Gable's bare torso in the bedroom scene inspired American would-be heartthrobs to abandon undervests, leading to a marked decline in the sales of such garments...

Doors open at 1900, film starts at 1930, you're welcome to BYOB for which we supply glasses; tea and coffee available.

Tickets on the night, £3/£2 concessions, 100% goes to support the Loft Community Centre.

This person on social media makes a very good point, with a healthy dose of sarcasm.
How does one ensure ongoing access to loved films, music and literature, our "media"?

"The Cloud", touted as the ultimate digital solution to all storage needs is, all said and done, just someone else's computer.
"Streaming" services are fine until the streamer decides not to stream what you want (See Kindle's deletion policy) and you're content to give some unhinged American billionaire a monthly tribute for ever...

Hard copy is the answer, CD's and DVD's, played on recycled analogue hardware, both of which, coincidentally enough, are available in Swanage.
