I visited the Norfolk Bluebell Wood and Burial Ground yesterday evening. It’s a stunning space! Beautiful, well kept grounds, a 300 year old bluebell wood, a wonderful eco resting place surrounded by trees and the sound of birdsong. Thank you to @norfolkbluebellwood for hosting such a lovely meeting and your hospitality too and to @obitusvivedia for your presentation on the future of personalised funeral ceremonies. June 8th was the day they said ‘I do, again’! Julie and Doug had a beautiful, personal ceremony surrounded by their loving friends and family exactly 50 years to the day from when they first met! After all of life’s ups and downs they both knew that being together was what mattered the most and, this time, they wanted to celebrate their special day in style. They recommitted to one another knowing, for sure, that this would be for the rest of their lives. Julie got to wear ‘the dress’ - and I know you’ll all agree that she looked elegant, serene, utterly fabulous and absolutely beautiful! All those years ago, Doug knew within weeks of meeting her that Julie was the one, and they married just a few months later. This time around, his proposal was magical and their ceremony unforgettable. Both of them exuded such incredible happiness on their special day. I was so very honoured to be asked to officiate their ceremony and I loved getting to meet them and tell their story. It was a joyful pleasure. My day as a celebrant! No two days are ever the same. I have 2 funerals to officiate for families over the next few days and a family visit too to begin preparing the ceremony for their loved one. I have 3 wedding ceremonies this coming month (one as a guest) and I’m also in the middle of finalising more wedding ceremonies for this summer and beyond! I need to make sure I’ve got my outfits sorted (and, after our holiday, see if I can fit into them!!) Where do you keep your memories? For me, I don’t have photos of lost loved ones on display - probably because I don’t like to be reminded constantly of their loss. I know they’ve gone - and I have lots of photos - but I enjoy looking at them at different times when I’m happy to look through them. These pictures, however, are constant reminders and they’re all over the house. My dad’s paintings and drawings - he was a talented artist - and my mum’s beautiful gift of a stitched family tree. A mother’s tree highlighting the names lost to history. I love them and they remind me of their legacy too. I’m not a painter but I love crafting and making things - they’ve passed on that love of creating! It’s maybe why I also love creating stories for the couples and families I work with.
