This week the team are onsite in Birmingham for an incredibly exciting but top-secret event. We wish we could say more but our client likes to keep things confidential 🤐

We’ve spent the last few months pulling this event together and revelling in the creative. Then last week we had all hands on deck to finalise some of the personalised gift elements and memorable delegate touchpoints. All we can say is that it promises to be an exciting, inspiring and sophisticatedly stylish experience for everyone involved…

“When you’re searching for inspiration, it never hurts to look inwards…”

Do you know who first said that? We did. Just then 🤣

Last Monday it was time for another simplybetter away day. So, we took to the offices of our brilliant suppliers, Universal Live , for an immersive brand showcase day. The point of the exercise was to reconnect with our team and encouraged them to look back at our varied catalogue of events to see if we could learn anything from what’s come before 💭

Movies were a central theme of the day so, using some of our favourites as a jumping off point, we considered the role storytelling plays in what we do, discussed how we could push the creative boundaries to deliver unique client experiences and championed the importance of simplybetter teamwork.

It was an exciting and enriching day that got all of us inspired about the potential of what we could achieve. Now, we’re excited to see where this inspiration takes us… 💥

Not ones to rest of our ethical laurels, we’re back with more sustainability learnings. Members of our team recently undertook training on ‘Understanding Net Zero’, with the brilliant team at Isla - sustainability in events , the event industry’s sustainability body.

The course was invaluable in helping us to understand what net-zero was all about, and the role we play in helping to reduce global emissions. As a framework of global actions which are part of the Paris Agreement, it’s on us all to do what we can to help reduce global temperatures 📉

And here were the big take aways…

1. If the planet heats to over 1.5 °C by 2050, this could lead to an extinction level event.

2. The aim is to reduce greenhouse gases by 50% in 2030 and by 90% in 2050.

3. 26 countries have net-zero laws.

4. 55 countries have net-zero policies in place.

5. 17 countries have made net-zero pledges.

6. The UK has legally committed to net zero by 2050.

While there is still so much the event industry could be doing to reduce waste, simplybetter have made small inroads to help us prevent or offset our emissions where possible. We’re currently rolling out event emission tracking through isla’s TRACE platform. In this first year, we’re creating a baseline on which we can start to build out a more robust net-zero mission with specific reduction targets 📝

In addition, we’ve also signed up to The Climate Pledge which brings together the world’s top companies and unites them around a commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

With clients like Gainsight, we’re always being challenged to go bigger and better. And that’s especially true of their annual CxO EMEA Summit.

We helped them host in June which is an executive retreat for members of the customer success sector, giving them chance to catch up on important issues and discuss the future of the industry. It’s also a relaxed affair that puts a focus on connection and embracing Gainsight’s ethos of ‘childlike joy’.

And this year, they wanted something special. So, we embraced the Ascot location and created an equestrian themed event with actual live ponies. It was a fun activation that put the emphasis on relaxed networking with a difference 🐴

And the response from the client was outstanding:

“It’s been great to be part of another successful CxO EMEA Summit! The positive feedback from our fantastic participants is pouring in and we’re thrilled. This wouldn’t have been possible without our event partners simplybetter.”

And all that was reinforced by the 100% NPS score – with all attendees saying they’d recommend the event to their colleagues. 👏

We’re always excited when someone new joins the simplybetter team, and last week it was the turn of our brilliant new Head of Client Services, Vikki Barcroft 💫

Vikki joins us with 15 years of event experience, living and breathing every element from both client and agency sides, across international and local events and taking in everything from internal comms to marketing. So, we can easily say our clients and team are in safe hands. Vikki is passionate about people and hopes to bring this to our growing Client Services team. With 5 years of management experience, she’s the best person to help us expand our offering and provide that thoughtful, considered service that simplybetter clients have come to expect.

When she’s not in the office, Vikki can be found travelling, attending gigs and eating amazing food (though, she’s not the one cooking it…) She believes in not worrying about things you can’t control, and we can see why that’s a great mantra to have in the events industry… 🙌

Having just completed her first week, Vikki had this to say: “I believe in what simplybetter do. All of it. Did you know we can help you to offset the carbon footprint of your event?

We’ve talked before about how wasteful events can be and how we’re doing all we can to reduce, reuse and recycle as many event assets as possible to become a more sustainable agency ♻

But the truth is, there’s a certain level of emissions that will always be generated by events, and the best way to combat these is to offset them. Thankfully, we now provide a tree-planting service to help clients offset their event emissions. You can now select sustainable projects and initiatives from around the world and support them by planting trees in your very own company forest. 🌳

It’s something we did recently for Reckitt - they approached us to help make their internal The Science Inside Symposium a more sustainable event and, as well as reducing all waste where possible, we helped them create and contribute to their own Reckitt forest.

Not only is it the right thing to do, but it’s a great additional element to bring to an event. You can gift trees to your attendees so they can all have a hand in shaping a better planet. 🎁

It’s true, we have a lot of office dogs, and we mean A LOT. And while it’s not easy defending your lunch from an unsuspecting nosey ninja, we wouldn’t be without them. They provide a fun and calming presence in the office and remind us not to take the stresses of work too seriously. So, thanks pups! What would we do without you? 🥰

We often talk about the simplybetter family, so we thought you might like to get to know them a little better. This week, it’s the turn of our ace Project Manager, Daniella Davis! 🤩

Daniella has been with us for a year and a half now and in that time has brought so much to our Project Delivery team, not least a never-ending supply of positivity. In an industry that can be very fast-paced and frantic, Daniella always has her positive hat on (just one of many) and helps keep everything organised and everyone’s spirits up. Not only that but her background in savvy shopping means that she’s always brilliant at finding exciting opportunities to enhance activations and those last-minute touches that help bring client experiences to life 🤩

Last week, members of the simplybetter team attended an online lecture hosted by Isla - sustainability in events, the event industry’s sustainability body. It was led by the brilliant Emma Grace Bailey from PlasticFree.

It was an illuminating talk on the dangers of plastic pollution and the role the events industry plays in that. With so many fascinating talking points, here were our five biggest takeaways:

🌍 Plastic is greenhouse gas in solid form: If it was classed as a country, it would be the 5th largest emitter in the world.

🌍 Only 9% of all plastic has been recycled. Only 9%. And that include much of the waste we all recycle each week.

🌍 The mass of all plastic produced is double the size of the Earth. That’s a lot.

🌍 Between 2012 and 2022, 731 new plastic pollution policies were created which is a promising start, but there’s still lots to be done.

🌍 The UN and its members are working on a Global Plastics Treaty to reduce harmful chemicals in plastics and phase out the production of single-use plastics. It aims to vastly reduce the production of plastic around the world, and we hope it succeeds!

Thankfully, we’re already implementing loads of new initiatives to help combat our own carbon footprint and those of our clients. Working with Isla, we’re tracking all event emissions through their TRACE platform, doing what we can to reduce, reuse and recycle all assets. We’re also providing a range of offsetting options to our clients such a tree planting and supporting sustainable initiatives. And in our day-to-day work, we continue to work with suppliers who share our sustainability goals and have implemented dedicated recycling bins in the office and separate waste onsite wherever possible.

While we realise there’s still a long way to go, we’re proud to be doing what we can to make the event industry more sustainable and more responsible ♻

No one likes to talk about money, but some people have no choice. That’s our Nic, and she does a sterling job (that’s a coin joke). It’s up to Nic to ensure that contracts are signed, payments are received, and people are paid on time, and she does it again and again 💫

Running the all-important backroom of simplybetter, Nic ensures that clients, suppliers and colleagues are always happy by crunching the numbers and sorting the spreadsheets. It’s Nic we need to thank for allowing our Project and Creative teams to continue providing the very best offering for our clients, while also delivering a seamless and crucial service herself.

We’re in a wistful mood, thinking about this week’s , and our work with team Shark Beauty to deliver a disruptive brand activation at Lollapalooza in Berlin back in 2023.

The client tasked us with taking over the music festival and boosting their brand awareness with the aim of ‘spreading the love’ with a romantic and youthful activation. They wanted show-stopping designs and lots of unforced interaction with their range of haircare products 🤩

So, we jumped to the challenge and created three experiential zones throughout the festival site. The first comprised of a two-storey container with free styling sessions available to passersby throughout the day, and a top floor meet and greet space for notable influencers. The second site was a unique VIP space for exclusively invited guests who were also treated to free slushies alongside a free hairstyling session. And finally, the third space was allocated as content creator lounge for influencers to do their thing while networking with celebrity stylists.

With a focus less on sales and more on wider brand awareness, it’s fair to say the activation was a success. Location specific hashtags at each site resulted in a significant spike in social activity and the overall activation built a loyal following among brand advocates, cementing SharkBeauty as a desirable brand within their focused demographic 💗

In his first year, Phil has done an incredible job steering events through busy delivery schedules and nurturing our client relationships to ensure communication is always up to date and expectations are met and exceeded to deliver the best projects possible. Well done, Phil 👏

This week saw the second instalment of our Event Partner Days in the simplybetter office. A chance for us to get to know our suppliers a little better and learn more about what they can help us bring to our clients.

These two days have proved invaluable in strengthening our connections and ensuring we’re well equipped with an impressive range of services, tools and technology to help us enhance engagement events, exhibitions and experiences. It’s all very exciting and we’re looking forward to finding ways to work with these partners on upcoming proposals and utilise their vast talent 💥

There’s always so much potential in event planning – the sky’s the limit! And when it comes to SKY MAGIC, it goes even further than that 🌌

Members from our Delivery and Creative teams experienced a real treat last week, as they were invited to preview SkyMagic’s new fleet of indoor drones.

Rachel, our Event Project Director, and Esther, our Production Design Lead, were in the audience for a range of drone light shows delivered by the team there. It was an impressive sight and they loved every minute. A big thank you to the team for asking us along 🙌

On Sunday, members of our brilliant simplybetter team took part in this year’s Bradford Dragon Boat Festival. We were raising money for The Immanuel Project and their brilliant work.

It was a glorious day with lots of exciting activities going on and plenty of food to boot. Our team were called ‘Let Paddle Commence…’ and went into it with fighting spirit. And it's a good job we did as there were 28 teams taking part, not to mention some of them being professional racers, tackling 29 races in total over a 7 hour day. It was a Herculean task but our sb dragons were up to the challenge 🐉

Not only did we win two races - one of them by quite a bit - but we came 8th overall with many hailing our team's first ever dragon boat effort a huge success! But more important than any of that, we managed to raise a whopping £1,160 for the Immanuel Project 🎉

Last week was our simplybetter Summer Social and we went a bit potty…

The team took part in a group pottery session from TYRO Studios at the Dandelion Cafe. It was a perfect opportunity to take a step back from a busy schedule and connect with each other while taking part in something creative 🪄

The event industry can be incredibly busy at the best of times, so it’s important to focus on the wellbeing of our team and ensure people are able to take some time out together. It proved to be a incredibly fun day with some truly inspired (and a few suspect) ceramic creations along with lots of laughter 😆

We invited them in to talk about the services they offer to better understand how they can help us bring an innovative approach to our offering. It was a great chance to get to know them and their work a little better and to cement our working relationships 🤝

The day brought lots of interesting ideas and generated plenty of inspiration for our team. We’re excited to see what comes of it… 💭

Last week our brilliant Account Director, Charli Briggs, visited The Monastery Manchester to attend the M&IT Editors Lunch, hosted by the leading industry publication Meetings and Incentive Travel Magazine.

It was a great chance to explore the iconic venue, meet others from the corporate events world and address some of the hottest topics through their State of the Industry Report. Plus, Charli and the other attendees were treated to a stunning three course lunch. What could be better? 🍴

Rob’s been with us for just under a year but in that time has brought a whole new skillset to our Creative team, supporting them on delivering high quality pitches and proposals. He also provides an additional element of important support to our events, helping craft the delegate comms journey to ensure attendees always feel well informed. And all while being a doting dad to twin daughters and writing very self-congratulatory copy for social media 👏

❓ Did you know that the events industry is responsible for 10% of global CO2 emissions… ❓

It’s a lot.

As much as we love this industry, it’s clear: events are wasteful. So, it’s important that we do our bit to create more sustainable events. Like the one we ran in May…

Our client approached us to create an internal event that had three core objectives:

🌎 Make sustainable choices throughout the event design
🌎 Reduce, reuse and recycle materials where possible
🌎 Identify opportunities to minimise environmental impacts

So, we set about doing that by implementing a range of sustainable measures, including working with a sustainably focused venue in , building reusable assets, utilising energy efficient sets and lighting, arranging coaches to minimise travel emissions, using recyclable serveware and creating an event app and recyclable badges to reduce paper.

Then, we tracked everything through TRACE, an award-winning carbon emissions platform created by isla, the events industry’s sustainability body.

Doing that, allowed us to track all waste and emissions and the results were incredible:

🥇 85.2% of materials were reused, donated or repurposed
🥇 Only 6.4% of the total waste ended up at landfill

And there’s still more we could do. Thankfully, we’re committed to delivering more responsible and sustainable events for our clients and the world.

Best Stand Design & Experience at this year's Euronics UK Showcase 2024 🏆

Now that's an award we can be proud of...

SharkNinja approached us to create an immersive stand for the event and we jumped at the challenge. With only a few weeks to turn our concepts into reality, we created a wrap around stand that brought attendees into the world of SharkNinja and their varied product range.

The trick was finding the balance between a stand that was aesthetically pleasing while also creating an impact experience for delegates that felt both immersive and engaging. And the award would suggest we achieved that in spades!

A huge well done to the whole team - we're excited to see what's next... 🌟

Recently, we helped the brilliant team at Arco: Experts In Safety deliver an inspiring and immersive internal strategy day at Doncaster Racecourse. It took a lot of work to create something that truly engaged their team around the new brand strategy, but it seems as though it’s paid off, as we’ve received glowing feedback. It’s ride oar die at simplybetter…

On Monday some of our team took part in their first Dragon Boat racing lesson. We’re taking part in this year’s Bradford Dragon Boat Race Festival in July to help raise money for our charity partner The Immanuel Project. So, this was the first chance for our team to dip their toes in the water (so to speak, it goes against the rules of dragon boat racing…)
