Almost time for the next Box Energy at Leith Depot. It’s the last one of the year and to celebrate, we’re bringing one of the best…Richie Bisset.

Richie was very active in the mid to late nineties, being one of the founders of Windup a record shop in the Stockbridge area of Edinburgh. Events with the shop saw him playing with the likes of Dan Bell and Claude Young. He was also a resident at the second iteration of Edinburgh’s much loved Soma night.

He’ll be very ably supported by two of our residents Vicki Watsonian (She-Bang Rave Unit) and Chris Scott (Bound).

We are back again... less frequent but not lacking in quality. This time we welcome our good friend and local DJ/ Producer Ryan Wilson. Give It a whirl 👌🏼

Edinburgh based DJ / Producer, Ryan Wilson has been involved in various projects since moving to Edinburgh from the Scottish Borders in 2017

His first project RYOT Music hosted radio shows and many parties around the scottish capital until winding down during COVID.

After experimenting with producing he joined forces with Ryan Cass and released music on Nein Records under the alias LegoHeads.

Now focussing on new music and parties expect more over the coming months.

It's been a minute since we posted a BND Guest Mix. We're delighted to be back in the game with a quality mix from Richie Bisset.

Richie was very active in the mid to late nineties, being one of the founders of Windup a record shop in the Stockbridge area of town. Parenthood saw him step back from playing out at the end of the nineties, but he kept an interest in mixing. A recent move west along the M8 has seen him become more active with mixing again.

Following on from last month’s banger at Leith Depot, we’ve got another cracker of a guest at Box Energy in August. Joining residents She-Bang Rave Unit is Jamie Thomson.

Jamie is a stalwart on the Glasgow scene, his taste spans house, techno, disco, and electro(funk), it's safe to say that he covers all bases in his DJ sets. He's been at it long enough spinning at his own and other club nights for 20 years ending up with his current residency playing upstairs in Max's / La Cheetah and for the people he started with back in the day.. He has shows on both Clyde Built Radio and Radio Buena Vida. if you are not convinced check out his Soundcloud…Mr Basic.

After a slight hiatus, supporting Dombrance and playing at Evil Barron's Weekender we return to our usual programme and introduce Hungarian DJ's and Producers Geopard Tourist to the BND series.

We are Geopard Tourist, our style is inspired by the middle eastern club scene. The culture of electronic music that comes from indie, punk, disco and house to become a refreshing sound of not so agressive but groovy club music that is easy listening and yet easy to dance to as well.

BND Guest Mix 37 - John Parsley

John Parsley is a Swiss artist from Zurich. He discovered his love of music many years ago, as a drummer in rock bands, then later with the first MPC sampler, his fondness of TripHop and electronic music. Today he produces mainly electronic music across the full spectrum. Apart from playing as Dub and Roots Reggae DJ, he has never worked as a DJ. He devotes himself chiefly and continuously to production. With this he is always looking for new ways to lend his feelings expression in music. Sometimes sombre, sometimes trancelike rhythmical but always in his own style. From House to Tribe music, in addition dark TripHop and driven dancefloor killers, he does not let himself be caught up in any one genre. He does what he feels like doing and what he loves doing. With recurring releases on labels such as NEIN, Sulk Magic, Lustpoderosa or Roam Records he proves over and over again that his music convinces, without huge social media presence or his having to move within the night life scene. He feels most at home in understatement. What pleases him most is when he is recognized by his music.

BND Guest Mix 36 - Kindred Sound

Adam and Scott Moore are Edinburgh's go to brothers for all things balearic, funky, and chilled.

Adam and Scott grew up in the shadow of one of Scotland's largest and most industrious towns, Livingston, but their tastes in music are far more aligned with that of the Balearic Islands. Beginning a residency on EHFM in 2020, the Moore brothers quickly made a name for themselves as another great Scottish duo. The Proclaimers? Move over! There's a new pair of brothers on the scene.

Bar set extraordinaries, Kindred Sound have a well curated, expertly crafted bag of records ready to go at any minute. With tastes ranging from new beat and Belgian synth through to downtempo and slow, trance derived house, the pair really are two of the cities most enigmatic and dedicated selectors.

BND Guest Mix 35 - Basic I.D.A.

Currently residing in Madrid, melomaniac DJ and music maker; Juan José Montero aka Basic I.D.A. delivers cosmic techno, with a taste for the breaks and hypnotic vibes. Clearly influenced by styles like post punk, alternative rock & new wave music... Self proclaimed "conscious weirdo", captures the vibe of his electronic journeys well.

On a personal quest for elevated communication from his vision, aimed for inner progress of the human being via electronic music -his passion for electronic music began at the end of the 90's, since then he has not stopped traveling around the globe attending the most underground sessions and clubs of the current electronic scene.

His idea focuses on disrupting the master lines of all deformable spectrograms, thus shaping his characteristic vision of electronic dance music as a means of electronic conveyance.

BND Guest Mix 34 - Fred Berthet

Fred Berthet is this mysterious Frenchman known as DJ STEEF who produced slow & funky downtempo house tracks in the past years. Based in Marseille this quiet but not shy producer has built his way on many different projects since the early 90’s where it all started.
After composing singles with Antoine Boullé under the pseudonym Venus Attack Project (on the label US Guidance), he created the band known as Troublemakers with his friend Lionel Corsini & Arnaud Taillefert. After an over-welcomed first LP ("Doubts & Convictions" on Guidance rec) and well received worldwide, Concecration came on the second one on Blue Note (“Express Way”) pushing The Troublemakers at one of the top electronic band in the French scene.
Fred later on focused his attention on Copyshop project, influenced by the 80’s (Gomma, Toy Tonics, La Dame Noir, Numoment...). Producing now under DJ Steef its was the occasion to synthesize his musical roots such as 80’s electro pop, poisonous disco, classy french influences, insistent downtempo and up warding house. Fred has found in his alter ego DJ Steef the perfect combinasion of incredible fat, slow, funky downtempo house tracks that every body is so crazy about.Its not about fashion but clearly about style & thats why we all love his production stamped BIOMIX, in the shadows, under cover & simply outstanding.

BND Guest Mix 33 - Ravelston

DJ and producer Ravelston, recently relocated to Edinburgh after twelve years on the Bristol scene. He digs from broadly eclectic tastes with a deep fondness for leftfield, cosmic, and psychedelic sounds. Often found idling in the lower tempos, but with a keen determination to start a dance. A heady blend of chuggers and freaky bits, slow-mo house and playful electronica, with plenty bangers when the time is right. He’s got releases out and forthcoming on Paradise Palms records and Natural Position (NL/DE), he is 1/5 of EHFM Mornings team, and can be found playing in clubs and festivals around the country, both from his vast and chaotic record collection and full live sets of his own tunes.

About this mix, he says...I put this together in a fun weekend digging through all the records that had been most prominent in my box over the last year. These tracks are some of my favourite esoteric party jams just now, with afro, cosmic and euphoric vibes amongst a bunch of house, new beat and trance, all on vinyl, all tracks I'm super excited to have dug up. It's a fair bit more banging than a lot of the mixes and radio shows I put out, so maybe my winter hibernation is coming to an end...

BND Guest Mix 32

Howie steps up for the turn of one of our residents to provide a mix for our BND series.

The first solo mix of the year from Howie is littered with slow bassy dubby breaks, and book-ended by different ends of the ambient scale. Including tracks from DJ Python, Pugilist, rRoxymore, Facta, Otix, Burial and even Thom Yorke.

It's that time of the week and we are very excited about this guest..

The hugely talented local DJ and producer Mike Gregor has joined the sonic delight that is the BND mix series.

Mike Gregor aka Exiled from Culture is a Scottish based DJ Producer who has been in the dance scene since 1990, At the age of 18 he was cutting his teeth at North Scottish nights Sweatbox playing along side Carl Cox and Sasha to name a few, before moving into production making tracks at Finiflex as and one half 90s dance act Universal who had a number releases on Red Ant Records all tracks charting in the mix mag update, plays on the essential mix and a Scottish dance chart number 1. After spending a few years working for media tools in London supplying the dance industry with music equipment and building studios, he took time out of music and returning to open Tin Pan Alley studios in fife in 2009 and promoting the beatbox nights. He finally returned to Djing in 2019 with a recent remix for Pete Bones with more music to be released this year.

Guest Mix 29 - Duncan Gray

With nearly three decades of production experience behind him, Duncan Gray can be considered a veteran producer and DJ. His first vinyl label was started in 1997 (Scatolological), he is best known these days for establishing the tici taci label with help from the late great Andrew Weatherall. Tici Taci has more than 100 releases and celebrates it's 10th year as a label this year (2023) with tons of special releases planned throughout the year.

Over the years Duncan has released tracks that have proved widely popular with DJs ranging from the Guv himself through to mainstream crowd pleasers like Boy George. As one half of seminal early 2000's electro band Sons of Slough Duncan played many live shows as well as DJing around Europe and the US, and released records on a wide variety of labels including Skint. In recent times he's played as far abroad as Australia, and has remixed the likes of Red Snapper, Yothu Yindi, and Chicken Lips. He played guitar on a number of remixes by Andrew Weatherall, and regularly contributed guitar and bass parts to a host of producers worldwide.

In recent times he has partnered with Sean Johnston as "Hardway Brothers meet Monkton Uptown" : a mostly dub-based remix project but which has also led to the pair DJing together.
