We are creating a brand new show that celebrates the world of Tribute acts. ‘Even Better Than the Real Thing’ (working title) will see a number of world class tribute acts performing on Saturday night primetime BBC1. The show is a joyful celebration of the greatest music moments performed by some of the world’s greatest Tribute artists.
The show is to coincide with Radio 1 and 2’s 50 years of music and will feature acts from across the past 5 decades performing in front of a live studio audience.
With the help of the best Tributes on the circuit, we want to make the impossible possible, resurrecting past legends as well as creating incredible duets between artists that you never expected – where else will we get to enjoy Ed Sheeran and Whitney Houston singing together to Shape of You?!
In this feel good family entertainment show, we will see up to 20 different acts and while all acts will feature in our medley style opening, 5 of the acts will perform and compete to be named as the best performance of the night. The other 15 acts will take up residency on set to become our all star panel to give their insider knowledge of what it is to perform as the world’s most loved performers. The show will have a celebrity judging panel who will critique (always positively) the 5 performances but ultimately our studio audience will vote for their favourite act of the night. This show really isn't about the competition – all of the acts on stage are winners as they are being billed as the greatest.
The show is a broadcast pilot with a strong view to creating a full Saturday night, primetime series that could potentially see the non-competing acts return to our screens in the New Year as possible competitors.
I was just wondering if such a programme would be of interest to any of your tribute artists?
There is no fee for appearances on the show but we will be able to cover costs of travel and accommodation once acts have been signed up to appear on the show. These costs would be agreed prior to engaging any acts in the full show. The show is taking a prime slot in the BBC Summer schedule and with the link to BBC Radio 1 and 2, and a large audience of music lovers is expected.
