I have more of these flowers I’d love to post out or use for a couple of orders this week….

Would you believe that in the middle of all the wedding mayhem I made time to post out this summery bouquet for a repeat offender? Meant in the kindest way obviously! My aim is to become the florist a family goes to, the trusted person to mark life events and occasions of celebration or sadness. So it really does mean an awful lot when somebody comes back to me and trusts me to deliver for them again 💖

I have some more flowers similar to this so if you’d like a bouquet to order please let me know as I can get them sent tomorrow to arrive Wednesday potentially!

I’m about to take a moment for some self love here. I’m really bloody proud of what I gifted to my friends this weekend. I’m burnt the hell out but I’m over the moon with this. Firstly a florist would usually get help for the flowers alone let alone single handedly styling the venue which was 2 marquees. Secondly finally seeing it all together and the day after hearing so much love for the final venue and all the “quirky little details” was humbling. So many times I made soemthing and thought oh wow I wish someone was here to see this! Can’t thank my good friend and former floristry tutor Exquisite Blooms at Daisy Hill for their unwavering support and time in allowing me to be the side kick in so many of their own weddings. It’s that knowledge that set me in good stead to pull this off!

Single handedly and possibly stupidly, from Wednesday to Sunday none stop including prep, set up and dismantle, with the help of a bit of input from more hands on deck setting up marquee stuff (think directing put this many of this item on this many tables etc!) the final outcome was:
- a bridal bouquet
- 5 buttonholes Inc a groom specific one
- a bridesmaid flower crown
- a fresh flower bridal hair comb
- a hat box for the groom to carry down aisle in memory of bride’s dad
- a massive top table centre piece
- 8 table vases
- 4 urn pedestal arrangements
- decorating/styling the venue of 2 marquees

In typical NFP zero waste fashion, the next day I repurposed some of the pedestal and table flowers to create 4 gift bouquets and a few posies for family and the venue host, as well as the little girls.

The extra details? The 5th bouquet was for the bride’s dad and was pinned to her bouquet to walk down the aisle with her. Then she pushed and placed it onto her dad’s seat with the hatbox wearing his tie. The hatbox was placed in her dad’s reserved seat and carried to the venue and placed there too. The hatbox was made using All compostable materials so that this could then be placed on his grave after the event. The flowers in bride’s flower comb were designed to dry so she could keep it after. The flowers being repurposed to reduce waste. The bucket of spare flowers being gifted to the bride to arrange at home to continue the good vibes for a bit longer. The boys’ button holes matched their suit colours, the best man and groom buttonhole colours had ribbons to match the orange theme. Hiring the plants and props reduced costs and waste for the couple. Using ribbons in lengths for the chairs which are then reused for my own bouquet orders. That’s just some of the details an autistic adhd florist brings to an event like this.

Can’t thank the extra hands on deck which may have including directing the occasional child to place this many item here or there, tying 64 bows and a friend tying them all to chairs, and although in a feminist I may have capitalised big strong men to fill buckets of water 😂

Thanks so much to Lianne and Scott for appreciating the gift of 5 days of time for their wedding. I couldn’t afford a gift of money, but saving them a lot of money on florists and venue stylists I hope equated. She trusted me to have free reign on style and trusted she’d like whatever I made for her which is my dream of a bride!!! I didn’t have funds to have another florist involved so I did have to do an all nighter to decorate the venue 😂 Overall first event solo really surprised me that I can do this. It also reminded me that if I can make a living from this somehow I’d love nothing more than to be a florist and event stylist for a vocation. Looking to approach some marquee hire companies and tipi companies to partner as a florist of event stylist. I need to use these props more often hahaha. On a final note? Tetris master champion status defended, after packing that many buckets of flowers, vases, props, urns and details into my little Peugeot Expert 😂😂😂

If you know anybody looking for a florist or venue/event stylist please consider recommending me as it’s the only way I can grow this little a acorn into an oak tree that will sustain a living and spread more magic. I’m reasonably priced and will always work within budgets and surprise you, aiming to exceed expectations bringing those details to your event!

I can’t bloody believe I just made that!!!!! The donkey ride and fruit of the loom (bride and groom!) have seen it but the rest will remain a surprise until they see it all tomorrow. Lots of gorgeous British blooms and a few special bits from Europe. Lots of hand picked flowers with no miles, foliage from their garden and mine.

Sometimes I realise how magical it is having a neuroferal brain. Between the out of the box adhd thinking that gives the creative solutions and the intricate level of detail my autistic brain sees the world in, there’s a joy to be found. Whilst it can be frankly hell at times with loneliness, isolation and frustration living with it, I sometimes stop and realise like it’s the first time knowing that not everybody sees those intricate details that my brain does. It allows me to see things differently. Texture, pattern, shape, colours in so so many shades tints tones and hues. And for that I’m so fu***ng grateful. That I get to exoerience seeing the world the way I do. Because it truly is joyful, knowing that through all of the heartache and hassle that it causes, my brain allows me to make some magic happen, to make a friend’s special day just a little bit whimsical and magical. Whilst my marriage(s!) didn’t work out, I love seeing others love stories and weddings come to fruition. i adore seeing old love, that has stood the test of time, that never never gave up when it needed us to be selfless or make sacrifices just for the name of love and because we love so deeply. This is what I get to work with!!!! I get to see all of these beautiful shapes and create a whole vision into reality!!!! My wedding gift to my friends this weekend is floristry. From tables, to buttonholes, pedestals to bridal bouquet. I wish for nothing but the most magical day for Scott and Lianne. It’s been a bloody long time coming after all!!!

Lots of English grown, no foam and eco conscious. Because love doesn’t mean profit before principles. I made a small budget for flowers stretch a verrrry long way and I cannot WAIT to fo**le flowers all day tomorrow!!!! Giddy!

The most precious and valuable gift you can give somebody? Your time. This weekend my friends Scott and Lianne finally get their arses into gear after two whole leap years since they got engaged and this weekend they say I do, becoming Boy Church and Girl Church!!! I pledged as soon as I started floristry and they finally set their date that I’d gift them floristry for their wedding. The rough idea was blue and orange and after seeing her dress, and messages about what word she’d give out of a few ideas…. I refined the style down to a touch of boho blues and oranges, I spent all day today conditioning and preparing dozens and dozens of Roses, foliage, floofy whimsical s**t like grasses. And then I just had to see what some of the chosen blooms and materials looked like together to show my pal her colour pallette for her bouquet. Orange and blue is a real ask of a task and could easily be very dated. But seeing her dress, it needs to be floaty whimsical and colourful but with texture that doesn’t over power anything else. But the tables? Yeah they get Beer cans with succulents and cacti in them for the groom, a fellow beer lover 😂 They’ll match the blues and oranges of the table flowers. I’m honestly so so excited and terrified in equal measure to finally be flying the nest and no longer being the wingman to others’ wedding floristry. I’ve done many weddings helping my florist friend but this is just little old chaos demon me out their in the wilderness. Pray for jayden people. Pray for jayden 😂

What a joy this was to be involved with! I’m really lucky to be able to help with weddings for my own portfolio experience, but next week I’ll be flying solo for my friend’s wedding. My tutor has helped me over the last academic year involving me in wedding work, allowing me free reign creativity, to build my experience and it’s been great to have a friend in flowers and life generally. I am available for weddings and events with my first solo next week and have one booked in for May. I’ve not taken on my own big events yet as I’ve wanted to be confident in my ability to price, as well as able to demonstrate a portfolio of work showing versatility, creativity, and flair. I’m beyond grateful that I’ve had such chances to do this. I’ve helped with quite a few weddings now, am a qualified florist and specialise in sustainability and eco friendly Floristry with in depth of knowledge of flower seasons and places to source the best blooms. If you’d like to talk to me, feel free to slide into my DMs. My style is versatile, from wild rustic rural, to tropical, from woodland forest or boho pastels, to a rainbow riot.

In this event I created the button holes, flower wands, several bridesmaid bouquets and the table flowers organised into bunches for arrangement by the bride.

Still coming down from the clouds after my college graduation ceremony for my floristry diploma yesterday! Not only did I collect my diploma but I was awarded overall student of the year!! I’ve included my tutor’s words as I had a little cry when they were read out! Betsy is very pleased with her award which is obviously hers now 😂 I haven’t really the words to sum up my gratitude for the massive blessing that is my tutor Exquisite Blooms Sarah Dale! Not only has she helped piece me back together, she’s laughed with me, cried with me and helped me on a healing journey! It was so lush to have my mum and godmum there too.

The task? A “floral cake”
What my brain heard? Let’s make a literal cake but on an acid trip, oh and with candles, oh and let’s make it look like it has fireworks for celebration, oh and 3 tiers! Oh and obviously with NO FOAM! This lot here? 100% English grown (excluding the chrysanthemums which were left overs from college which had been. Credited due to crap quality), literally zero transport miles! About 300m on foot 😍 Spirea, insidious amounts of yellow yarrow (I’m obsessed), a dried alium seed head sprayed fuschia, and those pink centaura 🤤

After completing assessments Monday and struggling yesterday I eventually got in. After getting in at lunch and completing the Tuesday task of a “floral cake” I stayed a bit later for the evening class to make up for time where the task was to “create a design based on a city”

I chose Mexico and May 5th, day of the dead celebration theme inspired my design. Loved taking what is seen as an old fashioned flower of a gladioli and mixing it with the leftover gerbera and roses from the fridge and then really ramping it up with all English grown hand picked flowers including; spirea, yarrow, alstroemerias, Geum, pheasant flowers, alchemellia mollis, cow parsley, piscaria and salvia. A very classic country cottage staple of cow parsley, often seen as a w**d, with the “old fashioned” gladioli, and colour clashes really provides a visual treat!!!! Well it did for me and this design was for me. I love Mexican inspired flowers and have wants to do a Dias de La mu***os inspired design for a long time!

Foam free, sisal support and basalt based floral fibre in a reuseable plastic tray. The head is polystyrene but with some added spray paint! No alternative was available for that, or at least that I could create in time!

Yesterday I completed my final assessment stage for my Floristry diploma. THREE assessments in one day! DISTINCTIONS!!!! For all 3! I have the small matter of completing the coursework part but that’s a full house of distinctions for all assessments and I have to say it’s been bloody hard. I’ve not always managed to get into college and I’m sat now trying my best to wake myself up after waking multiple times in the night having actual panic attacks. That’s a spicy new development hey?! I’ve managed to turn up and catch up with tasks in the face of so many hurdles. It goes to show how therapeutic flowers can be for mental health. I’m hoping to continue into a level 3 course next year if it runs, alongside a horticulture course. Watch this space. Before then I have a wedding in July for my pal and some paper flowers to make for another wedding!

Tasks completed yesterday:
- wired Gypsophila circlet
- a wired buttonhole
- a glued broach

After a couple of rough weeks today I was back to college! Back to bridal work for my final module before impending final assesment!!! Todays task was primarily a bridal bouquet and a glued floral broach. Limited flowers in college I reverse engineered my colour scheme knowing there were some pinks and yellows. Ironically in the end, I used only 6 stems from the whole sale order and they were last week’s flowers! 4 gerbera mini and 2 carnations. Everything else is 100% British, with lots of textures.

A rustic country cottage feel with a contemporary twist on colours. Pretty proud of this one and again hoping to show my versatility isn’t bound by materials!

Oh and as we begin to add peonies and sweet Williams to our dearly departed seasonal flowers for the year…. Let’s welcome in my Current seasonal floral obsessions:
- Astrantia
- Scabious
- Bistorta (two varieties I particular!)
- Phlomis (Jerusalem sage)

That switch in seasons from those spring blues, yellows and purples to the warmer season with hot pinks, limes, oranges and yellows…..oh so dreamy!

Trigger warning: graphic car accident and my cat.

lost my beautiful baby boy on Tuesday. As I arrived to college I had 8 missed calls to get to the vets as he’d been found by somebody in tbe village and he wasn’t in a good way. Nothing could have prepared me for the sight I would be met with. I had to ask if there was anything that could be done, but I knew immediately he was dying when I got there. He’d have to lose both his beautiful eyes as one had ruptured and one was out of its socket. He had the most beautiful eyes. He spoke to me just looking at me. I’m a huge cat lover but this boy was called Sibê which is Kurdish for tomorrow. He came into my life a few weeks after a su***de attempt. He was born mid June and had been found stray, been taken from his mum to early and abandoned. He was part feral and hissed the first time I met him, just after I’d chosen a fluffy tiny kitten to join my family. But after a couple of minutes his chin was on my hand purring. He needed a chance. I didn’t just need a cat but he told me he needed me and a chance for love and to see the world. He was my best friend and he understood me. He saved me life literally intercepting a plan to end my life again last May. It was like he’d been here before and we’d met before. There aren’t words. He would get so overwhelmed when he learnt how much he loved a fuss and his tail would go bushy like he didn’t know how to show his appreciation and joy. But I knew him. I spent 20 months with him watching him grow and learn. He’d drink water from my Floristry buckets, eat my roses and aloe Vera plant, he’d bumper car my ankles to let me know when he needed a little love and he’d appear just at the right time. I couldn’t hold him as he was out to sleep instead having to place my hands on him and talk to him to comfort him. I promised my beautiful boy I’d never ever abandon him or let him down. I advocated for him, gave him a life that showed him the world had lvoe to give even if everything scared him and I was rewarded ten fold for the love time and care I poured into him. So when I saw him Tuesday and couldn’t breathe through my tears and distraught heart, it broke me. I wasn’t strong enough just yet to lose him. But able to stand on my two feet again. His favourite was a bunny tail grass and he loved to play with them. So I delivered flowers to the lady who found him Tuesday with them in and yesterday I delivered a hat box like a meadow for Sibê on his last adventure as Joanna met me at the vets in my time of need. I honestly didn’t want to be here anymore lastnight without my partner in crime my little floristry sidekick. Today I’m heading to Lincolnshire when I’m able to get myself together to say goodbye to my uncle Dave as his funeral is tomorrow. Flowers really do articulate so much when words fail me. The hatbox is all British flowers and foliage and there were lots of the daisies, buttercups and cow parsley on the journey he’d have taken to the vets. So I wanted to make a tribute to him. He went to the crematorium yesterday and I’ll have his paw prints some fur and his ashes in a couple of weeks. I haven’t experienced grief like this and I’ve lost humans in my life and animals. With the last two years being so hard with so much to overcome it was the hardest thing to have to do Tuesday. But true to my promise I got there in time and went through a horrifically traumatic experience to be there for him, to comfort him. When somebody gives you so much the least you can do is hold their hand and help them in their final moments of life, to comfort them and provide them with the sound of a voice they knew cared for them. But living without him and reliving those moments is haunting. The price of love is the grief we feel and it’s proportionate to our depth of love.

British flower week. 100% British flowers, 100% compostable mechanics, 0% BS. Mini sunflowers available exclusively at Evolve Flowers Ltd

Today’s design inspired by a blue and yellow pallette using English Iris grown hydroponically and mini sunflowers. Gathered buttercups from Ash Tree Farm’s cow field since they won’t eat them! Poppies grow like w**d in all my garden borders and the beautiful blue and yellow flowers of the Colombian potato plant growing in the garden. Wild grasses and grains for extra texture and movement.

Arranged using the Oshun pouch which is home compostable bag containing coconut fibre. It took anything from sturdy fat sunflower stalks to tender AF chives. Let’s see how long this stud fresh!

Decided to take to video to explain some of my chosen eco materials, to dish the dirt on some dirty Floristry secrets and to review a new eco product (oshun pouch) for arrangements, which is the cover photo in this video!. Huge thanks to Evolve Flowers Ltd for sending me the samples to trial! Helen was super kind and sent me a few flower samples too, which I’m using for this week’s tasks to push myself. I was so touched by that, that I offered voluntarily to make a video about it! I am blown away by the quality of British flowers in bloom at the moment but don’t always get to use many due to financial constraints. What a treat!

No.

Ok well I’ma show you anyway 😂 Trying to see what a set of fairy wings made with woven plant material will look like for a floral design competition piece I’m working on. 2 of these and 2 smaller ones for a set of wings for a fairy queen 😍

Today’s delivery…..an eco friendly hat box arrangement. The brief was an arrangement that would require no arranging, so not a bouquet. It also needed to be low maintenance and I know she liked carnations and roses. Now roses can be divas! So I went with several varieties of the dianthus family 🙂 English grown sweet Williams in the main, with a nice scattering of violet carnations, and barburus dianthus (green trick).

The liner was made with compostable plastic, the inner is floral fibre bricks made of a basalt base, completley home compostable. The box is actually one that I saved from landfill, that originally had a gift set in. The cards don’t use plastic picks, instead paper tape and wire stuck in the arrangement. And yes I’m that a**l that the bow is made of raffia and the delivery box closed with paper tape.

Do I need to do all of those things in a world where many just don’t care? Yes. Absolutely I do. Despite not having children I still care about stepping lightly on our beautiful planet, rather than being swayed by the continual hammering it takes from the floristry industry.

A few weeks ago, I had the request for the number 90 that I just posted pics of. On my search for inspiration for eco methods avoiding foam, I got thinking I wonder if traditional letters have been done without foam. I was hoping to see some examples to give me some inspiration for my design but alas, it seems I was out in the wilderness. So when my college task a few weeks ago was an eco design of my chocie, I figured it a great chance to come up with a prototype of my idea. There are florists doing eco funeral flowers work, but it’s often the same wreaths, sheafs and similar and of a rustic style. But I wanted to see if it was possible to replicate the traditional design without the plastics. And why aren’t people already doing it?

I quickly found out. It’s ducking hard. For traditional names or words you can buy plastic trays, foam shaped letters, plastic frame stands. But you can’t even buy anything other than a brick shape in Agra wool or other compostable Floristry material. It took two attempts but take 3 I got there! Things that needed to be considered included the crisp shape of the letter, how the material would hold water, which material was best, how to create the letter, how to prevent water dripping everywhere and how much this would cost in comparison to standard mainstream letters.

Having done both now (had to do foam letters for college assesments), I can honestly say you can’t tell the difference. Sure I’d have to create a stand, but I’ve refined all the other issues out. And the costs are pretty reasonable. So I believe these can be made for the same price as regular funeral flowers, without the harm to the planet. L

Some days I hate my brain but today is not one of those. It’s kinda annoying being somebody who cares about the planet when everybody else around you seems to want to use florists foam, plastics and tat just to make life a bit easier or the job faster. So when a friends mum wanted something for a 90th birthday, low maintenance and in the shape of90…..well I knew it would be a challenge with no foam. But as much as it frustrated me coming up with a design, I persisted. Zero foam. Zero plastics. It too shall return to the earth leaving no trace. English sweet Williams and 5 carnations (soz not English). I really love these challenges so of course I said yes. Let’s not do a time wage costing on this one eh?!, as I really did it to further my own abilities. In the process of coming up with this I researched funeral eco letters as I figured there would be some inspiration. Nope. 2 images online and not really what I was looking for. So I took a side quest (thanks adhd!) and on my way to this design I tried two methods so that in the future I could make those. I’ll not give all my secrets away but this was the result of a bit of engineering and some love and care. Didn’t cost a packet and didn’t cost the planet. Everyone’s a winner. Hopefully Flo will be happy with her birthday surprise! The number 90 was to remind her why she had the flowers each day. A beautiful thoughtful gift idea from the sender considerate of her dementia. How bloody awesome was this job to do?!?! I love that creatIce fix for the week. Next task? An 89th birthday gift to require little to no maintenance and no arranging. And my own requirements? No damned foam.

Eco hat box gift coming up next.

Tuesday’s challenge was to make a wreath with test tubes. I’ve woven plenty of wreaths from wood so wanted to go rogue in this one!

I’ve been researching plants and flowers that would be akin to those in the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods and ice age. The latest soecial interest of reading has been “Doggerland” which was the stretch of land connecting the U.K. all the way to Denmark, now underwater after the ice age. Particularly the angiosperm families and eudicot type plants that are native to the U.K.including wildflowers. If that wasn’t challenge enough, let’s make life even more challenging by limiting plant materials to picked and foraged, with the tree fern being the only commercial material used.

And the final challenge? The chandelier frame was hand made, from a piece of tree dragged home almost a year ago. Hand sawed a slice, sanded the under side, then used a drill bit to create the test tube holes, then drilled holes for the strings.

This will be developed further for a competition entry based on ancient lands.

Creativity always helps my head. So I figured I’d do soemthing a little just for me today. I have these flowers to examine for paper models I’m making. So I decided they needed a specific stand for minimal designs. Whipped out the drill, and a bit of wood I had lying around and yes I do indeed own a box of glass test tubes. No plastic for me thanks. And hey presto a quick linear design with rhythm incorporated by varying heights of the flowers, cheeky little complimentary colour scheme, horizontal and vertical line, and space a plenty with a focus on negative space. Harmony between lines and shapes and a nice way to display my own flowers!

Todays episode of Jayden farts around with flowers. More wedding work. Today was a glued floral head band and a hair comb. My attention to detail favoured me well I think on this, even if it did take ages to wrap the head band in ribbon first! Head band I opted for a whimsical Mexicana forest vibe, with the hair comb full blown colour clash and tropical feel. Not too shabby considering the limitations to college flowers. That’s where a keen eye for colour picking a few bits from the grounds comes in helpful. H**e foliage for pastel whimsical green and Euonymus for popping lime green leaves.

When a flower frequenter asks me to make a bouquet for a person whose favourite flower is a peony you won’t see me move as I go at the speed of light in excitement to fetch one of my favourite blooms! The growing season has been impacted by weather and yields lower than usual. So they’re not cheap and prices will remain so throughout this year. Coral charm are one fo the earliest varieties, with stunning peach, coral and yellow that fade to pink. An Odile peony is super delicate, fluffy and bangs out petal upon petal. And whilst Bernhardts are the most well known peonies, they’re not quite into main season yet, so a pink panther variety adds a punchy cerise pink. Add in some meadowsweet for delicate blossom, a rhodedenron or azalea for extra colour and it’s a stern reminder that I have found the thing that makes my heart sing. I’ve been quieter than usual so have been taking the opportunity to keep an eye out for new materials I’ve not issued yet. Often tropicals, aren’t something I tend to use often due to air miles, but when Dutch celosia came into stock I HAD to have my hands on some! Partly to study so I can create in paper, as well as creating vibrant tropical happy arrangements. Knowledge is power but working hands on with materials helps develop my knowledge and passion for the art of floristry. Azalea flowers really pop in a tropical vibrant bouquet too.

When you choose a small business florist you choose to help keep a person’s dream alive!
