Busy , busy, BUSY weekend of work, what with markets and private events and all 🤸‍♂️

A little lunchtime break with Mr P at allowing us to reminisce about glory days of backpacking and squatting on plastic stools and being able to have a conversation without 47291 questions 😂

The tofu rice plate is pretty awesome as well 💃

Dad's parting gift to me; some really, really good PR 🥰

Thanks to the Newletter for hanging out in the Little Pink Kitchen and chatting to me about travel, tasty food and my cookbook dreams.

Bittersweet, but I really hope that I'm doing him proud 🥹

LOL at early January me, who thought sharing our Sunday brunches would be a good idea 😂

Nothing is a good idea with a hungry toddler around.

Except these. Cinnamon swirl pancakes, cream cheese dip, crispy bacon 🥓

Might even make them for a breakfast club soon 🥞

1. On Tuesday this week, I tripped over the dog and my phone screen went black. After my social media detox over Christmas I thought this would be a BLESSING and AMAZING and that I might just go back to a 3310 after, but it turns out I use my phone for eeeeeevvvvvveeeeeerrrryyyyyyything. Like it all. Including, but not limited to: my pancreas, our house shopping list, my money, my random ideas for menus, my beloved podcasts and how to drive pretty much anywhere. Also I have gone from having 7 pictures last week to pretty much none, so here is my dinner (a mushroom, kale, mustard and walnut pizza).

2. Anyway, Mr P heard about my fate and put teabags in two cups. By the time the tea was ready, he had been to a friend's house and acquired a 'hot spare' and now I'm not so sure that my husband is indeed a software engineer and instead I have my suspicions that he is some kind of spy.

3. I just had a look out the window to see if there are any unmarked vehicles on the street that might betray his alternative career but everyone has parked on the street because of the Big Weather. Mr P's spy status TBC.

4. I really, really hope that you are OK what with the Big Weather and all. We have been lucky, and my thoughts are with everybody without power but with an unwanted new recycling bin.

5. Happy Friday! Still fighting the good fight with Dry January over here. Might go mad and have a fizzy water.

1. Here are five random thoughts from my week. I hope they find you well.
2. I tried a choir this week. I thought enforced dancing would have me cringing from the inside out, but it turns out that I actually quite like it? Especially when there is a 'woah-oh' involved, and I can pretend that I am in Sister Act and not a school assembly hall in the suburbs.
3. This is the most random thing I will ever type into this web-based application. Still, I have a pile of reusable nappies if anybody should want them. DM me! They are Totsbots bamboozles, and we have used them pretty much full-time since the toddler was 8 weeks old. I love them so much, so if you fancy trying a few, please DM me. They have been strip-washed as per the nappy lady's instructions. There are 20 nappies, 14 of which were bought brand new, and the majority are still in excellent condition. This has been perfect for us with a wash every other day and drying them without a tumble dryer. The wraps are starting to fail a bit (four of the five we bought at the start have lasted the entire time we have been using them). Still, I'm happy to pass a couple of those on if you want to try them out for size/use them as swim nappies. I didn't realise it was possible to love nappies, but we both loved them. It is one of the things that makes me quite sad about not having number two, so I want them to be used and loved and save some plastic from landfill.
4. I'll shut up about nappies now. I am so sorry that I don't have anything more exciting to talk about. It's probably the fact that I am doing sodding dry sodding January. And here I am, being the cliche who is talking about it. I may need to find another hobby. As well as the choir. What else involves enforced dancing?
5. It is a cup of tea for me this weekend. Despite the fantastic skin, reduced crisp consumption, and sleeping like a teenager (because we all know babies don't necessarily love to sleep), I am SO looking forward to that first Friday in February when I can have a lovely glass of wine. Think how good the woah-oh-ohs will be.

So what is this 'breakfast club'?

💫 It is breakfast in my house. Don't worry; you will find out the exact address when you book.

🥂 Everything starts at 11am with a glass of something fizzy, then followed by two courses of deliciousness and as much tea or coffee as Mr P can foist on you. And I am enough of a hippy for there to be quite a few options on the tea front 😂

🥞 Tickets available on my website right now and some dates are selling like actual hotcakes already. Which might encourage me to, you know, make some hotcakes 🥞

🤸‍♀️ See some of you soon 💃

Hello! It's been a while, and there are many new faces around here, so I decided to reintroduce myself. Or something.

💃I'm Sarah, and I live in East Belfast with the long-suffering Mr P, a tiny dictator of a toddler, and our aging dog, Sid the beagle.

🩷 My kitchen is indeed pink, and the pink fridge is my pride and joy—even if it probably needs a little New Year's spruce-up. I know fermented foods are supposed to be good for us and all, but there are a few jars in there that might be pushing it a bit.

👩‍💻 The Little Pink Kitchen's business started in the most millennial of ways: with a blog. The first recipe I posted was for leek and potato soup, and it involved a lot of copying photos from Flickr and other things.

🥂 In 2014, I started the Little Pink Breakfast Club, Northern Ireland's longest-running pop-up restaurant experience, which is mad. It started with my friends and family squeezing into our Sydenham semi, sipping fizz, and enjoying a two-course brunch.

🚂Travel is my favourite, mostly because I love to eat. So, a lot of what I cook involves delicious things I have eaten around the world and at home. There is so much room on my table for both.

🤸‍♀️The end of 2024 was a doozy, quite frankly. The day I can sum that up with ease will be momentous, so I'm not even going to try. My job this year is to build this little pink business of mine back up again, no matter how slowly. So, I'm starting right back where I started with Little Pink Breakfast Clubs.

💫 The dates and tickets are on my website (littlepinkkitchen.co.uk) for the whole year, so why not buy one for you and your mate or your ma or your ma who is your mate? I'll see you really soon.

✨It's been a hot minute since I had my favourite brunch, in my favourite place, with a Really Good Coffee.

Huevos rotos at bringing me back to some very happy, simpler times after busy breakfast clubs and before busy event catering and everything in between.

Maybe, just maybe, helping to bring me forward to some of those places too ✨

Firstly, thank you again to everybody for being so utterly lovely. I actually think I love you all ❤️

Secondly, I am absolutely not pretending everything is A-OK, but just letting you all know that I'll be at the this coming Saturday 💃

You'll be able to buy tubs of my butter masala sauce so you can make butter chicken at home, along with a couple of other cooking sauces, including the only one I am craving at the minute 😜

I'm terrified, I'm excited, I will probably have packaging with a million typos but I really hope to see some of you there 🤞

It is over.

The body was cremated today, a short family affair that felt right after such a public show yesterday. Both were right, both were needed, both will be held close to us all in times to come.

Thank you all, so much, for all your love and support. Thank you for so, so many kind words. Thank you, most of all, for being so generous with your memories. From serving dad in a supermarket to getting advice as a young journalist, I have loved hearing every single one of these stories, and I will treasure them forever.

Ken Reid, UTV live, my Dad. What an utterly brilliant man 🤍

Work scoops.
The news kind.
The Big News kind.
The ceasefires and the agreements and the Big News in the Big House on the Big Hill.
All of these falling apart.
Then being put back together again.
Work scoops.
The flicking through wee black books to find the contact. That contact. Then flicking through it again to find the contact from the other side.
The calls and the driving and the meeting in carparks.
Journalism as it should be.
Work scoops.

Family scoops.
The pints on the sidelines of Ballymena Rugby Club kind, and the Everton football kind, and the cricket at Woodvale kind.
The McGroggan’s ice cream shop kind.
The Duke of York kind and The John Hewitt kind and the Corner bar kind while us three drank weak orange squash and fought over a bag of scampi fries.
Family scoops.
The small news kind.
The small ceasefires and the small agreements and the small news in the small house.
The small house called home.
Family scoops.

Ken Reid, titan of local journalism.

Ken Reid, my dad and Hugo's adoring grandad.

May you rest in peace. I love you so much 🤍🤍🤍
