Irvine Harbour area from the air.
I took photo this a few years back.
I reckon the area where the old metal works used to be would be a great place for a theatre / event space.
The area bewteen the river and the railtrack on the west side of the railway.
This photo is looking North.
Before the now long gone metal works was there it was Irvine shipyard.
Possibly even some WW2 landing craft were made here?
(Can any local historians verify this?)
Great views and outlook, plenty of parking.
Brownfield site.
Good connectivity.
Vacant for over a decade.
When the Magnum was demolished the town of Irvine (pop about 40k) lost its 311 seat theatre and 1800 cap concert venue and it was never replaced.
Its about time the people of Irvine had a new arts and events space considering the size of the town (ever increasing), the obvious demand (see Freckfest shows), the huge boost to local morale and the positive impact it would have on the local economy.
A good model would be something like the Beacon in Greenock or something even more ambitious.
Come on NAC - how about it ?

FRECKFEST shows coming up later this year.
With many more in the pipeline.

Freckfest is Ayrshire's most active music promoter having just completed its 184th show with another sold out concert at the HAC - CAEZAR.

Freckfest promotes national well known acts AND local new acts usually in the format Main act + Support act bringing great live music performances to Ayrshire but also giving new acts a chance in front of an appreciative audience.

It also brings work to musicians and technical crew as well as keeping venues active and bringing in visitors to the area to attend performances at a number of venues in Ayrshire.

Freckfest is a charity and most of the regular team are local volunteers.

As well as entertainment Freckfest also has a positive impact on the local economy with many event attendees and performers using local hotels, restuarants and B&Bs.

Irvine used to have a 1800 capacity concert venue and a 310 capacity excellent little theatre that were both demolished a few years ago and unfortunately never replaced.

Freckfest shows, at the HAC in particular, almost always sell out and Irvine is a big enough town of around 40000 people. It really does need a bigger arts & entertainments venue.

A bigger venue would make shows much more financially viable and sustainable in the long term.
