DECEMBER 2022 NEWSLETTER
The 37th Swanage Blues Festival 2-5 March 2023
NEW CENTRAL VENUE
We are delighted to announce that the Showbar and Taproom at the The Mowlem Theatre, located in the heart of Swanage, overlooking the bay, has joined Swanage Blues Festival! The venue has utterly magnificent views, lots of space, a disabled toilet and lift. We thank the trustees, management and staff of The Mowlem Theatre for all their efforts to create such a tremendous asset for the community, and to enable us to include The Showbar on our support wristband trail for the 37th Swanage Blues Festival in March 2023.
A Mowlem Theatre spokesperson said: "We are over the moon to announce we will be a part of the Swanage Blues Festival in 2023! We want to thank Steve and Nico for giving us this opportunity to be part of such a fantastic weekend!"
Please support this new venue by sampling their wares and seeing some of the four bands who will be playing there (details later). Success with the Showbar may well lead to us securing the Theatre itself in the future (approx 380 capacity).
The Centre acoustic concert venue has another tremendous programme, thanks to Mark Stasiuk of Bletchley Blues Club and Festival - he's such an asset to the festival and we all appreciate him very much.
We are sourcing other small places to add to the variety and demand for playing opportunities, with hopefully news of another new, very exclusive venue joining in from 2023..... watch this space!
ARTISTS
I'm currently compiling the jigsaw of talent that is a Swanage Blues Festival, so full details are not yet available. There'll be some of the regulars you love plus new names on the bill. Thomas Heppell and Isobel Thatcher Duo will be having their own slots as a result of their excellent contributions at Open Mic and Jam Sessions over the years. Jaycee Sarah and Rod will be offering some dancing sessions - a SBF first. You may have already seen them at a festival or if you are a Facebook fan on the public groups: 'Blues In Bournemouth' or 'Shots from The Swanage Blues Festival'. Well worth a look.
Andy Bradshaw is back by public demand hosting the open mic sessions at the Red Lion. Pete Harris, Robin Bibi, Jon Walsh & Ray Drury, Chicago 9 Rhythm n Blues Band and The Fabulous Duck Brothers are back too. This list is not exhaustive, more to come of course.
WRISTBANDS AND PROGRAMMES
You will be able to place your orders for these in January. We had previously considered raising the cost of wristbands to £15 for the weekend back in 2022, but were worried about affordability to all. However, with ever increasing costs, we would now like to ask those of you who are able, to pay £15 per wristband from the March 2023 onwards. If you're struggling, continue to pop £10 in as before. This will ensure we can keep covering the basic costs of running the festival in its current form.
Any enquiries to me in confidence via the enquiry form on the website please. You can use that for anything you want to say about the last festival too.
