We made a start to Harvest today, it’s never the most satisfying dodging showers and changing plans on the first day but that’s farming 🤦🏻

We have a vacancy for a Rural Estate Administrator to join our small, close knit team on the Berkshire/Oxfordshire border.

Harvest 2023
We are looking for a Harvest help to join our small team in West Berkshire
Somebody 18yr + with a clean driving licence and preferably a Telehandler certificate, although training can be arranged, somebody enthusiastic and who has good attention to detail and is willing to work to a high standard.
We run modern NH and JCB machinery and a modern underfloor drying grainstore.
Tasks will be mainly grain carting, grainstore work - being confident with a Telehandler heaping up grain with a pusher is a plus, some cultivations and rolling and assisting with our Woodchip biomass business
Some general estate maintenance will be required in quieter times.
July start, flexible end date in September

A stay in one of our 2 self-contained cabins just outside Brightwalton would make a perfect Christmas gift or is ideal for family members wanting to visit over the festive period.
Both accommodations are hidden away in their own enclosed section of our beautiful walled garden making it the perfect location to rest, relax and switch off from the outside world. They are both well equipped, with wifi, TV, cooking essentials and Kingsize bed. The outdoor areas are a must see and ideal for enjoying the sun in the warmer months or cosying up around the fire pit in the winter. Being fully enclosed the garden is ideal for dogs who will also appreciate being in close proximity to the amazing walking and cycling routes the area has to offer

We have been trying out this cut and collect mower today to remove the growth from some Countryside stewardship flower rich margins
This should improve the quality of the flowers next year 🌻🌸🐝🦉
The mower is owned by a neighbouring farmer who received funding from North Wessex Downs AONB to make it available to Farmers in our newly formed Farm Wildlife Cluster group
Keep your eyes peeled for some Farmer and Public events from the Wessex Downland group next year

And that’s Harvest ‘22 over ☀️☀️🌾🌾
A great effort from the team which finished as it started with plenty of early morning starts to beat the heat and dry crop conditions and a non stop run through all the cereals which is exceptional
Really good yields and quality and a finish 2 weeks earlier than last year!!
But most important, everyone stayed safe and avoided any fires which have been all too familiar this year

So sad to find this fly tipping on the estate today, however we do have the details of the Lambourn Close end resident who dumped it.
Maybe they could clear this up and dispose of it legally before we report it to the Police tomorrow 🤞

Not only do we host wonderful events we are a hard working farm. This wheat is grown for seed on behalf of DSV UK so other farmers can use it to grow milling wheat next year

A new enterprise for us this year, Haylage and Hay for Horses, the grass fields will now be left to set seed to feed wild birds over the winter under our Countryside Stewardship Scheme
We couldn’t have had better weather for our first attempt ☀️☀️☀️and have hopefully made some good quality feed
