Our newly built, contemporary venue, is set in the Wiltshire village of Broad Hinton, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We serve the communities of Broad Hinton, Uffcott & Winterbourne Bassett, If you'd like to keep up to date with what's going on in the three villages, like our page and sign up to our monthly newsletter by emailing [email protected]. We also hire the venue to

people from a wider area; with competitive hiring rates, it’s a great alternative to a hotel. Within easy reach of Swindon and M4 junctions 15 & 16, we’ve hosted a number of weddings and parties, all of which have looked incredible. The venue has a large main hall which holds 150 theatre style and over 100 seated diners. Also in the main hall there’s a stage and dressing room. In addition, there’s a separate meeting room which seats around 30 café style and is really great for using as a quiet area, separate from the main hall. Finally there’s a well-equipped, modern kitchen and bar. Come along and view any time, just get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to show you around.

How can you help keep BHVH at the Heart of the Community?

Kate Nye benefits from a couple of paid days from her employer to do voluntary work. She’s going to use one of them to update and improve our policies and procedures.
Damian Le Gresley's employer agreed to reduced hours so he can use some of the time for voluntary work. He manages BHVH's maintenance requirements and the tradespeople and volunteer team who do it.
Does your employer give you volunteer days? Why not use it to help BHVH?

Please contact us on [email protected] or chat to Nick Moakes (07918 630 712) or Mark Miller (07830 395 605).

We are testing and monitoring a new approach to the Village Hall heating. In the meantime, please do not touch the heating controls to attempt to change the temperature. More details below.

We work hard to use the resources of BHVH in the way that best serves our community. This includes managing finances carefully and making sure the main hall and John Hutchings room are comfortable for all users. One of our biggest expenditures is on heating and it’s particularly important to manage this effectively, especially as the outside temperatures begin to drop.

As you know, the current system is an old Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP). We are experimenting with different settings to maintain a constant temperature of 18-20C in both rooms when the hall is in use. The system is now set with weather compensation enabled, so it adjusts the temperature of the radiators up and down according to outside temperature. This will mean the radiators might feel cooler than you would expect when the outdoor temperature is mild.

This will minimise stress on the old ASHP by avoiding running it on maximum output for short periods of time. We hope this means the old one will continue without needing any new parts, until we can replace it with a new, modern ASHP. This is how the new system will be setup to run, so getting used to this in advance is useful.

We have been monitoring the system for the last week or so, thanks to the installation of some remote thermometers which allow us to track the temperature in the rooms every hour. We are also manually taking periodic electricity meter readings to approximately assess the impact of running the heat pump in this way.

While this new approach is being tested and monitored, please do not touch the heating controls to attempt to change the temperature. This includes switching the heating off completely, advancing the controls in the plant room, or adjusting radiator settings in a room. We have also removed the plug-in radiators from the John Hutchings room as we don’t believe they are necessary with this new approach and they are less efficient than the ASHP.

We will soon be installing a visual thermometer in the main hall so users can see what the current temperature is, as different people will experience the same temperature differently. What you can do to help us with this process, is to let us know by emailing [email protected] if you find the temperature too hot or cold during your visit over the winter months, with the time and date you were in the hall. If you were hiring the main hall, it is helpful to let us know what the temperature was on the visual thermometer, but don’t worry if you forgot to note it down as we can look it up based on time and date.

Many thanks for your co-operation.

Nick Moakes joined us recently as a trustee. Nick brings vast business experience and a wealth of local knowledge. He has previously been a BHVH trustee and was instrumental in the process of replacing the 1963 BHVH with this one.

Jo Smith has sadly resigned. Jo has been a vital trustee of BHVH since she joined in 2021. Amongst other projects, she played a key part in moving our hirings onto the digital platform Lemon Bookings and has since, single-handedly carried out the admin required. Her contribution will be greatly missed, thank you Jo.

What Happens Next?
• Nick Moakes will become Chair
• Mark Miller will work as Vice-Chair with Nick
• Sue Robinson will be responsible for hiring admin, relinquishing her role as Secretary, which she has tirelessly carried out for many years.
• Kate Marshall will become Secretary
• Kate Nye will remain Treasurer
• Sarah Kromer will continue as Charity Commission contact
• Adam Gilmore remains our Parish Council rep trustee

These seven BHVH trustees will continue to keep your Village Hall at the heart of our community.
