Back from a beautiful week .festival that’ll live long in the memory. And now ready to sink my teeth into finishing the 2nd half of Sonic Fields.

The vibe is about to shift into festivals of the now and I’m excited for y’all to hear it! Lotta work to do but with so many great stories left to tell, i’m hungry to be diving back in.

Could it be more 👌 conditions for Glastonbury this week? Have a most beautiful time anyone lucky enough to be make it. It's my favourite place in the world.

Instead of being there this year, I'll be putting Episode 5 of the series together from my 2023 Glastonbury adventure.

Half a million rocked up in 1970. TWICE the size Glastonbury has even been.

The biggest music event ever record in Europe. But why has gone down in history as Woodstock's naughty brother?

I met it's co-founder Ray Foulk (along with his brothers) who gave me the remarkable inside story of that year.

Even though the rest of the series is far from complete & I still have a mountain to climb, I’m relieved to reach this first milestone. Episode 3 arrives next week!

I’m proud of just how DIY this series is and how much I’ve pushed myself with the scale of this story.
It’s imperfect but you can only be happy when you’ve given it all you’ve got!

If you get into the series please do pass it onto a friend. I’m an underdog in the podcast realm, with no marketing heft behind me, but word of mouth can be everything! Spread it like a festival rumour. That’s what I leaned from the last series.

About 18 months ago, I paid my mum a visit on her beautiful houseboat Blackbird. I was a bit burned out from finishing are wondering what to do next...

From behind the sofa, I pulled out a box of family photos. Whether it was me as a nipper or my parents in their teens, every other photo seemed to place us in a field, with a stage somewhere in the distance. The festival runs deep in my fam. And I think it does for a lot of us.

Later the day, I opened a book called A Hero For High Times by and with that a new idea fell into my lap. I knew there was an adventure to be had...

June 18th - next Tuesday (!) - you'll be able to hear the story of my last 18 months. A deep dive into British music festivals; their past and their present.

It’s been a proper adventure the last 18 months, zig-zagging across the UK and meeting the dreamers, pioneers, hedonists, activists and fiercely proud freaks that have shaped Britain’s festival story since the late 60’s.
From artist communes in Essex to converted double decker buses in west Wales, I’ve heard tales from over 50 people that hold a special place in this story. It’s opened my mind to the different ways people choose to live their lives. It’s been beautiful, exhausting and a privilege.
I still have a mountain to climb in the editing dungeon, but I’m real excited for you to hear it.

The first ever Pigeons gig was with us a few years ago at Hackney Old Baths. They were a surprise support act for a community orchestra and unsurprisingly for the only time in 6 years; a good chunk of the audience were in their 80s.

It remains one of my favourite gigs we’ve ever done. The crowd was an incredible mix of bemused, enraptured, stunned and appalled as , & blasted their way through the set. Minds were blown & hearings aids were rattled. What a gig.

3 years on and it’s amazing to host them again as they launch their debut record. For me it’s an instant classic and an incredible achievement for the band and especially its architect 🙏

It’s been well over a year since I first heard record ‘Peek-a-boo’ in full. A fair while before it’s release.

I remember it so well. It was immediately and unmistakably my favourite LP of recent years 🥹

I’ve struggled to find the words to capture it’s mood for me, then read online the other day it being described as ‘Twinkling like a glitter-ball in the middle of an abandoned dancefloor’. Goddam - that’s the one.

I’m just excited to feel that strange glitter-ball feeling tonight in its full majesty and celebrate a brilliant record🪩
