Set in picture-postcard Sussex countryside, The Curlew is a Grade II listed former coaching inn with white clapboard façade and views across the fields. Our inspiration for The Curlew stemmed from our very own experiences gathered around a table with our loved ones. We shared the food, laughed loud, poured wines and beer and someone was always pulling up a seat. We wanted to create a space that can be just that to everyone. We encourage to order for the table, try a bit of everything, and focus on celebrating nothing in particular.
P.S Don't hesitate getting seconds.
Owned and run by Will Devlin, 2020’s 'Chef To Watch' by The Good Food Guide, The Curlew is Will’s second restaurant alongside The Small Holding. Just eight miles away, The Small Holding team grows their our own produce, home-rears Berkshire Pigs, and forages from the forest nearby. Of course, to keep it all in the family, most of our produce comes from The Small Holding farm.
“Growing our own produce brings an understanding and honesty back to the kitchen, and vital freshness. Making the most of our harvests when the ingredients are at their prime - whilst also preserving and conserving them to use throughout the year, keeps us concentrated on the natural cycle of the land and helps us to create full flavoured and imaginative dishes.” -Will Devlin
LOVING OUR REGION.
The rest of our produce is sourced hyper-locally from the best producers, fishermen, wineries and breweries. Our menus are respectful of season; and all butchering, pickling, baking, preserving, and curing is done on site. With Sussex being the heart of English wine production, we source our wines from some of England’s leading wineries, and offer beers made with heritage hops and water filtered from the South Downs. We thought - Why go far when this is all on our doorstep?
