Let's talk about shooting campaigns in Black & White,

I have shot quite a few campaigns over the years in B&W and it is something that I really do enjoy. However it's very easy to get caught up in the moody imagery and making sure you do not deviate too much from the brands identity and vision is key.

I will always set my sony a1 to monochrome in the settings before I start the shoot. Shooting in colour then converting in post is a big no no for me. Some colours can reproduce really flat looking when they are processed to B&W. Pinks and oranges are two of the main colours that can look very two-dimensional so being able to see all this in camera in real time when you shoot is always the best way to ensure the image is going to turn out the best.

Also really look at your compositions when shooting in B&W. Look for strong contrasts, textures and even scale. Ensure your subject, landscape and models are adequately lit. Shooting in just greyscale can instantly add all the drama, but it can also produce images that are too dark or over exposed.

Try and steer away from making your imagery look 'cheesy'. I feel this is a really easy pitfall with monochromatic photos. Keep your crops tight and interesting, your vision sharp and fresh. Stay true to your own style and use the desaturation as a way to boost your creativity and steer your imagery ✌ 📸

While love is in the air I thought I would post a little snippet capturing one of the many weddings I have shot. This was for Helen and Dani, a beautiful day in Cheshire.

I often shoot for the whole day right up to the first dance. From hair and makeup with the bridesmaids to getting into the back of the car with the couple to ensure I snap all those personal and unforgettable moments.
