in the old Oakengates Market Hall (built 1826) near Telford, West
Midlands.

Pale Fire Music and Left For Dead Records are Not-for-Profit promoters working with Firefly owner Scott Adams to deliver a Community Music Project supporting original live music. The Firefly has stage lighting and a projection system over the stage which is 6.2m wide 3.3m deep 0.84m high. Pale Fire Music have their own 4.7Kw sound system purchased
on their behalf by Forge Urban Revival via a commu

nity grant. Because of the age of the Market Hall building, the first floor of
the Firefly can only be accessed via a staircase, and the same
applies to the balcony seating. The Firefly is a 3-minute walk from Oakengates Train Station in
Telford (Birmingham to Shrewsbury Line) and only 2.5 miles by
car from junction 5 on the M54.

Black Helium are a three-piece psychedelic rock band who fearlessly traverse aural hallucinatory soundscapes; from detuned Neanderthal rock to deep oceans of introspective blissed out psych.

Codex Serafini are a Saturnian Ritualistic band hailing from outer-space, currently passing through Earth and temporally residing in Sussex.

Black Doldrums, with Fallen Horse, at the Firefly (Telford) on Friday Nov 8th.
North London-based group Black Doldrums deal in a dark, shoegazing psych that melds gothic post-punk with a leather-clad rock’n’roll spirit. They have attracted praise from the likes of Clash Magazine, New Noise Magazine, Louder Than War, Shindig and more.
Birmingham based Fallen Horse draw on genres ranging from Americana to Scandi-noire.
Their lyrical and musical influences flow from Patti Smith, Nick Cave, Tori Amos incorporating folk based artists such as Michael Chapman and Smoke Fairies.

The Thing, with Ocean Ivy, at the Firefly (Telford) on Saturday Oct 5th.
The Thing is a four piece from New York City. Over the years they have honed their craft, self recording and writing songs influenced by 60’s pioneers such as the Kinks, Grand Funk Railroad, and artists of The Nuggets Compilation. As they progressed in skill and knowledge the band started to envision a career inspired by the likes of Brian Jonestown Massacre, King Gizzard, and The Black Keys.
Ocean Ivy exists to build an ethereal dreamscape to counterbalance the harsh concrete brutality of Birmingham that surrounds them. Incorporating the explosive beats of Buddy Rich, the wisdom and words of Jack Kerouac, and the harmonic guitar lines of Big Thief, the Birmingham-based 5-piece are embarking on a journey to spread their word around the world.

Black Helium are a three-piece psychedelic rock band based in London. Never afraid to stray from the beaten path, Stuart Gray Beck Harvey and Diogo Gomes fearlessly traverse aural hallucinatory soundscapes; from detuned Neanderthal rock to deep oceans of introspective blissed out psych.
Codex Serafini are a five-piece band originated in Sussex, England. Does the name come from the Codex Serafinian, the illustrated encyclopaedia of an imaginary world? It seems probable but we can’t say for sure. Either way, this unique group, a Saturnian Ritualistic band, deserves a unique description.

Another great night of original live music at the Firefly. Thanks to all who attended - a sell out!
Ted Chippington opened with his idiosyncratic anti-comedy set, intriguing (or bemusing) the audience.
The Nightingales played a stonker, mesmerising the crowd from start to finish.

For the Nightingales gig at the Firefly tomorrow. Pre-gig, the Crown Pub (a few yards from the Firefly) have a Beer Festival on selling a large selection of Real Ales and European bottled beers. Firefly doors open at 7:30pm, Ted Chippington on at 8:30pm, Nightingales on at 9:30pm with show closing at 10:30pm, time for post gig drinks and to catch trains home. Oh yeah.

Hello,
Ted Chippington announced as Nightingales support act. Chippington avoids observational comedy in favour of anti-humour and jokes which are mostly variations on the same theme, delivered in a West Midlands monotone. He also frequently performs his own versions of well-known songs in a similarly listless style. His act has left audiences bemused or hostile, with heckling a frequent occurrence during his performances.
His deadpan style has won him a small number of devoted followers. Comedian Stewart Lee has often cited Chippington as the reason he began stand-up comedy, describing Chippington's act as "a mixture of surrealism and insolent provocation and uncompromising boredom" and citing him as "the first post-alternative comedian". Another admirer, Richard Herring, talks of Chippington's "contempt for the very idea of jokes".

So that was Christmas. In February Pale Fire Music want you to hear Unit 47, a five-piece indie rock band from the West Midlands of England.
Led by the powerful and emotive vocals of Tommy Wright, the band features Harry Lawrence on lead guitar, Jack Richards on rhythm guitar, Jake Foster on bass, and Alex Caden on drums.
Playing only original music, they draw inspiration from a wide range of musical influences, from Oasis, Arctic Monkeys and The Verve to Motley Crüe and Guns ‘n’ Roses.
