"It" is inevitable, so why not get more comfortable talking about "it"! It's not irreverent and it won't bring your own death closer - And though the grief and pain of physical seperation from those we care about, needs to be acknowledged and deeply felt, death itself is an unknown transition - speak of it with lightness and joy xx I'll be at the festival on the day, with my 'mental health first aider' hat on - if you need support or just to talk ❤️

What's the difference between a council registrar marriage & a celebrant wedding ceremony?
Many couples are realising that the legal marriage performed by a registrar may lack a certain magic and uniqueness that they expect for their special ceremony.
Within a celebrant ceremony there are opportunities to add deeply meaningful symbolic rituals which can enhance the occasion and make it truly original. Your wedding can be a mixture of quirky sparkle and traditional or just plain wacky!
Like a fairy Godmother, I can wave a magic wand & make your dream wedding come to life!

Bespoke Wedding and Funeral Ceremonies with historic and natural features.

Despite many cultures having a 'name taboo' after a death, in my experience, the benefit of saying the name of a loved individual who is no longer in the physical world, creates ease, comfort and a sense of shared understanding of grief.
(Interesting blog: Forbidden Utterances, by W.Buckner)

You may want to tell people that you need to have your child acknowledged by others at this time. Family and friends remembering our child with a toast during a festive meal can mean so much. Tell your family members and friends that you’d like to hear your child’s name being spoken or memories shared. People often worry about getting it wrong or making us sadder. We need to let others know what we want, if we feel able to do so.

When we are grieving, it's so hard to be joyful and merry isn't it? The more that kindly people try to 'talk us out' of the pain, the less we feel able to express it. The best medicine is acknowledgement, allow others and ourselves to 'feel' what we want to - it's the quickest way to healing. Here's a great cartoon from Refuge In Grief - good ways to stay true to yourself in the season of goodwill!

Isn't it strange that at Halloween- people are so happy to put coffins & gravestones & skeletons on display in their homes and gardens, yet find it difficult to speak about death and dying when it becomes a reality in life 🤔🫣 this was a lovely Autumnal scene at our local cemetery for a burial of a much loved wife and mum this week 💫

It truly is so amazing to engage all the family in this way, the family and grandchildren worked for over 2 hours to create this beautiful personalised 'chariot' for a unique and loveable individual and consequently there was no fear or anxiety on the day of the service ❤️

Keepsake Memorial Gifts ♡♡
As well as items you can create or use during a ceremony to make it unique, (see blog on my website!) there are so many keepsake gifts and memorial items that you can give away to people attending a service or gathering, here are just a few :
♡Miniature bottles of a favourite tipple
♡Seed ‘Favours’ in pretty envelopes (plant these seeds
in memory of me).
♡Sweeties in a gift bag for a sweety lover.
♡Origami cranes with messages written inside (a custom originating from Japan).
♡Memory tags or ribbons to take away or tied onto a memory tree.
♡Votive candles with a poem to say and light at home.
♡Incense sticks or cones to light and remember them at home.

There will be so many more ideas inside your minds too!
What would you include?

There are countless individuals who work in service to the highest calling, to the benefit of this world. Medical workers, soul midwives, funeral operatives, arrangers and workers of all kinds, celebrants, ministers, bereavement officers, counsellors, educators - to name just a few in my realm of work. These incredible people do what they do, everyday, humbly, often quietly and sometimes unseen. Their service to others is a sacred contract & purpose - they have no need to boast or brag or 'highlight' how special they and their 'work' is. We are all connected, we are one. The love and divinity of which we are all physical manifestations, resonates with each act of these 'everyday angels' - uplifting us all. 💖 deep gratitude and respect.

Wedding Customs
What side should you stand during a wedding ceremony?
With a celebrant wedding, you and your celebrant can create a completely original ‘structure’ to the ceremony, and literally anything goes, especially if, gender wise, we are not conforming to the titles of ‘bride & groom’.
Christian tradition would often have a bride to the left of the groom but this probably comes from patriarchal medieval times when the groom would keep his sword arm free to protect his bride (his property!) from any potential hostile attack or theft! Though it sounds more cheesy to think it was because his heart is on the left, therefore the bride is closer to it. Either way, with a ‘Magical Ceremony’ wedding, you can pick and choose from customs and traditions that suit you, whatever gender you identify as and whether you have a sword arm or not! Please contact me to find out how you can have a truly Magical Wedding.
