We can’t wait for this author talk! The secret life of the traditional hedge revealed. Come with your questions and comments on all things hedge related. Refreshments available.

'From the end of summer until the birds nest in the spring, he maintains the ancient boundaries of the British countryside.

He lives in his wagon, as many itinerant farm workers used to, and travels the south-west corner of England, restoring an important but often forgotten part of our country. Hedgerows are a living structure, woven into the fabric of rural life, a vital aspect of man’s partnership with nature. As traditional management techniques are lost to modernisation, hedges have declined dramatically.

Paul works alone and by hand to rejuvenate these linear woodlands, saving the homes of the wildlife that rely on them and bringing many other ecological benefits. Following the rhythm of the seasons, Of Thorn & Briar describes Paul’s life on the road and the practical aspects of his job. It is about practising a craft with skill, preserving our heritage for future generations and celebrating the glory of the landscape he’s spent his life caring for.'

Meet Paul Lamb at Ashley Court, April 5th at 3pm.

And here is a post with link to videos explaining some of the techniques used in constructing these amazing garments!

For those who have the new book ( and everybody else who needs the infor too!) - a few techniques explained on the video - inserting bust gores, making rouleaux, cording etc.

They are all explained in the book step by step, but sometimes it is easier to see the process!

Huge excitement to receive a copy of this exceptional book. It is an incredible resource for all Regency dressmakers, historians and of course, Jane Austen fans! Many of the photographs were shot at Ashley Court and it is so lovely to see the house graced by these stunning Prior Attire period garments. Izabela Pitcher's research is meticulous and her practical approach and understanding of how real women dressed in the past is second to none.
Now I feel an Austentatious event coming on this summer….. a ball, a picnic, a literary evening? Ideas in comments please! (Shall we make our own dresses?)

Go go go to this fabulous night of music and joy!

We are so excited for our upcoming ¡Noche Latina! on Saturday, February 15th at the lovely Kaleider Studios on 45 Preston Street in central Exeter (just parallel to Fore Street near Stepcote Hill).

It's an amazing space, and we are really looking forward to celebrating some post-Valentine's Day love with all of you!

Lumi Centurión Segovia will be our MC for the night, keeping you singing and dancing to all your favourite Latin American music, with 'La Bandita' for some awesome live music.

The margaritas and mojitos will be flowing and we'll have beer/wine/cider/ cold drinks for purchase.

As we have had to move out of our beloved space at Daily Bowl, we are very grateful that we can continue Noche Latina at a new location, so PLEASE support us by snagging your ticket through the link below, and help us keep this incredible event running!
