Meet the Baker

I’ve been lucky enough to have a few more followers on my social media pages recently and so I thought it would be a good time to introduce myself, and show you all the face behind Cornish Cakey Tea.

I’m Sam and you can find me baking up a storm most days at my home bakery based in Redruth, Cornwall. Proud to be a Cornish girl, I was born and raised in beautiful Cornwall and brought up making traditional homemade bakes, Hevva Cake and Cream Teas to name a few, in our Cornish family kitchen. We’d all gather around the kitchen table, my mum would place a teapot, steaming hot, on the table and we’d all share a homemade cake, lemon drizzle, victoria sponges and the richest chocolate cakes you ever did see. Many birthdays, special occasions and ‘just because’ days were celebrated this way, with a ‘Cakey Tea’. And so, when I launched my business, Cornish Cakey Tea was the obvious nostalgic name for me.

I love feeding people, that’s always been a fact, but it took me many years to have the confidence to start my own foody business. Around three years ago, I decided to take the plunge into the scary world of starting, running and growing my own business and juggling the not-small task of being a mum to a very energetic little boy. I haven’t looked back. I loved every second and it’s not a popular thing to admit, but I'm damn proud of myself and everything I've achieved so far. As lots of small startups often are, it’s a real family affair and none of it would be possible without the husband who can turn his hand to anything. He’s kneaded dough, hand built multiple cake stands, put up gazebos in gale force winds, donned a pinny on more than one occasion and built me my very own little bakery in our garage.

So, where can you find us? Throughout the warmer months you can come and say Hi at local farmers markets, craft fairs and annual events where we will be popping up with an array of homemade delights from cakes to quiches and scotch eggs to sausage rolls. I also make special occasion buttercream cakes for birthdays, weddings and everything in-between. You can also find my bakes in lots of lovely local cafes and shops who stock my cakes and bakes.

My year was rounded off perfectly with a Christmas Feast Afternoon Tea at this fabulous Wedding of Ryan and Jem.

As you can see Katie Goff Wedding Photography has really captured the magic of the whole day in these stunning shots and Scorrier House provided the most enchanting setting for Ryan and Jem's gorgeous festive wedding day!

Congratulations to the happy couple and thank you for asking me to cater your magical wedding celebration.

Thank you thank you thank you to all you lovely lot that supported the Christmas Market in Illogan Parish Council Community Hall yesterday! We were blown away by the volume of people that came and how lovely and friendly you Illogan lot are! (Obviously, I include myself in that statement 😆)

Wow, what a day. I don't think any of us expected that, especially not me. Thank you so much to everyone who came out to support us and our new little market in Illogan. We all had an amazing day!

Thank you also to the Illogan Sparnon Brass band for being our Christmassy market soundtrack.

It's the start of a very exciting new market tomorrow (Sunday 1st Dec) in the village of Illogan. The market will be full of local artists, bakers, makers and talented crafters so pop into say hello at the Illogan Parish Council Community Hall which is next to the playing field, play park and where the rugby ground is.

We are very lucky to have Illogan Sparnon Silver Band joining us for some carols from 1pm which will be lovely and festive 🎄🎁⭐

Illogan is home turf for Cornish Cakey Tea so it would mean the world to see some friendly local faces. Please pop into support 🙏🙂

It's our Hayle Monthly Food & Craft Market CHRISTMAS event 🎄 and our last of 2024!!

I'm so happy to be a part of this wonderful market that is growing and thriving!
