//RUNNERS// I love creating hand-dyed gauze table runners and the colour and texture they add to a table. You don't always have to follow tradition and use them along the length of the table. In this case, it was placed centrally along the width of the table instead. I loved the autumn colours of this shoot with its warm reds, oranges and yellows, including this beautiful dahlia.

//MIX AND MATCH// I absolutely love creating settings on long tables where you can mix and match a range of items, adding height and colour along the way. Here, I used terrariums, brass candlesticks in different heights, vintage glass bottles and brightly coloured tealights, along with neutral cotton napkins. No runner was needed as the foliage alone looked gorgeous against the bare wood tables.

What can be said in New Year rhymes,
That’s not been said a thousand times?

The new years come, the old years go,
We know we dream, we dream we know.

We rise up laughing with the light,
We lie down weeping with the night.

We hug the world until it stings,
We curse it then and sigh for wings.

We live, we love, we woo, we wed,
We wreathe our prides, we sheet our dead.

We laugh, we weep, we hope, we fear,
And that’s the burden of a year.

Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Christmas was not quite as we intended this year, thanks to Covid restrictions. Instead of a white Christmas in Canada with my Mum and Stepdad (who we haven't see since July 2019) we're spending a quiet day at home.
Thinking of everyone today who can't be with loved ones for whatever reason as well as those who are making the most of being able to spend time together after another difficult year.

//FEATURED// I'm at least a week behind everyone else posting this, but no less exited. A macramé arch request from (who I went to a real life St Trinian's with 🙂) led to me being part of a shoot in Painswick with a fabulous team of suppliers and now we're featured in The English Wedding Blog. •December• Arwen took what few roses remained in the garden (along with half our pergola which we were hoping would survive until next summer) but we’re left with lots of greenery and, fittingly for the month, holly and mistletoe.
I really benefitted from a low-tech, no social media November to reset and recharge but I’m looking forward to sharing a couple of exciting publications that happened last month.

What a beautiful, crisp sunny morning to welcome in November. This is probably the last tiny flourish of colour in the garden for the year, so enjoying it while it lasts.

Love this shot of my macrame backdrop in the last of the summer sun by Cat Stephens Photography featuring Maxine Ward - Celebrant and .modelling. It's so versatile - dress it up with foliage and flowers or keep it simply as it is; use it as a ceremony backdrop or behind a top table, or even both. Not just for boho weddings either 💗

•October•
I’m amazed at how much colour is still in the garden today, mostly thanks to the roses. I have to point out the Japanese anemone which we got from the village horticultural club plant sale and managed to keep alive and the ginkgo biloba which belonged to my Dad and which we thought we’d killed. I’m also really proud of the little green tomato from plants which I grew from seed. We grew them really, really late having bought a reduced price ‘grow your own veg patch’ box of seeds. We now have about 20 plants full of green tomatoes that we’re hoping will survive just a bit longer along with three courgettes we’ve somehow managed to also grow. The lettuces were quite successful and we got quite a few small potatoes but failed with the onions and garlic. Looking forward to trying again next spring.

//Autumn vibes//
Beautiful shades of orange and red for this shoot a couple of weeks ago. The hand dyed runner was a perfect match along with rose gold tealights, brass candlesticks, vintage bottles and colourful candles. The sun was shining, the leaves were falling and you could really feel autumn just around the corner.

September always feels like the start of a new year for me (once a teacher always a teacher!). Although the garden isn’t as colourful there are already plenty of signs of autumn.
I’ve been very quiet over August dealing with a loved one suddenly and unexpectedly in ICU and being ill myself (thankfully not Covid) so I’m actually quite glad to see the month end and start the new month afresh.

My lovely friend .louise.pope got married at the weekend at The Millhouse Hotel having had to postpone from last year.
The macrame hexagon made a lovely ceremony backdrop which was then moved behind the top table for the wedding breakfast. Bottles and tea light holders and our hand-dyed gauze fabric were combined with the bride’s own pieces and pretty garden flowers 💗

//July// Roses galore and they smell divine! I’ve no idea about the varieties as they’ve been in the garden since before we moved in. I think I’m most excited about the fallen apple. This is a different tree to the one who’s apple I posted in June. It’s always been overshadowed by our huge willow and never flowered let alone produced fruit, but since the willow branch snapped last year, it’s suddenly come back to life and now is covered in apples 🍏

It’s been a busy week with two styled shoots but great to be back out in the world meeting new people and seeing supplier friends again.

Here is the first shoot - a beach elopement in a gorgeous little cove just outside of Bristol. It was a perfect, warm afternoon/evening by the water with a great team.

//World Ocean Day//
🌊 About 71% of the earth's surface is covered by ocean.
🌊 At least 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in the ocean every year and make up 80% of all marine debris.
🌊 Plastic pollution is the most widespread problem affecting our oceans. It also threatens food safety and quality, human health, coastal tourism and contributes to climate change.

One of the reasons I don't offer traditional chair covers or sashes is that they are made of polyester, which shed hundreds of thousands of microfibres (some studies say even millions) when they're washed. These microplastics not only end up in our oceans but also our food and water because they are microscopic and don't degrade. More recently, studies have even found microplastics in human placentas.

My fabrics are all made of natural fibres and hand dyed without chemicals and my props are mostly made of glass, metal or wood. I don't use single-use plastics in my business and have switched many of my household/beauty products to plastic-free options. Small changes which I hope, along with everyone else making small changes, lead to a bigger change.

“In early June the world of leaf and blade and flowers explodes, and every sunset is different.” John Steinbeck

I was surprised to find as much colour and variety as I did in the garden, even if it’s mostly weeds and a very sorry looking rose! 🥀
Apples are starting to form, even on a tree we’d given up for dead and there are different grasses everywhere which I love. 🍏 🌾
And to make everything even better the sun is shining too ☀️
