I can’t emphasise the importance of music and singing with the elderly and especially those with dementia!
Dementia removes the most recent memories first and then works its way backwards so it’s very common for those living with Dementia to have no idea who you are or what they did this morning but play a song from the 60s or even 40s and they’ll not only remember every word but will be transported back in time, evoking all kinds of memories. 💗
It’s so beautiful to be a part of and never gets old.
If you have the opportunity to sing to someone please do! You don’t have to be a perfect singer to make a difference, it’s all about the shared experience and being the conduit that helps them access special times gone by.

Always so much fun to be had at Windmill house!
When I arrived they were having a “warm up”. The fantastic staff were singing and dancing and the residents were having so much fun joining in.
I’d say the residents are very fortunate to live here!

Today I received these beautiful Roses and carnations from Ros and Co at the Albert Myhill community centre in Dereham.
Massive well done to Ros for organising this event to raise funds for this worthy cause.

Brogan and Laura-Lee had organised a summer party for the Dementia cafe at the Boundary Pub Norwich. It was such a pleasure to be invited along to sing for them all. This group really enjoys their music! Mick was reluctant to get up and dance at first but once he did, he didn’t sit back down until the end. Many others then followed suit.
A massive well done to Brogan, Laura-Lee and the other carers/helpers that bring this group together every month! 🌟

Sadly most of the care homes I visit I can’t share photos due to privacy rules but I can share this.
Peter from Linden court, a vibrant, fun & very musical resident draws me pictures or makes me cards when I visit, this is my second gift from Peter and I just love how thoughtful and kind he is!
He may well be my biggest fan! 😄🤍
