The funeral business, like many businesses, is ever evolving and changing but no matter, this significant milestone in yours or your loved ones life has to be arranged in just the way you choose to...but always respectful and gentle for all involved. As an independent Celebrant, I am privileged to work alongside and see, first hand, the unconditional care and guidance, the great dignity and respect Allen & Son show to their families and indeed, the local community.... this is not only a wonderful family business, this is absolute dedication, commitment and a true vocation in life...

We have been reflecting this week on what sets us apart from others businesses offering unattended "direct" cremations.

We look after your loved from the moment we collect them into our care, where they remain until the day that James personally accompanies them into the crematorium chapel. Some beautiful music is played upon entering the chapel and a moment is taken to pay our respects, ensuring dignity and the utmost care every step of the way.

We will be here to support you throughout this difficult time and will do all we can to help bring a little comfort, for example, dress your loved one in their own clothes if wished, or arrange for you to come sit with them in our peaceful chapel.

Grief is a complex and deeply personal experience, and the idea of “letting go” can be misleading. Many believe that moving on means no longer feeling pain over their loss, but that’s not the case. Here’s why letting go of grief isn’t feasible:

1. **Lifelong Journey**: Grief leaves a lasting mark; over time, its intensity may lessen, but the feelings remain a part of you.

2. **Evolving Emotions**: Grief changes over time. You may feel nostalgia instead of sadness, but this doesn’t mean you’ve completely let go.

3. **Memories Live On**: Our loved ones stay with us in memories. Embracing these keeps them close rather than letting them fade.

4. **Honor Your Feelings**: Letting go implies forgetting. It’s vital to honor your feelings—sadness, anger, or confusion—as part of healing.

5. **Shifting Perspectives**: Instead of letting go, consider how to carry your grief forward, integrating the memories of your loved one into your life positively.

6. **Connection Through Grief**: Sharing your experiences can build community and create deeper connections with others facing similar losses.

7. **Personal Growth**: Grief can inspire personal growth, offering new ways to cope and insights into what truly matters.

Grief cannot be neatly resolved. It is intertwined with the love we have for those we've lost. Rather than trying to let go, we can learn to live with grief, cherish memories, and honor our lasting bonds.

Such a lovely idea and attainable to most...and a thoughtful gift to give someone grieving a loss....

James and I visited the national funeral exhibition a couple of weeks ago, and whilst we were there, we saw these beautiful oak bird houses, which can be personalised to create a lovely tribute to loved ones lost, and treasured for years to come, especially as they service the wildlife too.

We are getting a sample one in soon as the photo doesn't do them justice, and will be able to tell you more about them.

She has been asked by several people to meet and discuss their future funeral plans, wanting their tributes to truly reflect them when the time comes.
